Crisp Apple on the palate with sort of Cucumber. So clean and precise. Saline, limestone. Minerals. Citrus. This has it all. Balance, poise, depth, complexity. Super long finish. Lasted 60+ seconds. It wasn’t oxidized or a cork taint, rather fully stunted aromatically. Very similar to what happens when you leave a bottle in the food fridge for too long - kills any primary or otherwise wafty aromas (was expecting honey, butter popcorn, and hazelnut here). Left a tart and acidic body as well. Will just say that I’m not convinced this bottle wasn’t fake - there were bits of cork in the bottle despite a fully intact cork and I had a nasty inflammatory reaction the next morning… Do you find this review helpful? Not the typical Meursault opulence, instead this is refined, pure, fresh, lovely and multi layered. Beautiful evolving palate of lemons, lightest smoke, acid, fresh light herbs, extremely elegant mouthfeel and always changing sip to sip. Much more open than the bottle enjoyed summer 2023, and surprisingly mature for its relatively young age, village level or no. No signs of decline but rather probably at or very near its peak, I can see this going the way of thin, bruised apple if not stored perfectly in the coming years. When the Somm poured the one ounce taste, didn’t even need to. Aged white burg at its finest from 02 Charmes, still incredibly youthful and vibrant with captivating aromatics of spiced orchard fruit, toasted hazelnuts and butterscotch that comes in waves, and the palate is expansive, textural and stunningly complex, both rich and refined with a silky, crystalline mineral finish. Quite a signature Lafon nose and feel although the vintage is usually less full and concentrated so I'll say despite the wine having a relatively full body but likely it's going to be lighter than other vintages. Took at least an hour to open up thus I think it will have plenty of life ahead of it and there's definitely no rush to finish up this one. Drink: 2030+ Rating: 92 Do you find this review helpful? Very good combination of fullness and stone fruits here in this Desiree. In my mind this is what old styled Meursault should be like. This aroma is quite amazing but I guess the village status has some limitations thus the palate slows down after a while and is unable to match the nose. White	2021 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Charmes Chardonnay more	Options Post a Comment View TWSA's profile Report Issue 4/8/2024 - TWSA Does not like this wine: 88 points Nose: guava, banana, white flower, hints of jackfruit Notes: I personally think that 2021 whites, despite the critics and winemakers repeatedly claiming this to be a classic Burgundy vintage, is simply a marketing stunt trying to cover the weakness of the vintage to justify the ridiculous price increments. Comtes Lafon is usually a Domaine I enjoy with great body structure and fullness yet I find this to be rather lean and lacks any meaningful substance I find in most other vintages. Charmes being a rich and heavy wine somehow is showing plenty of leaness here and both the nose and palate are quite unbalanced. I can't say I like this wine. It doesn't seem like there's much potential here although I think there could be a longer cellaring for this to improve. Drink: 2027+ Rating: 88 Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comment

I normally associate Lafon with the archetypal creamy silky balanced style of white Burgundy we know and love. On the nose, this appeared to promise just that and too on the beginning of the palate but towards the finish, it was interrupted with an (in my opinion) unwelcomed acidity. I can't believe this Village has ten years under it's belt... I see another tasting note here stating "finishes with a good zip". I think this is what I experienced but for me spoiled what I was hoping to be that traditional White Burgundy finish. Perhaps this is in style with the 2014 vintage? I am definitely used to drinking the younger solar vintages of 18, 19 & 20. Is this what fans of cooler White Burgundy vintages refer to as freshness? Still an enjoyable bottle which mellowed out towards the end of the meal but I think this has a lot of life left...I can't imagine this is how Dominque would have wanted it to drink. White	2019 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières Chardonnay more	Options Post a Comment View TWSA's profile Report Issue 4/6/2024 - TWSA Likes this wine: 92 points Nose: corn, jackfruit, caramel, passion fruit, mango, brioche, yellow flowers, nutty Notes: it has always been a pleasure to taste the fullness of Lafon yet being very balanced and satisfying. The nose is full of tropical fruits mixed with creamy brioche. Full of intensity and so rich. The fatness and fullness of Lafon has always been something attractive for me and I continue to believe that despite the recent trend of producing lean Meursualts Lafon still kept its traditional style and continues to produce the style I enjoy.
