Pinot Noir - Pommard. #2; COLOR-dark; NOSE-very hot; black cherry soda; a little lard action; TASTE-really nice firm tannins; good structure; great fruit coming through on the back-end; floral component; a beefy and heavy Pinot; a little one dimensional and a little soft on the finish, but solid; GV-87+ 87+ points

2005 Pommard Tasting, Episode #552 (10/6/2008)
Pinot Noir - Pommard. FIRST TASTING (after 3 hour decant): COLOR-medium; NOSE-a little tight; some chalk; dark chocolate covered licorice; there is a creaminess & elegance on this nose; Crème Brule action; TASTE-BIG tannins on this wine ripping through my palate; completely tight as a rock flavors; I get a little gaminess and a little mushroom aspect, but very tight; It's so young that it's almost undrinkable; tight firm tannins; lacking a lot of fruit right now; probably unpleasant experience for many because there is that much structure and tannins; I think we've opened this wine 15-20 years too soon; so tight & undrinkable; unapproachable; I'm going to decant this for 48 hours and re-taste on Wednesday 10/7; this wine is too young to be evaluated and scored; GV-?? SECOND TASTING on Episode #554 (after 48 hour decant): NOSE-considerable difference, a cola component, a little chalk dust & greenness; mocha, chocolate; green pepper; TASTE-it's opened up considerably; getting a lot of cherries & strawberries; still very tight tannins; a tea leaf component on the mid-palate; finishes very fresh w/ great length; this wine has a lot of potential; little hint of cinnamon stick on the back-end; a solid bottle of Burgundy; I like it quite a bit; this is a very nice wine 2 days later; GV-91+ 91+ points

2005 Pommard Tasting, Episode #552 (10/6/2008)
Pinot Noir - Pommard. #1; COLOR-dark; NOSE-sweaty sock, barnyard, earthiness; paprika on the back-end; black pepper; mushrooms; TASTE-good structure; Wow, very good; this is Burgundy lovers Burgundy; very earthy, austere, awkward, mushroomy; gamey; really explosive; gorgeous red fruit; black raspberry on the mid-palate; extreme length; a little eggplant component; very lush and round; really elegant; classic red Burgundy that you usually costs $70-$80 bones; some coffee action still developing on the finish; perfect with duck; if you drink now, decant 3-5 hours, but this should be great in 7-10 years; GV-90+ 90+ points
