Lemon custard and toffee on the nose here, and yet despite that on the palate it seems very bland indeed. Softly composed, the palate falling away in the middle, revealing only hard acidity and obvious alcohol. Disjointed. No appeal for me here. 12 points

A slightly yeasty-chalky nose here, gentle substance on the palate, with a crisp and delicate mousse. Somewhat fatter on the midpalate, quite attractive, with very fresh acidity. Stony fruit character, nice flesh too though, good harmony. Bright, yellow plum fruit and a vigorous finish. Really good. 16.5+ points

Cabernet Sauvignon 50%, Merlot 38%, Petit Verdot 12%. A rather gamey nose here, with damson jam and sweet cassis, with a slightly high-toned edge. A softly styled palate, quite open, with a gentle suppleness of fruit. Then wham! - over the horizon of soft acids and plump fruit comes a wall of tannins which persists right through the finish. This will need two decades to come around. (16-17+) points

This wine made from Garganega has a fresh and lively nose, with a smoky minerality. The palate has a rather light feel, lean and steely, crisp and well-framed, with great acids and a lovely structure. Good wine, with vigour and a really appealing life. 16 points

This is made from Cabernet Sauvignon. A surprisingly gamey nose, with a very warm, soft-focus feel to it. There are some appealing aromatic elements coming off the palate, the fruit showing a chalky edge here, the structure a soft-edged grip showing more through the finish. Interesting. 14 points

This is from limestone soils, and after fermentation it is finished off in barrel. The character on the nose is more restrained, lightly honeyed. A firm and polished style on the palate, quite tight though, but substantial, overall very good. 16.5+ points

From volcanic soils, this has an intensely minerally nose, crisp and stylish. A fine palate, broader and powerful yet fresher and more lively than the San Vincenzo. Good acidity, lovely minerality, this has a fabulous substance. 16.5+ points

The fruit for this sweet cuvée is dried for four months before fermentation. A golden hue, minerally with a savoury yet honeycomb character. On the palate, good acidity, lots of substance, creamy with very sweet fruit in a dried, pastille-like style. Hints of golden plum, savoury-bitter elements too. Good substance and balance here. 17.5+ points

Cabernet Sauvignon 60%, Merlot 24%, Cabernet Franc 14%, Petit Verdot 2%. Good colour although not the most concentrated. Really exuberant black cherry fruit on the nose, quite broad and firm in style rather than sweet or soft, although it is certainly ripe. Very well judged density on the kick-off, with a bolder midpalate, very deeply polished tannins, providing a delicious, savoury frame for the fruit which has a deeply flavoursome character with a juicy edge. Rather supple, with good acidity cutting through the middle, although it is balanced by all the fruit and substance. Lovely. (17.5-18.) points

Cabernet Franc 55%, Merlot 45%, yield 27 hl/ha. In this vintage Ausone has a creamy-glossy appearance in the glass, and it has a very different style to the rest of the Ausone range, including the second wine Chapelle d'Ausone. The nose is more perfumed, it is of course Cabernet Franc rather than Merlot-dominated (just!). Fresh, crisply defined, with sweet crystalline dark fruits. The palate begins in a supple style, maintaining an elegant poise through the middle, with a fine layer off fruit. A supple composition, still very youthful in terms of fruit character, but clearly elegant and very fresh. Poised, almost Burgundian in style, a wine of understated elegance. Very nicely ripe tannins, almost silky, very harmonious and well hidden by the fruit, and the acidity gives it a good cut too. Within the vintage on the right bank, and in comparison to previous vintages of Ausone I have tasted (not many!) it has a very distinctive, linear style that might surprise some. A wine of supreme quality all the same. (18.5-19.) points

This has a clean and precise nose, showing good minerally fruit. There is still a slight trace of sulphur but this will not be a problem given a little time. Very nicely styled on the palate, which has good definition and harmony. Lots of substance, still rather tight, but a lovely gentle integration tells me this should be really good. 17+ points

Sweet golden fruits on the nose here, although they are presented in a very crisp fashion. Fleshy and quite bold on the palate, certainly a fresh style, with good acidity. Impressive weight for Bastor, with a solid grip underneath. Overall a very good effort here. (16.5-17.) points

Cabernet Sauvignon 74%, Merlot 22%, Cabernet Franc 2%, Petit Verdot 2%. Picked at 41 hl/ha. A glossy appearance, rich but bright fruit character on the nose, with a cherry and damson fruit profile. Nicely composed on the palate, very integrated and held together well. Rather a juicy style of fruit here, with soft acidity and rather firm alcohol. The fruit tends to fade away in the mouth. A little straightforward, but it should develop more interest with time. (14.5-15.) points

This has rather a bold style on the nose here, with some slightly meaty oak tinged fruit. Lots of supple texture here, grippy tannins, rich and broad. The structure is in fact quite massive, although there is a bright layer of fruit above. Great substance here too. The style seems firm but harmonious with the necessary fruit included within the composition of the wine. Should be very good indeed, although in a very expansive style. (17-18+) points

A nice salmon-pink hue, with an element of slightly peppery red fruit on the nose. Very rich in terms of flavour, with lots of raspberry and redcurrant fruit, strawberry too, with a spicy-peppery edge. Softly textured, but lacking harmony at present. Unfocused. Nice flavours though. May integrate with more time in bottle. 14+ points

Merlot 80%, Cabernet Franc 20%. Alcohol "about 13.6%". Lovely vibrant fruit on the nose here, bright plum skin character, rich but well defined. The palate has a very bold style, firm, and showing some alcoholic heat. Certainly quite tannic, with a very chewy extraction. Rather under-fruited for the level of extraction and alcohol though. This doesn't appeal. (14-15+) points

Previously simply Belair. A Moueix wine now. Rather dark and slightly smoky fruit here, and on the palate a supple style, quite fleshy, with good supporting acidity at the core. Ripe and well balanced tannins, supple and appropriate, although giving a very good backbone. Supple fruit. This is a very good style with plenty of well honed structure for the future. Tasted at the Ban du Millésime in Bordeaux. A mature hue, and dark, slightly inky, meaty fruit on the nose. Certainly appealing, with tea leaf aroma. Fresh on the palate, supple fruit, meaty, with some peppery midpalate tannins. Good substance here, and a freshness behind it too. There is still more to come from this wine, although it is approachable now. And it is rather attractive with it. My only issues are that it does seem to lack a good framework in the mouth, seeming rather loose-knit at present. It may come together more with time, but I'm not sure. 16.5+ points

A dark and concentrated layer of fruit on the nose, sweet and somewhat confit in character, but very dark. Rather bold alcohol on the palate, firmly structured, piles of grippy tannins and extract here, although it does have good acidity too. It has a good presence of grip at least, but to my palate the whole package tastes a little overdone. (15-16+) points

Very tight lemony fruit, leanly presented, on the nose here. Good substance on the palate though. An understated style, polished with supple stone-lemon fruit, firm and with a crisp acid structure. Lovely potential here, and this will certainly benefit from time in the cellar. 16.5+ points

The second wine of Issan, this is 62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Merlot, 48% of the harvest and with alcohol 13.4% and IPT 64. Very bright, glossy but lean, paling rim, pink-blue. Very classically styled nose, attractive and slightly gritty-grainy, oak-tinged but certainly juicy plum-cherry fruit. Elegant style on entry, well polished, quite reserved in character. Quite juicy, but on the stony side of supple in terms of feel in the mouth. Ripe tannins although they provide good backbone, and sit very well with the fruit. Fresh, attractive, fresh but not lean. A very good second wine in the elegant side of the spectrum. (16-17) points

Lot number L005004 (printed on the neck foil). This wine is a blend of 45% 2004, 45% 2005 and 10% reserve wines (as for the Special Cuvée) with this assemblage then augmented with 5% red wine. Disgorged October 2009. This has a lovely, peachy hue and a restrained, stony nose. Very elegant yet quite substantial sense to the palate, broad, with a fleshy substance, but also composed and well delineated. There is style and savoir-faire in spades here. Delicious wine. 17+ points

Lot number L002601 (printed on the neck foil). This wine is a blend of 45% 2004, 45% 2005 and 10% reserve wines. Disgorged September 2009. The nose is clean, rather reserved, showing gently polished fruit. Good structure to the palate, with a stylish definition around some good substance. A crisp mousse, fine, and good balance overall. Very good. The Special Cuvée really is an excellent buy these days. 17+ points

Boyd-Cantenac is not a property I am at all familiar with. This maturing example has a good character on the nose refelcting the wine's ten years, with notes of dark but rusty fruit, sprinkled with the aromas of brown tea leaves. It certainly shows signs of maturity. On the palate it is supple, with gently plump fruit. Good substance though, quite full and spicy-peppery, with soft acids but a nice tannic backbone. Lacks some definition but certainly gives some pleasure. Good, and ready now. 15 points
