Deep, dark purple in color, with powerful aromas of toasted oak, black cherries, cassis, cocoa powder, and spices. Notes of black cherry compote, blackberries, blueberries, flowing across the palate to a smooth, lengthy finish. Fresh, well balanced, with smooth tannins, this is definitely drinkable now. Well done!

Showing loads of red/black fruit. Currant, blackberry, ripe cherry, and vanilla oak notes.
Full body, med acid, high tannin.
This is a beast! Holding up well and very intense.
Could have told me this was 2015! Needs another 5-10 years to mellow out but it’s still a oleaure to drink now if you’re looking for power.
Napa at its best!

Deep purple, aromas of graphite, oak and dark fruit, and black cherry, chocolate , blackberry, oak and fig on the palate. Long lasting finish. This was wonderful! Lots of fruit, big, silky tannins, rich and robust, full-bodied, decadent! Classic Napa Cab.

Pnp…dark cherry, plum, full bodied. Past it’s prime but was very enjoyable for us as it brought back memories of meeting DR Stephens and sampling this vintage at the 2005 PNV when I was dating my wife. She more than sampled the Moose at that event! We celebrated our 15th anniversary tonight.

Nose: Plum, Cassis, charcoal, oak, esprrsso and Christmas pudding. Very dark. Palate: this has a beautiful cashmere feel and layers of plum, blackberry, cassis, mineral, charred wood, and safe. Excellent length balance and complexity with density, but carefully portioned weight. Finish: long, slow and lingering with plum and crushed rocks.

An excellent 2001 thar embraces the ratcheting richness of its time, but has a dose of restraint that keeps a terroir based beast in the bottle. Excellent.

Pnp. Soft cork extracted very carefully. Port like. Fully integrated and mature. Dark plum, blackberry, wet forest, earth. Past it's peak, subdued verve - yet still enjoyable. Reminded me of a "flat" coke.

This had more restraint and roundness than I was expecting. Silky smooth on the midpalate. You really get that French oak influence. Not sweet and explosive like the Robert Parker bombs, more polished.

Notable hits of grip and energy set off plum and fig notes that are wrapped in a surprising amount of acidity, which work exceptionally well to catapult the additional black cherry, earth, faint tobacco, and spice notes into a compelling launch of animated essences. There too is expected development here in the depth and complexity departments, which does a lot right to present a complete package from initial entry to the surprisingly zippy finish. I was particularly attracted to the overall combination of balanced power and established flavors without sacrificing tension and freshness.

This came off as somewhat of a wise wine with still the gusto to run a half-marathon without seizing up. If you have one of those grandpas that was digging postholes when he was 75 and now at 90 still hunts elk (or more like moose – get it…?) in Kootenai every November, then you may have a sense of what this D.R. Stephens is all about. A great example of how well a Napa Cabernet can perform after nearly twenty years.

Incredible bottle of wine. Drinkable today, but you can hold on for a few more years. BIG BOLD WINE here. dark fruit, and turns into a silky sexy wine.
