Got in a recent auction mixed lot. Looks old, the colour is of Brown sherry. However what is in the glass in remarkable. Limes intermixed with barley sugar. Sweet and with lovely zingy acidity. Classic mature, sweet Riesling with all the character.

This wine has kept a youthful bright crimson look and a nose of blackberry, white pepper, and a hint of oaky leather that all carries on to the palate. Medium weight and well rounded tannins. Thinking Crozes Hermitage will get you close. It has a few years to go yet so no rush to consume my last bottle. Delightful.

Paarl Vintners Red Wine Tasting 2002 (Windmeul Cellars): (Tasted Blind): Plenty of fruit on the nose with slight toast and complex spices. The palate entry has an abundance of fruit towards super ripe with a rich and intense texture. Substantial mid-palate weight, adding to its overall presence and depth.

Paarl Vintners Red Wine Tasting 2002 (Windmeul Cellars): A rich and inviting nose, abundant with fruit aromas. A well-structured profile gives solidity to the tannin and augments the fruit whilst the wine is long and winding on the finish.

My first GV, under screw cap. Light yellow, apple underlaid with some vegetal note with a hint of lemon and honey. Juicy, elegant nearing to an almost oily texture, good acid balance, good length. No wonder this is a versatile food pairing wine.

Quite pale yellow/green. Floral nose with a touch of citrus and a slight herbal note as well. A little fruit sweet on the palate, but the acid balance is pretty decent. Enjoyable and for £10 the price feels ok.

deep gold to amber edges, the nose has intense ripe fruits with banana, nectarine and oak spices.
Certainly showing evolution but not totally gone, the entry has a crisp acidity, wonderful intensity to the mid-palate, lovely focus and clarity with a mineral-edged strident note. There is nectarine flesh adding richness too the mid-palate, whilst the wine tapers off to a slight fudge note, with wet chalk that keeps it in line and with no almond paste elements. Hgood length and still pretty smart!

{screwcap, 13.5%} Bricking, pale red. Quite developed, with fresh aromas of pastrami, cherry, stalk, and a hint of tobacco. Some brown leaf/compost too. The palate is mature also, light-bodied, with spicy flavours per the nose, high acidity, and only a faint remnant of dusty tannins. About medium length finish - just - but this is fully mature now.

I visited Mahana Estate during 2018 new year days, tasted this at cellar door and left my previous note, then bought a bottle for NZ$70. the estate had gorgeous presentation and a very nice restaurant, in which my family enjoyed a lunch. There are even some large art sculptures on estate hill slopes, very impressive. Sadly the owner closed down Mahana business one year later, with indecent arguments and lawsuit against other investors. A portrait of Dr Schaffaer, the owner and ex las vegas casino mogul, is put on the center of the label, with German historical dressing/costume, and titled 'poet and writer'. it's interesting but unusual on a wine label. however, I understand owner's passion and ambition on wine marking.

Incredible! Lime, fresh grass, sea salt and minerals on the nose. Light kerosene note too. Lime zest, a bit of a green note, many gooseberry, green pear, wet slate and sea salt on the plate. Bone dry, high acidity.

Deep dark reddish-garnet in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & some floral notes, olives, minerals, spices, dark cocoa, herbs & a slight hint of vanilla in the background. Full bodied with a good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, plush, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with spices, herbs, cocoa/coffee, minerals & a slight hint of vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with extended airing & is quite enjoyable in its infancy although it should develop further with additional aging.

Deep garnet red;
Intense bouquet of old leather books, liquorice, stove-top baked blueberries and antique furniture. A little sweet spice in the background.
A soft entry, very sumptuous on the mid-palate with medium acidity, richly textured and filled with dark chocolate, coffee grinds, light spice and dried undergrowth. The tannins have a sinewy, sandy feel and are fully resolved—lovely depth; clear development with a long finish. Relatively full-bodied and working nicely with some density, warmed black fruit compote and graphite linger on the back palate. Showing surprising well given its 15 years of age.

Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with tart, high acidity. The acidity has some nice cut and is refreshing with lemon peels, apples, snow peas, white pepper, pears, and mineral tones.

Overall: This is fresh and classic Gruner. It lacks some depth on the nose and palate, but is quite enjoyable overall.

Deep garnet to the mahogany rim.
Aromas of liquorice, Jubé fruits, blackberry and chocolate.
Full-bodied with developed notes but still holding well. Plenty of weight in the mid-palate with a rich, powdery texture. Bold, yet complex, gutsy with thick, sweet Yorkie bar tannins.

Deep gold. Aromas of butter and popcorn.
Some evolution as expected but still lovely complexity of fruit with a zesty mineral entry, pleasant zing to it, rich texture with some blue cheese and toast characters along with popcorn. Remarkably still holding up despite age. Delicious! (Full disclosure: I made this wine)
