Found an orphan bottle of this at my wine merchant..
On nose and palate: all notes from June 2023 happily repeated....coffee, ripe berries, tobacco....fine New World Merlot.
If anything this seems to have more staying power than the 2016 vintage, the tannins seem firmer.

Quite a revelation here....
Bottle #3 ....from the same case lot as yesterday's questionable bottle....talk about bottle variation!
On nose and palate: all the familair notes of light tobacco, clean tannins, vanilla/ oak and sun warmed berries found in bottle #1, from Sept 2023.....very pleased.

So....clearly bottle variation with this wine.
On nose and palate:coffee beans, damp earth, milk chocolate, an underscoring of oak gall, and maraschino cherries, on a low acid, fullish body.....tastes as though stored in an overly warm space....drinkable, but only that......unbalanced, too soft for a dinner wine....not full and sweet enough for a dessert wine....8 years old...going on 25.

My week for British Columbia reds....
On nose: light eucalyptus, ripe strawberries and pipe tobacco.
On palate: all above flavours enhanced, with vanilla/ oak, coffee, a hint of mesquite charcoal, all displayed on a firm medium body, with well woven in tannins at 9 years of age.....needs a 2 hour decant to show its best.
Great with pork tenderloin this evening.

I like this even better than the 2014, and far better than the 2015, reviewed a while back.
On nose and palate: vanilla/ oak, ripe cherries, pipe tobacco, light but present tannins, sun warmed strawberries, blueberries and coffee...all displayed on a firm, medium body , at 7years of age....not badly priced at $20.00 in Vancouver.

So...Bottle #3 .....back on track!
On nose and palate: a perfume of cassis , blackberry ,tobacco and a hint of ripe figs.....bolstered by present , but maturing and subtle tannins....decanted for 2 hours, with notes of coffee and a ghost of eucalyptus on the finish....fine medium bodied New World Bordeaux - style wine....fully mature at nearly 10 years of age.

Why am I always the first note for many BC wines?
I'll say on day one I found this fairly thin in body. Day two was fabulous and day three I'm going to go get more. Not sure if a four hour decant would do what a couple days after opening does, but it was so good after being opened.

Surprisingly thin for a Cab Sauv dominate blend. Raspberry, cocoa and tar notes. Lacks structure. Day 2 didn’t help its cause.

So....what a pleasant surprise after the underwhelming 2015, tasted some months ago.
On nose: present vanilla/ oak, light tobacco and ripe blueberries.
On palate: all above flavour notes firing on all cylinders, clean acidity, ripe tannins , notes of boysenberry, a ghost of soy sauce, and cassis...all displayed on an unabashedly New World frame ....notes of Kona coffee and toasted walnuts show on the finish.
Geeat wine for Carolina BBQ, with all the fixins....drink up not an ager.

Dull yellow with a brownish tint. Putrid nose upon pouring. Some lemon, pineapple and mango. Two dimensional wine. Short finish. Worst of all, a quick sip would immediately caused me headache, which suggested bad winemaking or using additives. We managed to finish the bottle, and it gave me a small hangover despite not drinking too much. AVOID.

No idea going into this what to expect from a $10 close out bottle of aged Canadian merlot. Blind, I’d have thought this was from walla walla or Paso Robles. The nose was alarmingly sweet but the wine itself is pleasantly dry, with the age giving it some nice dried mint tones to the blueberry etc.

So...bottle #2 .
On nose and palate: all notes from August 2022 tasting intact.....however, this appears to be showing a bit of pre- mature aging.....very soft tannin, and an aftertaste of prune and clove ( unusual in a Bordeaux - style blend)
Still pleasant , but some bottle variation.

Really quite a surprising wine. Dark Garnet, lovely orange rim, flowers and some barnyard funk on the nose black pepper and blackberry eucalyptus.

Well balance, palette, acidity cutting tannin, some herbaceous mid palate. Really surprised by this one.

Another British Columbia Merlot...
On nose: dark chocolate and maraschino cherries.
On palate: above flavour notes follow through, with persistent high alcohol heat, present vanilla/ oak, clean acidity, full , soft body with weak tannins , notes of coffee, and ripe figs.....almost a dessert wine , with not quite enough sweetness....very New World, but not a good food wine.....it will have its followers though....Seven Stones produced a much better wine, with the 2014 Boulder Cab/ Merlot blend.

Vicki's. "Chocolate covered tobacco" said someone. I picked up on smoked paprika, cola, blackberries and dusty tannins. Shows young for its age, has miles to go.

Okay....Burgundy fan here...
So..
On nose: tart strawberry and green herbs.
On palate: above flavours amplified, with classic cherry pit, a ghost of cloves and nutmeg, dried rose, on a lean , full flavoured body, with refreshing( but not sharp) acidity....a civilized 13.7% alcohol reading.
A fine composite of New World meets Burgundian Old World....restraint, elegance ...well done..a reminder.of why I don't enjoy over- extracted, high alcohol California Pinot Noir....B.C. has some good Pinot producers...Blue Mountain is another.

Third wine of this producer sampled over the last month.
On nose: notes of berry jam and coffee.
On palate: above flavours present, as well as liquorice, plums, tobacco and a ghost of rosemary.
Light tannins, and a medium body , and at 5 years of age drinking well.....primarily Merlot in this case....a slightly softer wine than the 2014 Boulder, and the 2016 Legend sampled recently , from this producer....can age for a few more years....good choice for beef or lamb.

Elegant example of a New World bordeaux style blend
On nose: notes of coffee, eucalyptus, and muted tobacco.
On palate: all above flavour notes, in addition to ripe blackberry, cassis, and a whisp of ripe fig.
And at 8 years of age displaying muted tannins , after a 2 hour decant.....less intense than the 2016 Legends blend...but equally enjoyable ....went well with Pork Tenderloin tonight.

Another Southern British Columbia Cabernet......
On nose: green pepper and vanilla/ oak.
On palate: the oak is prominent, but not persistent , after a 3 hour decant , however, a broad panoply of flavours expand : dark chocolate, more pepper, cassis, pipe tobacco, fennel, minerals, and a ghost of eucalyptus, displayed on a full , but well balanced New World style.....48% Cabernet, with a civilized 13.9% alcohol...at 6 years of age ready to drink , but can age a bit....went well with Pork Tenderloin , roast potatoes and braised red cabbage tonight.
