Son Ryan brought this from his cellar to a family celebration dinner. This was tight and a bit closed with the fruits subdued and overtaken by a layer of black tea, tobacco leaf, with hints of creosote over the black berry fruits. This needs bold zesty bar-be-que to offset the tight firm black fruits and non-fruit layer.

"Simple" Midweek Dinner - (Imperial Treasure, Asia Square) (Imperial Treasure, Asia Square): Really good – it bore some of the marks of the hot 2003 vintage, but somehow still came across as a very enjoyable, well-balanced CDP. Decanted for 2 hours before serving, this started with a sunny nose of ripe cherries and blueberries sprinkled with bits spice and bramble and garrigue, then notes of dried earth, stone and little nutty accents. A nicely complex nose. The palate was rich, thick and very textured, with fine, powdery tannins framing gorgeous flavours of ripe red cherries and berries along with more savoury tones of meat and earth. dried herbs and garrigue. Lovely – this had tons of complexity and character in the midst of its ripe 2003 fruit. It was beautifully balanced too, with deeply integrated acidity keeping the wine nicely poised. The vintage character showed up again in the slightly drying finish, but even then, it opened up nicely on the backpalate in time to show mouthcoating notes of sweet red fruit, nicely seasoned with herbs and spices. This still has a long future ahead of it, but it was already showing quite nicely with some time in the decanter. This would be interesting to try again in 3-4 years’ time.

This wine underperformed in my opinion. I know 2003 was a very hot vintage but the wine was almost an Amarone style wine. Deep, very hot, very grape-y, chewy, brooding wine. You could almost taste the texture of the grape skins in this wine. While other 2003 Pegau's were wonderful, this one wasn't as pleasing as I'd hoped. Opened for 30 minutes before drinking then after 1 hour after tasting it started to mellow out and take it's full stride.

Totally magic in a bottle. This profound 2003 Pégaü Cuvée Réservée displays abundant classical Grenache fruit. Kirsch, raspberry, blackberry and sun warm strawberries emerges with some time in the glass. The wine is perfectly mature but still has many years to go in the cellar. The nose in this bottle is as clean as all other 2003s I have tasted. After some time in the glass cinnamon, Asian spice box and tea leaves reveal themselves. The palate is lovely. It is perfectly integrated with a lovely acidity, velvety tannins and a length on the finish which goes on forever. Without a doubt, this is a profound wine with awesome complexity, elegance and power. (score is 98+)

The above tasting note is for the first bottling of this wine.

This wine was just spot on tonight! Nose of truffles, grilled meat, spices, sweet cherries, pepper, a hint of barn and garrigue.
The palate is juicy, with fine and lovely sweet red fruit, spices, not in any way heavy, and with a perfect balance with the fruit just slightly drying out in the end and with the tannins still present.
This should still be good for quite some time, but i cannot imagine it being any better than it was tonight... Only regret is, that i only have 1 bottle left:-(

Took perhaps 1/4 bottle on Monday evening. Put cork back in and bottle in fridge. Remainder of bottle was as good as ever, if not better, on Friday evening. Amazing wine, apparently with many years to go.

Quick note from a friends 50th bday pary. Small pour from a 9L format. A little stewy with loads of sweet herbs, mineral, layers of fruit, earth and tangy acids. Would have loved to have had over a few hours with food.

Spring Warm Up Tasting (The Lyon's Tree House): Four hour decant. If you're not into savory wines, don't open this (I'll buy yours!). This has nice fruit (Kirsch, fig, raspberry) but the experience is all about the leather, iron, wet underbrush, licorice, and spice notes that go on and on. Drinking great, has five years easy.

Tasted alongside a 1998 Beaucastel and and 2001 Vieux Telegraphe La Crau, this won hands down. It was young, vibrant, and brimming with life. By comparison, the La Crau was very good but more austere, and the Beaucastel (sadly) seemed over the hill...

Decanted over 3.5 hrs and then consumed over the next 90 minutes. It was very tight when first opened so I definitely recommend decanting. Good fruit and some mineralogy on the mid palate and nice finish.

91 pts

Nice dark garnet. Great purity of fruit, with both red and black fruits shining through beautifully in the nose along with cola. Sweet red fruits with vanilla. Apart from that Fairly non-descript, albeit tasty.

Time to check in again. Pop and pour into a decanter, didn't last very long. In the glass, dark saturated red with the first signs of auburn. The aromatics are exceptional: raspberries, bacon fat, forest floor, currants. Very inviting nose. On the palate, smooth and complex, with equal proportions of fruit, high-toned notes of aging, and beef blood minerality. With a steak, just about perfect.

Decanted two hours. Seems fairly evolved for its relative youth. However this is not a criticism in so much as it drank wonderfully this evening. Stunning nose of raspberry, barnyard, roses, meat and earth that presented ever-shifting nuances with each new sniff, let alone glass. The palate was equally impressive with some powerful layers of fruit and savour cosetted beautifully by the soft mouthfeel that age confers. Up to now I had been fairly bewildered by the scores given here as the nose had never presented so much complexity and the barnyard aspect seemed overly prominent. Much the most enjoyable of the three bottles I bought and, need I even say it, my last.

Very enjoyable, but didn't knock me off my feet as I assumed it would based on reviews. Especially in the nose, it felt slightly muted, possibly just bottle variation. Overall, still a great wine, filled with raspberry, kirsch, loads of current, truffle, barnyard, herbs, and picked up bits of chocolate with air. Paired beautifully with a goat cheese gnocchi. Would like to try another bottle in a couple years.

Wow wine. Right out of the bottle incredible beautiful light ruby color, with terrific aromas coming at me as I decanted. Nose has spicy blackberries, currant and jam. Delicious stuff. Nice long palate. Really well balanced. I get a (very) tiny bit of heat on the finish, but altogether great. Ready to drink. So sad it's my last bottle! One of the better CDPs I remember.

Note: after another hour in the glass post the above, two thoughts: this is darn close to perfect, and there's enough tannin masking fruit that maybe this still improves after a couple of years.

Decanted 2 hours, garrique, blood, meaty with white flowers and rose pedals on nose. Black & raspberry licorice, with green & black olive. Smoked, cured meats with black truffle & hint of spice box on long finish. On third day, the red fruits opened up. Silky smooth tannins with perfect acidity! Top CNDP I've ever drank!

Wow, people are raving about this wine here on CT. Fun to read. My 8th bottle of 12, and it is great now. Very complex and typical nose with thyme, horse manure, dark fruit and some forest floor. It has shed all of its fruit heaviness from 2003 and it is a very well integrated and complete wine today. Has not changed much since last year. Sweet attack and very nice mid palate with great stringent acidity and good length. Will have many years left. I could however never give a CnDP 99-100 points. But I agree that this is as good as it gets in CnDP (apart from Rayas…)

Whoops, opened instead of the 2001! A fortuitous mistake. Ripe red fruit, some spice, underpinning of licorice, clean and quite long. Not a bit too ripe or exotic.

NFA Dinner 2014 (Gattopardo Restaurant, Tras Street, Singapore): 2003 was the vintage of Da Capo (so named because it is meant to be symphony of all 13 varietals of CdP) that Laurence Feraud said she liked the least when we visited Pégaü a few years back - even though Robert Parker had anointed it with a perfect 100 points. I can see why - the heat of the 2003 vintages comes out enough for me to have guessed it as a 2003 Da Capo, and it may have lacked some of the juicy moreishness and balance of the greater vintages - but boy, I still thought that this was a superb wine. The nose was a shock to the system after the subtly fragrant 1995 Henri Bonneau Cuvee Celestins that precede it. This was big, rich and intense, with wafts of dried plums and dried prunes, and sweet dried cherries, with a halo of dried flowers and earth and garrigue floating on behind. Lovely stuff - very Provencal somehow and, while bold and assertive, still miles away from the in-your-face explosion of fruit and alcohol that was the 2010 Clos St Jean Deus ex Machinae - the third wine in the flight. The palate, as one would expect after such a nose, was ripe and powerful, with sweet flavours of dried plums and dried cherries, shading into prunes at time - all showing a bit of sur-maturite. Yet even with that over-ripe feel, there was always a clean enough balance to keep the wine feminine and floral at the same time, so that it seemed to glow with a sunny sweetness rather than being confected or spoofily fruited. There was just so much complexity coming out from amidst the fruit as well - hints of meat, a little kiss of warm, fragrant spice, sprigs of garrigue - just layers of detail as the wine powered into a long finish. The only thing that keeps this from being a great wine is the nagging sense of vintage on it, and the tannins just being a bit too drying right at the finish - this are, perhaps, things that even time will not cure. It is a great wine however, and still very much on its aging curve. It is quite a bit more forward than the Henri Bonneau, although (like the former wine), I would also give it another 3-4 years before trying again.
