10/30/2018 7:41:00 AM - Ron, thanks for your insight about the 2011 Evesham Wood PN and the 2011 vintage specifically. I don't know the northwest wines as well as some other regions and appreciate your comments. Don

1/25/2017 12:56:00 AM - Ron, I saw a recent comment on FB from Megan who I believed posted previously as tarheal when living in Seattle, then moved to the bay area. She may have been a work mate of yours, and I have not seen any posts from her for some time. Just curious. I enjoy reading your posts over on Berserkers as I am revisiting the back yard after wandering around the world for some time, ending up in WA before returning home to retire in the WV. But as you may know their is only one end to this journey and hopefully I have a few years left to wander around a bit. My wife is discovering the beauty of PN along with my daughter and her husband. I am starting to explore the whites, so this may be a shared journey on all our parts.

1/27/2014 7:49:00 AM - Thanks for alerting me to the error in my post.. I'll remove my post from the Eroica and get it reposted under the correct wine. I don't know how I put it under The Eroica-- somehow I clicked wrong

5/4/2013 11:42:00 PM - I see you got a few bottles of that Eyrie 'Original Vines' Pinot Gris.... I didn't post a note but I had a bottle of it a week ago and it was the bees knees.... You should drink one sometime soon.

12/31/2012 9:34:00 AM - Sounds like you have a great start. In terms of Oregon, the next two I'd recommend would be Cameron and Matello. They do great pinot noir but their whites are top notch, too. Most of the producers I follow tend to produce wines with less extraction/ripeness and higher acidity, so take it with a grain of salt. You should also check out anything made by Eyrie. I buy a fair amount of Evesham Wood, Belle Pente, Westrey and Patricia Green, too. That is a great place to start. Seven of Hearts is pretty damn good too, as is Ayres. Most of these producers have general WV designated wines that will give you an idea of their "house style" but they are often very different from the top end single vineyard wines made by each producer. I would dip my toe into an AVA designated wine from each (e.g., Dundee Hills rather than "Willamette Valley" to see what they do with better fruit as a truer indicator of what they do at the higher levels). Often as you pay more you'll see how extracted or oaky the wines get and whether that is to your liking and you can find the sweet spot. Often the winemakers will put their best grapes into bottlings that are on the more intense and oaky side, with the sole intention of making a wine that must be cellared to integrate properly, so if you give them time they will be beautiful wines. I would think about when you want to drink the wines as this can help you find stuff you'll enjoy now and later. The basic rule, which is obvious, is to enjoy the cheaper stuff earlier and stash away the pricey stuff as it won't show that well now anyway, especially if your averse to wines that come off as oaky.

12/29/2012 7:56:00 PM - Ron - Thanksfor accepting friend request. I was interested to see that we have Brick House & J Christopher in common. I'm interested is seeing what other wineries that you follow. I'm learning fast, but I'm a relative newcomer to Pinot. Do you have any recommendations? Tim
