This is pure Cabernet Franc, zero dosage, non-filtered. The method is essentially ancestrale, meaning a single fermentation started en cuve but then finished in bottle to provide the mousse. A pretty and bright nose, stony, fresh and leafy, with a plentiful mousse. Very lively, more than just pétillant, could show some elegance with time. Drink now for the fruit and fun or leave for a short while to see how that mousse settles down. 16 points

A lightly honeyed nose here, clean and stylish. Beautifully textured, gently polished, very well defined. Lots of gritty substance, good grip and acidity, clean and sappy, with a fine tension running right through to the finish. A really admirable style here. 17.5+ points

From a small lieu-dit of just 0.4 hectares, a site with a thin layer of soil over a deeper limestone. A very minerally nose here, although with a touch of sulphur still. A lovely composition on the palate, bright and fresh, finely styled with lots of defining acidity. Good substance, great nervosity and a breezy, saline style. It needs to shake off the sulphur but should be very fine in time. (17-18+) points

The domaine cuvée, vinified in cement, then 10 months in oak. An evolving and slightly gamey nose here, certainly stylish, quite rich and enticing. The palate is just so fine; pure in texture with lovely flesh, great balance, with lots of nicely poised tannin in the background. There is a good, stony minerality to it as well. Very impressive. I like this much more this year than I did last year. 17.5+ points

The domaine cuvée, from clay-limestone soils, fermented in cement. Vibrant fruit on the nose, stony, fabulously pure, clean and stylish, crunchy cherry. The palate is more softly textured than these words suggest, even a little silkiness here, this already has wonderful harmony. A gentle style with svelte tannins, this could be drunk now it is so delicious. (16-17+) points

This wine is now finished and in bottle, just 3000 available. Amazing fruit on the nose, essence of macerated cherries. This same character comes through on the palate, very very concentrated, elegantly creamed fruit, a blending of richness and finesse. A super texture, great backbone of tannins, fine in character, substantial too. A wonderful grand vin and a very pure homage to Cabernet Franc in all its glory. Excellent. Like the domaine cuvée, showing much better this year. 18.5+ points

Only just gone into oak one week ago after completing fermentation. Despite this recent handling it has evocative fruit on the nose, fine and vibrant, with a pure and intense vein of fresh raspberry. A rather sooty edge on the palate, structured and ripe, extracted but with an appealing silky quality to the fruit. Despite that sooty grip it has a good finesse, but also fine substance. Lovely potential here. (17-18+) points

Residual sugar 160 g/l, total acid 8.25 g/l, alcohol 12%. Aged in 225-litre barrels which have seen at least four vintages. The nose here carries the aromas of honey and quartz, floral and powerful. This is open, expressive and impressive; what wonderful character! Great generosity on the palate, evocative flavours, with honeyed stone fruit, with a rich seam of minerals and quartz. A brilliant style here, huge energy, amazing vigour backed up by precise and mouth-watering acidity. A supreme example of the type which should be delicious young but which should be majestic given time. (18.5-19.) points

I first tasted this at the domaine in 2004 and bought some, impressed by how fresh and defined it seemed in a hot vintage (that isn't to deny the wine is a bit fatter or that the acidity seems more gentle than is usual). A lovely hue, pure and golden in the glass, and a fresh fruit-laden nose, full of pears and crystalline stone fruit, with minerals alongside. Cool and fresh on the palate, although with a beautiful and broad creamy texture. There is substance here, a savoury and mineral grip, and elegantly defined edges. Pears, mint, bay and more, all sugar-crusted, although with no sweetness. It doesn't have much in the way of overt acidity, but it has plenty of freshness and definition, and a gently fading finish. Not a wine for every day for sure, but with a beautiful texture, flavour and presence this is lovely for sipping. Five years ago I wrote "drink over the next five years" but clearly it will go longer than that. Of note, I was tasting the latest releases with Bernard Fouquet at the Salon in February and in more recent vintages this cuvée has been bottled under screwcap. 17 points

Yield 40 hl/ha on average, residual sugar 6 g/l, total acid 6.8 g/l. Alcohol 13%. Fermented and then matured en cuve. Bottled under screwcap (the only wine in the range to be closed this way) since the 2007 vintage. This has a pure and linear character on the nose, fine and convincing. A great style on the palate, vibrant acidity, lovely fleshy texture, minerally and honeyed, and yet very much in the sec arena in terms of perception of sugar on the palate. This is complete, broad, vigorous and concentrated, with a great and vivacious finish. (16.5-17.) points

This has 25 g/l of residual sugar, 8.25 g/l total acidity and 12.5% alcohol. Fermented and raised en cuve. There is still some sulphur on the nose here, although with clean fruit behind. The palate is full of sweet, ripe and fleshy pear fruit, polished and well-rounded. Lovely balanced acidity, less energetic than the two sec wines in this vintage I feel, but still a very admirable and vigorous style. Clean, more minerally on the palate then the nose, with creamed citrus fruit. This is lovely and should be great with a little cellar-time. (16.5-17.) points

Yield 40 hl/ha, residual sugar 3 g/l, total acid 6.9 g/l. Alcohol 13%. Fermented in 400-litre barrels, one-third each new, one-year and two-years old. A touch more smoke and mineral here compared with the Cuvée de Silex, boldly presented, with a layer of pure stone fruit. Somewhat leaner on the palate than I expected, but very fresh, with piercing and vibrant acidity as a backbone. Lots of substance underneath despite the low residual, lots of energy too, this is a fine effort. Just lacks a little precision compared with the Silex. (16.5-17.) points

This sweet cuvée has 90 g/l residual sugar, with 7.5 g/l total acidity and 11% alcohol. Clay and limestone terroir. Fermented and matured en cuve. A fresh and very pure nose, light and direct but filled with lovely stone fruit character. Lots of verve on the palate, a fine but lightly honeyed structure narrowing down into a well-tuned finish. Great fleshiness here, vigorous, well-defined with good acidity. Overall a delicious, energetic and well-composed wine. (17-18+) points

This is 100% Chenin Blanc from a slope of sandstone and schist, with twelve months en barrique before bottling. A rich style on the nose, lightly honeyed citrus fruits and peaches, touched with white flower petals. Not at all oaky, although there is a gentle background tinge. Well defined, with lots of structure, well framed and with a little more honeyed oak here. Good grip to the finish. Overall, good. 16.5+ points

This is a 100% Chenin Blanc cuvée, the vines planted on a terroir characterised by schist and quartz, the wine aged twelve months en cuve, with bâtonnage. A chalky minerality on the nose, fresh and aromatic, crunchy with floral white fruits. The same freshness comes through on the palate, which is rounded, full of peachy tangerine fruit. Good substance; dry and structured, but accessible. Fleshy but well framed, overall really nice. 16.5+ points

This cuvée is 70% Cabernet Franc and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. A hugely bright and aromatic nose here, a blend of hot stones and crushed, smoky black fruits. The palate is lovely, smoky fruit like the nose, textured like light cream but also elegant and structured. There are firm and ripe tannins, and pretty notes of tobacco relating to very early maturity. A lovely, grippy, stony finish. Very fine, with years ahead of it. 17+ points

This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Dark and glossy on inspection, with hot and smoky fruit on the nose, intense and nuanced with rosemary. The palate has a lovely ripe and sweet style, more creamy than the straight Brissac in this vintage, around a ripe core of tannin. Lots of good acidity, all the same very showy, crunchy black fruits touched with tar and minerals, and a flourish of tannin on the finish. Lovely. 17+ points

This sweet wine sits more or less in the middle of Christophe Daviau's range. A cuvée of partly botrytised fruit, the nose is fresh and floral, with honey and beeswax. Honeyed sweetness on the palate, quite restrained though, with very gentle acidity. Soft, rounded, quite polished. Overall a good style of wine. 16+ points

Pure Sangiovese of course, with a year in barrel, half French and half Slavonian. The nose displays this somewhat, with a slightly high-toned edge to some polished oak, alongside notes of smoky cherries with a confit edge, and pastry, rather reminiscent of cherry pie. Not big or overly sweet though. Medium-bodied on the palate, with a firm structure that demands food, or a few more years cellar-time yet. Good sappy-substance though, polished extract, firm and welcome acidity, and a light infusion of ripe, sweet tannins towards the end. Lots of meat to it in the finish too. Deliciously drinkable now, but it will go in the cellar for a few years too. 16+ points

From a clay-limestone terroir, and 5-6 year-old vines. No malolactic fermentation and just 2.5 g/l residual sugar. Clean and precise fruit on the nose, very expressive, with bright notes of yellow plum. The palate has a lovely feel to it, bright like the nose, with green-yellow fruit character and good acids. Overall a rather tense and nervous style, minerally too. Good wine. 16 points

A second sample, the first bottle opened having been corked. A good, direct and elegant style on the nose, with pure and fresh fruit character. It is somewhat gravelly, lighter and aromatic than usual. The palate shows that this just isn't ready yet; a moderate texture with gentle fruit, with a good tannic core. This needs time, perhaps a couple of years. It is exceptionally good for such a difficult vintage. 16.5+ points

Again still currently in oak, and not due to be bottled until September 2010. The nose is evocative, with a fabulous array of fruits, mostly fresh and red in character but also a touch of peach. Fine creamed-fruit character on the palate, complex and dense but also structured, with plenty of ripe, dark tannins at the core. Great density. This wine needs a lot of time. Excellent. 18+ points

This is from a pure limestone terroir, tuffeau as it is known locally. A great nose here, rich and dense, with pure ripe fruit. Dark, concentrated, with a slightly sooty edge perhaps reflecting the wine's tannic substance. This is exactly what the palate possesses; dense substance, very rich yet balanced, with a firm tannic core giving the wine a monumental structure. This is a huge wine, a vin de garde, which requires 10-15 years before it will be ready. (18-19+) points

Currently still in oak, due to be bottled in March 2010. A great colour here, still with a remarkably youthful-looking blue-tinged hue. The nose is delightful, very open and accessible, with warm but well defined fruit. The palate shows lots of structure and buoyant acids, backing up a layer of open and sweet fruit. The tannins are ripe, giving a good composition to the wine. Lovely stuff, but it deserves 3-5 years of cellar time I think. 17+ points

A clay and limestone terroir again. A beautifully glossy hue here, notes of minerals and stone, over a layer of dark and creamy fruit. Very restrained in style, although very textured and fruit-rich through the middle it is well-framed from the beginning with acid and tannin. A ripe flourish of tannin in the finish shows this is one for the cellar. Excellent potential. (17.5-18.) points
