A warm style of fruit here on the nose, lacking a little freshness and definition for me. The fruit feels a little stretched, and there is some volatility too. The palate is soft in terms of fruit substance, but bold and hard in terms of composition, the dark fruits set against a wall of early midpalate tannins. There is a very chewy, mouth-coating tannic substance running through the wine, so plenty of bite here, but with a sort of gamey, plum and chocolate flavour to it. The tannins are harder in the finish second time around. I liked this more as a barrel sample. 15 points

A really pretty nose here, a delight after some other more fudgy, over-ripe and over-extracted wines. Red fruits to the fore, but in a confident and elegant style, and not one that suggests leanness or lack of substance. The palate has a lot of polished flesh to it, supple and weighty, with creamy character truth be told. But in the midpalate that structure wells up, the perfume erupts, and the wine shows really appealing character. This has come together really nicely, and has plenty of confidence and form. Long, slightly savoury, and convincing. 17 points

A nicely composed nose, the oak attractive and not overwhelming the fruit here at all. The fruit itself has a slightly macerated edge to it but otherwise it feels well defined and has some purity. The palate has good substance on the start, and an appealing composition. There is grip here, through the middle to the end, but the fruit has enough presence to cope. Nice acid backbone too. Overall an elegantly composed wine, grippy and firm perhaps, but a success all the same. 16.5 points

Some charming and confident aromatics here, with scents of well-defined red fruits with some lightly applied oak. The palate starts off rather soft and supple, perhaps even a little low key, but there is an elegant composure to it; there is a delicate red fruit character which appeals, and the tannins seem appropriate for this character. An elegant and composed wine which should come together nicely given time. 16.5 points

A more crunchy, brighter and slightly perfumed character to the fruit on the nose here. I find a slightly bold character on entry, a firm structure showing at the start, but with a nice character to the wine in terms of texture and its elegant, rather restrained and moderate substance. An appealing fruit character in the finish though. Overall, supple and appealing. Well done. 16 points

A dark fruit character to the nose here, still with the smell of new barrels lingering behind. It seems complete, understated though, not really shouting about anything. That is perhaps surprising as the palate has a confident texture, a harmonious start to it, and through the middle it retains this elegant presence despite revealing fine and grainy tannins and some fresh, lifting acidity. It all seems nicely composed and complete. A much better showing than my tasting earlier this year. 17 points

The nose here is expressive, characterful, with open fruit tinged with smoky, sooty sweetness, showing more oak than I find in many other wines. The palate is impressive, the fruit here showing the texture you might expect from the nose, but is a touch darker, deeper, more grainy in style. This works very well with the structure of the wine which is firm, solid but well covered by the rest of the wine, only showing through in the finish. A really good effort here. 17 points

The usual nose here, the fruit baked and lacking freshness, with a gamey edge to it that to me speaks of over-ripeness at harvest time, a character which seems to mark out the wines of this property. Rather reminiscent of chocolate and black cherry gateau more than wine. It also seems bold and warm. The palate is soft, creamy, plushly textured of course, with a wide belt of chewy tannins running around the outside of the rather hot fruit. Plenty of grip, punch and warmth here if you like the style. A rather different impression from that formed at the primeurs. 13 points

A smoky and lightly nutty nose here, far more restrained than the exuberant, brilliantly perfumed barrel sample I tasted four years ago. The palate is supple and confident at the start, well defined, with an upright frame for the fruit which runs through onto the midpalate. This has a very well structured middle, fresh and with good grip and substance. Although it might not be as expressive as it was during the primeurs this wine has all the definition and shape that I recall and it should be very fine with appropriate age. Restrained but also assured. 18.5 points

A very distinctive nose here, but that's Climens for you I guess. There is botrytis richness, but it comes though in a very precise and pointed fashion, with notes of citrus zest over an almond cream, with nuances of almonds, but it is that bright, incisive citrus character than dominates. The palate is soft and approachable despite this, very fat and corpulent, with a very broad substance filling out the mouth. There are chalky tinges but otherwise it has a great sense of citrus-infused sweetness. And the finish is bright and long. There should be some good botrytis development here, and the wine has the structure needed to keep it fresh. Very good. 17.5 points

A very dark fruit-concentrate on the nose here, very rich, with the fruit dominating the oak. The palate is rich and very supple, the front of the wine having a creamy presence, then through the middle a little more structure showing up but still with a very broad blanket of fruit laid over the top. The substance of the wine is impressive, the structure grainy and well formed, and it persists well into the finish as well. A very impressive wine indeed. 18 points

An attractive character on the nose here, dark and yet perfumed, with a slightly brooding vein of sooty intensity running down the middle of it. The palate has a supple start, and it remains rather fleshy and light through the middle, which is surprising considering the character on the nose. An attractive if rather light wine, in terms of spirit and substance. 15 points

A really appealing, attractive and open nose here, full of defined dark fruit character with a seam of oak running underneath, behind the fruit. It is dark, smoky, slightly sooty and convincing. This is followed by a beautifully supple and attractive, cream-tinged texture on the palate to start with, one that sits very well with the grip and acid of the wine which shows up in the middle of the palate. To some extent the structure is a touch dry, but overall effect is very good. Lots of grip and punch here. A very attractive wine, muscular but not overdone. 18 points

Very fine, concentrated, chalk-tinged sweet fruit here, mango, tangerine and other citrus fruits, also some fresh apricot (rather than the heady apricot of botrytis). These aromas suggest concentration with a hint of desiccation, with only moderate sense of botrytis. This comes through in that apricot character, with little hints of barley sugar and a very light seam of pale caramel. The palate is soft, moderately textured, with a broad presence which doesn't feel entirely filled out by the substance of the wine. Fairly sweet, but with a fairly savoury grip to it as well. Good acidity running underneath it all, bringing a bright citrus freshness to it. A lighter style. Good though. 15.5 points

This has rather a sandy and nutty character on the nose here, which makes sense to me considering the location of the estate within the commune. The palate feels very soft and diffuse, with a supple and also rather light character. There is a subtle grip to it, as well as a slightly sour-fruit acidity. The texture and weight are certainly low key here, the flavours rather muted also. 14.5 points

Dense, with dark fruit and smoky oak on the nose, very different within the confines of the commune in this tasting. Some reduction on this sample which makes it hard to assess. A supple palate, polished, nicely composed, quite elegant in fact. The style is elegantly polished and yet the fruit is upright and slightly spicy. The tannins themselves are very finely done. There is certainly some good potential here. 17.5 points

Some rather restrained fruit character on the nose here, although in this commune sometimes I think it is quite easy to appear 'restrained'. It's attractive though, with supple dark fruits, with a sense of freshness to them. There is a note of perfume to it as well, and a little suggestion of cream to the fruit. The palate follows on in the same vein, restrained, elegant, with middleweight texture and a supple fruit character. There is fresh acidity and a rather firm but not inappropriate tannins. Overall an attractive effort here. 15.5 points

Rather a baldly stated fruit character on the nose, with not much in the way of softness or suggestion. The palate brings some good character, along with spice and a touch of weight through the middle. With this the structure shows through though, with a very firm grip coming in through the midpalate, and it seems rather overdone for the lighter, perfumed style of fruit. There is some nice character here, although the light texture and spicy grip together feel a little incongruous. Not living up to its en primeur promises sadly. 14.5 points

A smoky fruit nose here, firmer and upright in character than I expected. I'm not getting much of the trademark greenness, although it is there to some small degree. There is still a little tinge of oak here, bringing an unusual hint of coconut to the proceedings. The palate is soft, more creamy and richer than I expected after that note of green on the nose, with a sweeter edge to the fruit than I anticipated. Polished, quite rich in fact. Very primary but could be very good indeed with time. Certainly one of the better wines here in this commune. 17.5 points

Some broad and open fruit character here, smoky and concentrated, with a slightly gamey edge to the fruit. The palate is soft, supple, creamy, with lots of texture and underneath it a pile of extracted tannins as well. There is acidity here, but a lot of other structure to it as well. Really grippy in the finish. A distinctively rich style, lacking a little fruit freshness for me, but there is still promise here. 16 points

A really appealing and confident aromatic profile here, with exuberant fruit, a gentle seam of oak, and a fresh character. It seems defined and suggests vigour. The palate is supple, polished, with some spicy fruit. The tannins have a good grip to them and show appropriately in the middle of the wine, and there is a very decent acid backbone here as well. An attractive wine, which should come together very nicely given time. 17.5 points

Dark and lightly nutty oak alongside the fruit on the nose, and plenty of impressive substance here. It is dark, fruit rich, concentrated and polished, The palate doesn't quite live up to the blockbuster expectations hinted at by the aromatics however, the start a touch diffuse and ill defined, but through the middle it comes together in a much more harmonious fashion. The fruit here is perfumed and now nicely defined, the structural elements nicely kept in check. Overall a really good wine which should come together well. 17 points

Some attractive fruit on the nose here, which is open, relaxed, confident and stylish. I find some nutty oak to be lingering here as well. I sense elegance rather than power though - not necessarily a bad thing of course. The palate has a fairly light presence in keeping with my impression of the vintage, with a supple seam of lightly crystalline fruit, and a rather firm underpinning of grippy, biting structure beneath. Good. 16.5 points

A wonderfully rich and expressive nose here, with all the fat Guiraud fruit I would hope for. Nevertheless in character it is quite dominated by citrus aromas, and this comes onto the palate a little as well, the corpulent presence in the mouth nicely cut through by a seam of orange pith. Lots of presence and substance here, although not great development in terms of botrytis, despite my feelings about the wine two years ago. There is an appealing apricot and almond tinged richness to it, but on the whole this is a wine of concentrated, desiccated fruit and pith than anything more noble. 16.5 points

Whereas many wines of this vintage seem to be showing a lighter style of fruit, with or without a layer of oak, this wine by contrast seems to be showing nothing at all. I find the aromatics on the nose to be quite non-descript. This comes through on the palate, which is just as light as other wines in this commune, but with none of the pretty fruit I would hope for. It feels soft and ill-defined on this showing, although it feels more closed down than anything more significant. Difficult to judge for that reason. (14.5-15.) points
