2012 Sandhi Wines Chardonnay Sanford & Benedict

I love the '10 and '11 vintages of this wine so excited to try the '12 finally...

Light gold and clear in the glass; Nose is lemon and tart apple but a little shy...in the mouth the acid is definitely sharp (for those that don't like the zing of a good acidic wine don't go here...for those that do like that salivating aftertaste this is your stuff). I like this but I'm still more fond of the '10 and '11. I think at this specific point the acid is a little strong and shielding some of the fruit notes that I expect may come up front with more time in bottle. No worries about it going bad so wait 1-2 years would be my bet.

Complex fruit notes of citrus, apple, and pear. What really stands out is the excellent minerality and acidity. This is more reminiscent of a white Burgundy than a typical Cal Chard.

oaky smells on the nose, spicy plus lemons - elegant and understated
greenish tinge
great tang to this one, more lemons
and then some lovely restrained oak
very long finish
intense and delicious, beautifully-poised and put together
nothing out of place
Puligny-Monrachet the man next to me said.

Liquid Farm / Chard Double Blind- Dallas (Classic Wine Storage- Dallas): Wine #11 in a line up of 15 blind chards (preceded by Wilde Farm Brosseau 2012. The nose of floral, honeysuckle and lemons. More of the same on the palate with the addition of some spice that carries through the medium plus length finish. Very little oak influence. Medium acidity. Really enjoyed this one.

Beautiful aroma of fruits and minerality. Very balanced on the palate, with an onctuous body (but not overly so), with the minerality showing on the finish. Excellent wine.

First bottle after receiving my shipment from Sandhi. Wow. What a great bottle. Same aromas and flavors as before. This is as good as my favorite grand cru Chablis that I have had. Probably my favorite California Chardonnay with the '10 version of this right next to it. Will try a side by side next time. I can't think of a sub $50 Chardonnay I like more. Would love to find others though so will keep hunting.

Same rating but this time I corked half the bottle for 3 days (back in cellar to stay cool) and it was magnificent still. Some of the crisp zingy acidity had receded and the feel of the wine was more silky and smooth but the finish was even better and quite simply still a great chardonnay at a fair price!

Will rate again once they release and get to enjoy bottles of my own... Had this at an event the other night with Rajat Parr and it was outstanding. So wish I had my '10 S&B next to it to compare/contrast the two as that vintage is one of my favorites. Tart white fruits, a little flinty aroma and beautiful laser-like acidity and fantastic finish. In style it is most like a grand cru Chablis. Excellent stuff.

Fairly pale gold-yellow. Nose offers pear, honey, light floral notes and some buttered toast. Great mouth feel with lemony citrus leading the way for a medium-long finish heavy on the mineral/stone side. Simply put, delicious.

Noise crisp pear and floral notes. Light, airy taste. Well balanced. Semi-sweet. My kind of Chard. Had 2011 at Boarding House in May - not nearly as good.

Quite old-world in style with an excellent intriguing oaky nose, buttery, great ripe notes of fruit. Really fresh on the palate, a bit too much for my taste, spicy, white stone fruit... finishes quite tangy and acidic but still very nice.

Light medium lemon yellow color; tart lemon, tart pear, lemon oil, white jasmine, almond nose; rich, tasty, firmly textured, ripe lemon, tart pear, mineral palate with medium acidity; should age very well; medium-plus finish (13.2% alcohol per Raj; picked at about 21 brix; 25% new oak; full malolactic; from vines planted in early '70s)

Subtle floral notes on the nose. Crisp, astringent. Not my type of Chard - maybe let age. Let breathe, much better with food. Crispy chicken.

Light to medium straw color in the glass. Nose is full of green fruits and very inviting. The mouthfeel is where this wine comes alive. Bright acidity that even hits at the front of the tongue. Phenomenal mid palate concentration and a lovely finish. The balance is great. I really really like this wine. Paired great with some grilled halibut with grilled yellow orange and red peppers. Absolutely the opposite of the old school buttery California Chardonnay. This is one of my favorite white wines in some time.

Noticeable more golden coloured than the Santa Barbera and the Bent Rock. Quite a delicate restrained nose. Good poise with zippy acidity and a little grip but huge density of flavour. Very long through the palate with notes of candied lemon and a dominant, and very tasty, salted popcorn flavour. Excellent.

Tasting at The Watering Hole- Sandhi & other Terroir Selections (Los Olivos, CA): Light gold in the glass. Hints of creme fraiche & butter toffee, tropical fruit and melon charms the bouquet. Silky & bright palate with earth and mineral influence along with bright citrus & melon and hints of spice. Beautifully sleek on the palate with a full breathy finish. Outstanding.

The nose has hints of caramel, peanut brittle, salted popcorn and baked pear. The palate is almost velvety, balanced by a tingling acidity. The profile and weight are all truly Californian, but the restraint and nuance seem much more old world.

Pears, granny smith apples and crushed rock. This baby taste's like it is from Burgundy not the hills of California. As it warms a touch of tartness but nice not overwhelming!! Very Good Bravo Rajat and Sashi!!

Incredible depth and layers. I would never have pinned this as New World had I tasted it blind. Great toastiness without it being overpowering and a decidedly mineral-driven texture. Baked apple, meyer lemon, slight tropical fruit notes. Wonderful acidity and a lasting finish
