2022 Domaine Ricard Touraine Le Petit BlancSauvignon Blanc more |
2/2/2024 - wmjarrell wrote: 85 pointsA young wine obviously, but it reads like a wine that's past its prime. Timid aromas of apricot and passionfruit. Palate shows more apricot and gentle florals; clean, almost watery. Extremely light-bodied. A bit insipid, but in no way offensive. Don't hold, drink yesterday. |

12/26/2023 - Clemster wrote: NRAs in nearby Sancerre, 2020 was the seventh in a succession of excellent vintages, which, along with 2018, was one of only two in the last five years that was not marked by disastrous springtime frost. And despite the challenges of a shortage of labor, and that the vineyard and winery workers were required to “socially distance,” it was a generous harvest, which, following a particularly stingy 2019, was welcomed by the growers. The bright-sunlit green-gold Touraine “?” comes from a steep, south-facing parcel of sand and flint that was planted in 1947. In a generous vintage, the old Sauvignon Blanc vines yield just 25 hectoliters per hectare. The wine ferments and matures for a total of eighteen months in a mix of 50% new, and 50% one and two-year-old 400-liter barrels. The wood contributes a lovely creamy texture to the wine, but nothing to distract from the aromas of Seckel pear, grapefruit oil, white cranberries, and crème fraîche in the nose, or the mineral-seasoned white nectarines, kaffir lime, and crystallized buckwheat honey on the palate. This one is another towering achievement; not outsized, but perfect, which the French wine journal, La Revue du Vin de France, once included in a short list of the greatest white wines of France (along with a few Puligny-Montrachets, Meursaults, and a Condrieu). Drink now–2030. |

2022 Domaine Ricard Touraine Les Trois ChênesSauvignon Blanc more |
12/10/2023 - Clemster wrote: NR“Les Trois Chênes” comes from a tiny south-facing parcel of silex and sand that was planted by Vincent Ricard’s grandfather in 1947. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, with strict selection in the vineyard and winery, and are barrel-fermented, then matured in used 400-liter barrels for eight months. The 75-year-old vines, and the long maturation in neutral barrels with frequent batonnage result in the wine’s creamy, pillowy texture: a rounder and fuller counterpoint to racy Sancerre. But the wood never distracts from the aromas of ripe forelle pears, white peaches, and buckwheat honey that sometimes alternate with fleeting suggestions of blanched almonds, dried parsley, jasmine, and crème fraîche, as the nose evolves in the glass. On the palate, the briny, sea salt-seasoned flavors of ruby grapefruit, satsuma oranges and lavender are interwoven with firmly hewn salty silex minerality |

12/7/2023 - Clemster wrote: NRLe Petiot is hand-harvested Sauvignon Blanc from low-yield (35hl/ha), biodynamically farmed vineyards. This limpid, pale yellow-green wine unfurls gradually with aromas of white flowers, kaffir-lime leaves, and lemongrass trading places with apricots, pink grapefruit, and especially fresh fennel as the nose evolves over time. On the palate, the texture is silky chiffon, with exotic citrus flavors seasoned with wild thyme, anise, and herbal sea salt, while the refreshing, mineral-driven finish lingers forever |

Lifted with a slight vanilla accent from the oak, certainly not overtly oaky, however. A slight phenolic bitterness at the end prevents it from being cloying, leaving a mineral stony finish. |

4/21/2023 - SommthingToBelieve Likes this wine: 90 pointsApricot, honeysuckle, straw, and white peach. Palate adds tons of minerality—wet slate, limestone. Medium body, medium acidity. Pleasant enough, but missing a bit of energy and focus. Shorter finish with more mineral notes. |

2/12/2023 - oldwines Likes this wine: 91 pointsSeveral Coravin pours. Not sure what the mix of grapes in this blend are but I would guess some Cab Franc and Pinot Noir are among them. But if my translation of the producer’s website is correct, this is actually 100% Côt, the local name (and perhaps the original name) for a red grape that is actually Malbec. It is a medium to dark ruby-crimson. The nose is floral, slightly spicy and red berry fruited. The palate has distinct under-ripe red berry and plum flavors, all slightly tart. There is little tannin and plenty of acidity. It definitely shows as a cool climate wine. I didn’t get the raisin and funk that the previous taster noted. Pleasant if unusual wine though. Good with any manner of strong flavored food. |
