There was more fine sediment than in the prior wines. Initial nose upon decanting was boysenberry that did cool down to blueberry. In the mouth, wine had the same cherry notes with vanilla and mushrooms. Long finish and wonderful balance. Still great! |

7/7/2016 - OenophilistMN Likes this wine: 88 pointsFrom Art's Cellar. This wine was actually bottled by the folks at Pedroncelli. My friend was very late for dinner and thus this wine had an unintentional 3-4 hour decant. Some garnet in the middle of the bowl with amber towards the rim. The nose changed significantly because of the long decant. Initially tart, if not bitter, cherries and some herbs. Over time the nose developed a fruit-infused buttery overtone that was just so interesting to enjoy as I swirled it in the glass. Since dinner was at Ruth's Chris where they broil the steaks in butter, this evolution was very serendipitous. In the mouth, the cherry fruit was bright, with buttered mushrooms and a hint of vanilla. Very long finish. No bitterness. This was the first year's production from the vineyard (which is now closed) and I was not expecting this wine to be so strong at its age. |
