A vibrant red-purple hue. Good sweet, smoky and peppery cherry fruit on the nose, with notes of charred herbs. Medium bodied palate, quite lithe and balanced. Plenty of peppery fruit like the nose. Spicy tannins show nicely in the finish. A savoury, mouthfilling blend of deliciously dark fruits with fresh acidity. Very modern style though. 16.5 points

A lovely garnet red of moderate intensity, which although fading a little at the rim does not show any real signs of age. The nose is delightful although a little confusing, as it throws up some dark, dense, almost claretty fruit with a little smoke. Meaty, slightly metallic background notes. There is a full, slightly creamy texture, much more so than I recall from my last tasting. Smoky cherry fruit on the palate. Less acidity than one might imagine. Some ripe, succulent tannins through the midpalate which serve to give only pleasure, and some nice extract too. Clean, balanced finish - some elegance in fact. Completely ready now, but may yet improve. In fact I'm quite taken aback by how little this has advanced over the past few years. 18 points

A dark hue fading to a pink, youthful rim. A lovely, herby, sweet cherry, plummy, dusty fruit nose. A very juicy, bone dry palate with typically firm, food-beating acidity. Plenty of flavour too; cherries and plums. Some nice extract present as well, and a balanced backbone of integrated tannins which coat the mouth after a while. Great, fresh, juicy, flavoursome barbecue wine. 15.5 points

Dark, almost inky hue. Quite reticent on the nose for some time, but does gradually yield some smoky, warm black fruits with a blackcurrant sharpness and a certain sootiness. Structure and balance on the palate. The Cabernet seems dominant, offering a little cigar-laced fruit alongside the dry tannic backbone and acidity. Lean in texture but with a modicum of style. This grows on you. Early on in its drinking window and really needs further bottle age; will go for five to eight years in the cellar. 16.5+ points

A deep, inky red-black hue, still showing some youth. A warm and open nose, with lovely ripe berry, smoke and black pepper notes from this 100% Syrah cuvee. The palate follows in a similar vein; ripe, full of extract with spicy, dark berry fruit. Soft and ample texture, underpinned and plenty of structure and sharp acids. Firm, dry tannic finish with a little length. There is good potential here. Drink over the next ten years (and beyond I suspect). 16.5+ points

The first half bottle from a case purchased at the domaine. Very youthful, obviously. Clean hue. A beautiful Chenin nose, dominated by primary aromas of honey, fresh green apples and wet wool, with a mineral edge. With some air the caramel aromas come through. Rich, weighty, absolutely beautifully assembled palate. Clean and vibrant, crystalline honey, pineapple and stone. Pure and elegant, fresh, but with an oily richness. Fabulous. Drink over the next two decades, and beyond I suspect. 18.5+ points

Bottled under screwcap. Correct colour. Pleasing lime fruit nose, with a sherbetty, wet-stone sideline. Clean fruit and a full, almost oily, texture on the palate. Sharp lime edge behind a full, fruity weight. Nice sharp finish with a flourish of leafy green fruit. Quite grippy here, and a little length. Good, but would probably improve with some cellar time. 14+ points

Deep, almost inky colour. Toasty blackcurrant fruit nose, with a juicy character, and a touch of pencil lead. The palate is soft and rounded, with a sweet plumpness and gentle acidity. Quite a bit of oak evident here too, with blackcurrant and damson fruit. Nice chewy tannins from midpalate onwards. An approachable, fruit and oak dominated style. Drink over the next two to three years. 14.5+ points

A good, ripe colour for a Chablis. And a lovely ripe fruit nose as well. Not typical, but with delightful tropical-edged, crystalline fruits. A full, flavoursome palate, with a melon edge to the fruit here. Oily and fat, yet with a very fresh, balanced feel. Super acidity. Overall very approachable. Excellent use of the appellation, even if it diverges from the region's classic style. Drink now. 16 points

The subsequent vintage has a good depth of colour also. Similarly styled nose; crystalline white fruits, with a sense of rounded plumpness. Lovely presence of fruit on the palate, and it does indeed have a delightful ripe fatness to the texture. Acidity just slightly lower than one might expect, reflecting the ripe vintage, but it has appropriate balance. Not classic, but it gives great pleasure. 16 points

Still has a remarkably good colour which shows only early maturity. The nose takes hours to open out, eventually yielding mature aromas of smoked meat and baked fruit, with a dusty edge. Initially a little lean and foursquare, it develops weight and texture as the nose opens. Medium bodied, good style, minerally, meaty fruit. Clearly a little awkward at present, and certainly not as approachable as it seemed on last tasting; decant for several hours if drinking now. Although I think I will leave mine for a couple of years before broaching another. 16+ points

Showing some maturity here. Good colour, bricking a little at the rim. Mature, gravelly, sweet perfumed fruit on the nose. A touch metallic. Big, full, sweet palate, with piles of fruit and plenty of tannin. Correct acidity. Showing some development but will improve for an impressive five to ten years yet. 17.5+ points

Red purple hue, very dense. Mature, earthy perfumed nose. The palate is truly very impressive; packed with sweet, maturing, claretty fruit. Soft and ripe tannins, correct acidity. Great grip in the finish. Classic style. Needs five years cellar time as a minimum. 17.5+ points

Lovely colour, showing maturity at the rim. Quite a spirity nose though, alongside notes of autumnal fruits. Well composed palate, not quite seamless, with well balanced fruit and soft tannins, but that spirity note again. Certainly showing some attractive maturity, but didn't benefit from being poured straight after opening I think; it amazes me that the winemaker would want to show his wines in this way. May well show less spirit and more subtle complexities with some decanter time, and would warrant a higher score. 15.5 points

Good colour. Much less oak evident here when compared with the Barbera. Much more classic style on the nose and palate, with dark fruit, firm tannins and classic texture. Nevertheless there is still an oak influence here, but at the sort of level that would integrate as this wine matures. Still some puppy fat to be shed here, but there is potential. Should improve over the next eight to ten years. 15.5+ points

Deep colour. Very international style indeed, full of black fruits with obvious oak influence. The characteristics found on the nose persist on the palate, which has low acidity together with a soft, round, slightly soupy mouthfeel, evident oak and ripe fruit. I'm not in favour of this barrique-influenced international style which could be Australian rather than Italian. 13 points

Delightful nose, full of ripe character, with capsicum and green vegetable notes. Full, mouthfilling style, laden with ripe vegetable and fruit notes on the palate, balanced by fairly crisp acidity. Good weight for this variety. A success. 16 points

The first bottle was corked. The next showed a good colour, with some maturity at the rim, but not great density. Sand and cedar on the nose at first, then a little blackcurrant fruit with a mature, meaty edge. Medium bodied, showing a little flesh, but overall somewhat lean, and to be honest lacking in charm. Prominent structure, insufficient fruit or texture, but after a long time in the decanter (a day) things improved. It showed more black fruit, a little more texture and good balance. 14.5 points

Rich colour that suggests botrytis influence, and this is confirmed on the nose by characteristic aromas. Rich, balanced, honey-edged palate, again showing plenty of botrytis. Fairly low acidity gives the wine an opulent feel, although acid is a touch on the low side. Nevertheless it has freshness, and quince, lemon, orange-peel and apricot flavours abound. Delicious, soft and seductive stuff. Drink over the next ten years. 17+ points

Deep, dark colour although paling at the rim. Mature fruit, elegant, rich dark and spicy. A bit of green pepper and five spice here. Full, rich, dark and earthy palate. Good firm acidity, a little drying tannin just in the finish. A deep wealth of mature fruit. More of the Oriental spices found on the nose. Lovely. 17 points

Very deep colour here with little sign of significant age. Intensely perfumed, minerals and smoke, flower petals and meat. Brilliant, classic style. Full, powerful palate. Sweet edged fruit, ripe tannins giving a firm structure, especially in the finish. Plenty of spice. Delicious wine with potential. Drink over the next ten years. 18+ points

A vibrant, surprisingly youthful, glossy and homogenous colour. A wonderful treacle toffee nose on a background of maturing dark fruits. Splendid! Pure, glossy, deep and rich on the palate. Burnt fruit, smoke and minerals. Great texture. Rounded, firm, still with a tannic backbone, but very approachable now. Fabulous, interesting, expressive and yet elegant wine. 18.5+ points

Good colour here. Very closed at first, but it reluctantly yields aromas of ripe black cherry and violet-perfumed fruit. The palate shows great structure, with some firm tannin and correct acidity, and a medium weight. Fairly typical mouthfeel, a little austere in its youth, but this will fade as the wine blossoms in the cellar. Piles of tannin on the finish. Needs five to seven years further bottle age at present. 16+ points
