Pale hue. Very aromatic nose; roasted cashew nuts probably reflecting toasted oak. Nice weighty presence on entry, with rather raw, grippy, wood-derived tannins apparent here and through the midpalate. Very dry, savoury, wood spice finish. There is a little honey-edged, lemony fruit poking out from beneath. Good, although simple and raw at present; I suspect this needs a year or two to integrate. 15+ points

A lovely, vibrant, deep, cherry red hue. Summer berries on the nose, with black cherry dominating, with dark coffee grounds and some cloves. The palate gives great pleasure; it shows plenty of frivolously ripe summer fruits, but with a more serious structure. Fairly firm but very ripe tannins, moderate acidity, and a velvety texture. Plenty of extract. Lip-smacking, tannin-infused finish. This is very good, with super potential. 17+ points

Another deep, purple-black wine. Lovely nose, redolent of black summer fruits, with a lining of spicy oak too. Great texture, with a smooth puree of fruits, coated with a sheen of slightly raw, youthful oak, laid over and around and core of ripe, peppery tannins. Seductive, velvety mouthfeel, acidity moderately low, and approachable now; although I suspect 5-8 years in the cellar should be fine. Very good potential here. 17+ points

Decent colour - some more depth than previously I think. Good fresh nose, and good vinosity on the palate. Holding together well; full, with good flavour, but with a simple, rustic feel. Not falling apart though, unlike the last bottle I tasted which was horribly angular and disjointed...goodness, was that really three years ago? A pleasant surprise. 15 points

Really dense colour when poured into the glass, with a deep red-purple hue right out to the rim. A brawny nose, with notes of beef stock alongside deep, dark fruits, black cherries and smoky currants all rolled into one. Obvious youth on the palate, which seduces with a wealth of accessible extract and texture. Dark, mineral-laden fruits, with a stony grip, with some ripe, succulent tannins rolling in at the end. Good, meaty finish. A wine to seduce, approachable now but with the substance to go another six years at least. Very good indeed. 17+ points

A blend of 60% Riesling and 40% Gewurztraminer from the marl soils of the Burg vineyard. Stunning nose; captivating minerality, stony-chalkiness. But with ripe, stone fruit as well. Little varietal Gewurztraminer character, but a steely fruit note which may be Riesling-derived. Ripe, full, expressive palate, with pure, clean, weighty texture but with piercing, fresh, tingling acidity. This is beautiful, stylish, so-drinkable wine. 18 points

A mid-gold hue. On the nose it has minerals, crystal-like white fruits; a gorgeous purity of aroma. Delightful palate; full and plump, but precise, pure, focused, and with depth, grip and great body. Rich, with a sweet ripeness, but fine and balanced, with a firm, structured finish and super length. Is this sufficient praise? This is stunning; drink over the next decade. 19+ points

A gorgeous, rich, golden colour. Dense, smoky, Gewurztraminer character, intense and perfumed, with notes of plump Turkish Delight. A big palate, full and rich, with lots of mouthfilling structure. Low acidity contributes to the big, soft feel, but there is plenty of grippy backbone to match. Lovely weight and presence, with great depth. Superb. 18 points

A ripe, golden hue. Rich, ripe, expressive nose, heavily laden with honey-spice and nuances of bacon. Beautiful entry, pure and rich rather than cloyingly sweet, full of character, full and textured, yet pure and cleanly balanced. This is stunning stuff; benchmark Gewurztraminer. 18.5 points

Good depth of colour. Marked petrol aroma not noticed last time, and this quickly dissipates leaving powerful lime citrus character. Firm, upright palate, with strong acidity and plenty of lime and steel flavour. Rich, creamy, but very structured and almost austere. Sweet, citrussy, lengthy finish. This is very good, and if anything is probably a little one-dimensional; only a little development since last tasted 18 months ago, so more time in the cellar required I think. 17+ points

Moderately deep colour, still youthful. Dark fruit, meaty, animal fur nose. Initially showing a lot of liquorice oak which fades with a little air. Big, full, not quite creamy palate, but rich with extract and texture. Firm grippy tannins. Quite primary and simple at present, but may pick up complexity with time. Grippy finish. Plenty of substance. Should improve over the next five years, and drink for five to eight years thereafter. 16+ points

Chardonnay 42%, Pinot Noir 46%, Pinot Meunier 12%. Base vintage is the 2000. Current release. Elegant, white fruit. Touch of honeycomb. Fresh, leafy herbal style, but with body and decent texture. A little rich. Very good for a basic non-vintage cuvée. 16+ points

Chardonnay 62%, Pinot Noir 38%. Grand cru 90%, premier cru 10%. Very pale. Refined nose, elegant, showing white fruits. Fine palate. Balanced, vinous, full, characterful yet fresh. This is delicious wine. Showing immensely superior to the bottle I had just a month or so ago - I suspect storage was the problem there. 17+ points

Pinot Noir 54%, Chardonnay 46%. Slightly less pale. Open, honey and caramelised apple nose, with meaty notes betraying the presence of the Pinot. Full, creamy, biscuity. A suggestion of red fruits. Honeycomb. Opulent, moderate acidity, drinking now. Very good indeed. 17 points

80% S, 15% SB, 5% M. A lovely nose, expressive, with obvious botrytis. Perfumed, with aromas of ranges, apricots and honey. This is very open, forward and impressive. Moderate concentration on the palate, which is lithe and balanced. Orange fruit character, with a fat texture which builds through the palate. A touch oily, even. This is very good indeed. Is 1999 an underrated vintage for Sauternes? 16.5+ points

This seemed rather austere and a little lean when tasted three years ago. Has a good colour still. Some dark fruits on the nose. Not a lot of secondary development. Showing an appealing texture through the palate now, with a little flesh, although it retains a firm, upright stance - although no longer would I describe it as austere. As with the nose, little in the way of complexity here, but it does give some pleasure. Short finish. 15 points

Glossy colour, also showing some maturity. Firm nose, although rather mysterious, a little reticent, but some mature, meaty notes reveal themselves with time. Full, textured, quite creamy palate. Fleshy presence, smoky, rich, dark fruits. This has a real presence. Excellent. 18 points

Dark, glossy hue. The nose has dark, smoky fruit. It's quite intense, and only with a little air does it reveal a very mild cork taint. It is very faint, insufficient to strip all the dark, smoky fruit character from the wine. Ripe grippy tannin, full and rich. Lovely length. This is a wine with great potential - if other bottles aren't corked, obviously! I will award a tentative score - a taint-free bottle may show even better. 17.5+? points

Two bottles within a week or so of each other. The nose shows coffee oak, molasses, mocha and caramel - wow! Full, creamy and luscious palate, full of delightfully textured black fruits with plenty of extract. Roasted berries, iron, bloody beef, black cherry and blackcurrant fruit character. This has all the stuffing required for the cellar. Excellent potential. This will continue to improve over the next eight years at the very least. 17.5+ points

Youthful hue, good concentration, thin pink rim. Smoky black cherry nose, with a sweet, honey-roast nut sideline. Lovely presence of fruit, again dominated by black cherry, with a very slightly creamy mouthfeel. A seam of tangible extract, medium body, a gentle presence of ripe tannin to give a little backbone, and good acidity. Flows across the palate. This is very good. For drinking now and over the next five years. 17 points
