So there has to be a touch of bottle variation here because this was still very good and I've had the cru many many times but this bottle was just a bit off. Not corked or spoiled in any way just not all together there. Somewhat disjointed and awry. Now after it was decanted for about 30 minutes it started to come together but it never was on the same page as the other crus. Like I said it has to be some bottle variation.

Drank at Darren's (Manhattan Beach) after an 08 Dancing Hares. Very short decant. This was a big robust bottle. Licorice, big tannin, hint of cherry. Amazing bottle; probably good for more years.

There is a reason I keep a case of this around 24/7. It's at a great price point and very good. There is not much bottle variation but I know if I want a solid cab with my meal or I need to go somewhere and only want to take a $50 bottle with me then this is my goto. My other is a Groth because for the price it is one of my favorites too.

Big boy wine, with crushed blackberry and blueberry are balanced with earth and tobacco tones - loved it.

Decanted and consumed 2/3 over 3 hours. Nose was more subdued than previous bottles. Purple fruit and some cedar. Less tannins than I recall... finished weak.

First taste of Aida Estate. Nose was very earthy and certainly had its terroir written on it. Taste was gripping tannins and mouthful of fruit. This wine evolved over the course of the evening! Have one bottle of this good stuff left and feels it has another five years before this heads south. Recommend waiting to open it.

Big fruit forward cab. Went well with a BBQ rib eye with a Texas seasoning. This needs time to mellow, but I'm not sure the structure is there.

Some fruit still left in this but not much depth. Drank a 750 ml 18 months ago which was better. As would be expected, this opened after airing for 90 min. To reveal leather, cigar box and a hint of mocha.

This never had a chance following the sensational Arietta Quartet, but it was exactly the big solid cab that makes Cru a winner year after year.

Is there a better daily drinker? I'd argue not. At least this is at the top of my daily drinking list along with the Seavey merlot and mt brave cab & merlot.

Do decant this one and wait...it took 2 hours to open up and reveal its character. Silky tannins, big but restrained fruit, juicy in the mouth.
Unlike a typical big Napa cab, it didn't exhibit heavy charcoal flavors that can choke its enjoyment near the end of the bottle. Instead, it remained graceful until nearly the last sip. Well done.

I rate this powerful giant extract cabernet a 95 because it was as opulent as a sweet tobacco river, flowing over soft bolders of spice, with chocolate eucalyptus trees above, dropping their chocolatey fruits into the river. Powerful and long finish, with very firm and approachable tannins delivering a firm, long ,yet round finish. Very impressive for an 03 Napa.

I think that the price pissed allot of people off...

This is drinking very well tonight. While still a fairly forward Cali cab, this has abit more of a reserved presentation with dark fruit(primarily cassis), leather, pipe tobacco notes, some cedar and firm chalky tannins on the medium length finish. For a $50 Cali cab, this is lacking abit of depth, but otherwise is quite nice and drinking well today, although I don't think there's any hury to drink it up.

Clearly a wine of distinguished pedigree, falling more on the 'elegant' side of the equation, rather than a 'blockbuster.' Seamlessly integrated smoked berries, sweet cherries, pencil shavings, restrained oak, tannins finer than silk. a lovely green element and the very faintest suggestion of funk. Lovely is the word that keeps coming to mind. The wine is already quite soft and I don't know if it has the goods for the long haul, and the price point is absurd, but it is something special and stands out from the crowd of fruit bomb, oak bomb Naps cabs. Much more restrained than most of the wine I've tasted made by Phillipe Melka, even at this address. This wine is made with fanatical care at every step of the process and it's evident.

Rating reflects the whole experience over three days. This wine took forever to come together but when it did, 95+! Started out being ruined on the first night by very edgy and sour tannins. By the second day it was starting to integrate and the fruit deepen with a velvety body. By the third day it was everything you could ask for in a cult cab with pencil shaving, cocoa, rich fruit and a long finish. Lots of life left in these.

Similar notes as before. Nice fruit but once again not overly deep/complex, smooth mid palate, and decent finish. Decanted for one hour and drank over another two. Improved a little with time. WA anticipated maturity 2013 to 2023.
