A rather pale, satin pink hue, which leads on to a rather sweet and confected nose. Firm and yet rather soapy character on the nose, with some simple red fruits, and a big foamy mousse. This is very simple stuff. Not one I would recommend. 13 points

A paler wine than those which have preceded it. It has a rather floral, light, slightly toffee-nuanced nose. Good presence on the palate though, fairly crisp, with a little seam of richness. Overall, however, it seems rather simple and one-dimensional. For current drinking. 14.5 points

Quite an expressive nose, showing a little meaty, organic character. Rather advanced, with faint background oxidation here too. Appealing but surprisingly forward. Fine structure though, good firm acidity. A good, full, rounded mouthfeel. Needs to integrate. In addition, this bottle may not be typical. 15.5 points

An appealing, onion skin hue. Notes of raspberry leaf on the nose. Full and dry on the palate, showing some redcurrant fruit, which is rather green and leafy. This has a decent enough style, but has a rather short finish, which carries a little note of bitterness also. 14 points

I was intent on cracking open the first from my case of the 1998; young I know, but what's the harm when you have a dozen? When I saw it buried beneath twenty other cases, however, I settled on the 1994, which was much more accessible. Good colour, a deep core, maturing rim. The nose displays a little disjointed alcohol, but this is more than compensated for by the meaty, furry, black olive character that is also present. Medium bodied, correct acidity, full and pleasing mouthfeel. Rather firm, just a little solid through the midpalate, but plenty of smoky, garriguey, underbrush appeal too. Very ripe, together, not-quite-seamless style, with some length. Very little development since my last tasting. Very good. 16.5+ points

The colour shows some maturity here, displaying rich, mahogany tones as it is poured into the decanter; there was no sediment of note, though. A lovely, quite classic nose, with meaty, iron filing notes with a little baked twist to the plentiful fruit, with some hot spices too. Full, a little creamy on the palate, but with fine extract, and ripe, succulent tannins which are integrating well. Nicely structured, moderate and balanced acidity, with good length. This is lovely, for drinking over the next 5-8 years. 17+ points

A salmon-pink hue. Great character on the nose here, which shows notes of caramel, firm red and even black fruits, showing a little blackberry in particular. This is an unusual profile, and this shows on the palate which is very serious, quite firm, and is currently still a little disjointed in character. There is some naked alcohol, and even some tannin here. This has good potential though, but needs several years bottle age for all this to come together. 16.5+ points

A mid-gold hue. Very different on the nose compared with my memory of my last tasting, as this displays a lot of buttery caramel and toffee character; does this reflect date of disgorgement? More sweet, creamy caramel character on the palate which is full and rounded and nicely textured, with just moderate acidity. Clearly a good wine for the vintage though. 16+ points

Rather a creamy, yeasty nose here. On entry this flatters with a rather full, appealing, floral character. But this then disappears, leaving a hollow midpalate full of, well, nothingness. Its all downhill from there. This is light and inconsequential. Avoid. 13.5 points

This wine has a deep, copper-toned hue. The nose is quite rich and rather meaty, and the palate has plenty of impact on entry, showing a similarly full, rich, creamy style. Overall this is a rather rustic, full-on, in-your-face style, but forgiving that this makes decent short-term drinking. 14.5 points

The second wine of La Tour Blanche. A very appealing, rich golden hue. Simply delightful nose, full of depth and showing some ripe botrytis complexity. Honey and barley sugar, melon and pineapple on the nose, with a hint of toffee. Midweight palate, but full and seductive, creamy and having plenty of depth. This has an exotic, ripe mouthfeel, balanced by good acidity, which gives way to a full finish and superb length. Drink now and over the next five years. A recent purchase, this is extraordinarily good value; I have purloined a couple more for the cellar. 18 points

A lovely, pure, quite homogenous and moderately deep colour. A very typical nose, showing aromas of baked raspberry, raspberry leaf and green peppercorns, a characteristic of Cabernet Franc just hovering on the edge of ripeness I think. Medium bodied, fairly reserved at first, but then coming out with a light, oily-silky texture married with a hard, minerally, charcoal background. Lovely, seamless presence through the to the finish, though, where there are plenty of stalky tannins. I like this, and I think it will improve in the short term. 16.5+ points

A rather seductive nose, just a little bready, a little yeasty still, with nutty nuances in the background. Quite stylish on the palate, full and creamy texture and yet reserved, not at all blowsy. Elegant (a compliment from me, I don't use this as a euphemistic criticism), balanced, very approachable. Good for short-term drinking. 16 points

A pale, satin pink, and a slightly confected red fruit nose marks this wine. Nevertheless on the palate it has a full, creamy mousse backed up by a lovely structure and backbone of acidity. This needs cellar time, and should be very drinkable with that proviso. 16+ points

From a half bottle. The only deuxième cru in this line-up of wines from my cellar. A really pretty colour here, vibrant and golden. Plenty of green apples and fresh garden mint on the nose here at first, slowly supplanted by notes of pineapple, deep, smoky, slightly peaty oak and botrytis too. Lovely palate,. very elegant and very well structured, immediately showing some earthy, oaky fruit immersed in a fine, creamy-oily texture. This oaky fruit dominates through to the finish, which in terms of freshness and persistence shows very good potential for the future. Very good indeed. 17.5+ points

A soft nose, showing a little whiff of sulphur. Nice texture on the palate, certainly better than some of the wines that followed. Good minerality, and some decent structure. One of the more palatable demi-secs here. 15 points

This wine has quite a deep and vibrant satin pink hue. On the nose it has a rather rounded, minerally, pebbly character, with some subtle, leafy liquorice notes. Good, full palate, structured, with leafy redcurrant fruit. This makes decent drinking, but again it needs cellar time I think. 16 points

An interesting, mineral nose, quite chalky, certainly very expressive, with some appealing floral fruit, but more than anything else this is a wine of minerals. Some appeal on the palate, although rather intense acidity at present. Full, characterful, nut and mineral melange. Marred by a short, rather bitter finish. Decent though. 15.5 points

Clean, fairly stylish nose, fairly expressive, showing a little nutty character. Elegant, minerally, lemon-thyme palate. Fresh, reserved, balanced, with soft acidity. There is good quality here although its clearly a little muted at present, but it stands up well to the sea of other vintages here. I suspect this will come good in the cellar. 16+ points

New release. A remarkable pale wine here, barely pink at all. The nose has a soft, unappetising canned strawberry quality, with a sweet edge. This continues onto the palate, with a certain confected edge, and a tin can nervousness on he finish. Drinkable, if you must. 14.5 points

A pale, green-tinged wine. Very crisp, fresh nose, with a grassy, greengage element and a little vein of potential richness. This opens out to reveal more classic, mineral character. Good body on entry, moderately full, a little spice-tinged acidity, which develops a peppery sharpness through the midpalate. Some good, very typical chalky minerality comes through with some time. This has definition and is certainly food-friendly, and is streets ahead of the 2003. Very good wine. 17+ points

There is a faint caramel note on the nose here, behind some rather subtle stone fruit character. But it is quite muted; put simply, this is really rather closed at present. An elegant presence on the palate, followed by a wall of firm acidity, which dominates the soft, creamy, bready, slightly nutty mouthfeel. There is good potential for the cellar here. 16+ points

Current release. Barely a hint of onion skin to this otherwise pink wine. The nose certainly has appeal, with notes of oranges and other citrus fruits providing welcome relief among all the strawberries and redcurrants. Lovely palate, broad and expressive, showing notes of peaches and tangerines, with a mineral background and a soft, creamy mousse. This is very good indeed. Drink now. 17 points

A very characterful set of aromas here, with a melange of smoky, cordite, gunpowder mineral character on one side, and lemon and thyme on the other. Full, stylish palate, very expressive, with plenty of flint and cordite on entry, which develops into a full, creamy midpalate. Soft acidity. It rounds off with a mix of marzipan and citrus. This is one of the better wines here, and should do well in the cellar. 17+ points
