From a 750ml bottle purchased at retail. This is the real deal, with glass-coating concentration of red over black fruits and showing notes of chocolate-covered black cherries and toast, ripe tannins, and perfect acidity. The oak treatment is quite moderate, and the tannins are soft, making this more than approachable at this stage—it’s actually quite drinkable and very enjoyable if you are one who can enjoy very young wines. I have a case and now plan to buy a few more bottles to drink in the nearer term. I don’t have room in the cellar as is, but for this wine I will clear out some trash and store the lesser stuff badly at home if I have to. Wow. I came back to this on day seven, after putting the balance in a 375ml bottle and vacuum sealing it, and it had not lost a thing. The per-bottle case price at my local retailer is $45/bottle, making the QPR amazingly good.

I try not to give numerical scores to wines this young (just descriptors and star ratings), but this is so open and readable, I’m going to give numerical scores reflecting the current experience. 13.5% ABV (great; distinguished/****/18/95)

Decanted 2 hours - a great wine, but not excellent until the last glass. I should note that my wife absolutely loved the wine from the first sip. Next time, will decant for 4 hours which might do the trick. Not much fruit left but some berries detected. It was silky and did feel higher in acid, but that didn't take away from the wine itself. Overall, I was expecting more. I don't feel like the wine is going to develop further, but I think this will last another 5 years or so.

Spectacular. The ‘05 vintage provides this Lagrange with elevated quality. Round, balanced, and complex. Can’t wait to try more Bordeaux from this year.

Colour: deep garnet.
Tannins: high.
Acid: high.
Texture: velvety.
Finish: long.

Aromas: sour cherry, leather, slightly earthy, and floral (violets and roses).

This was pretty good, but not for the price. Day 1 it only showed graphite, leather, earth, etc, with barely any fruit. Day 2 had a tiny bit of fruit, but I couldn't tell whether this needs more time, or if it's just not going to get there.

Two hour decant helped this bottle a lot. Drinks nicely with tertiary aromas there but not dominating. A clean, classic bdx with cassis, cedar, tar and leather. Drinks now with air but will also develop/improve from here.

This bottle followed a rich fruit forward CA cab and this first seemed a bit too restrained and retiring. In time it was clear the first bottle was clouding the perceptions of the wine. We discovered this was a good expression of a classic Bordeaux. The fruits were blended with light smoke, vanilla and minerals. Tannins were completely tamed and smooth.

I can claim no expertise in scoring here, but I've had enough aged Bordeaux to know that this is a good one. The cork disintegrated on the way out, but the wine was untarnished. 1 hr decant. Lovely floral notes on the nose, and all of the classic tertiary notes that one would look for in an old Bordeaux, while still retaining a some fruity notes. Soft and delicate with age, but still showing solid tannic structure and power after 34 years. Only missing the length of aromatic finish of higher end wines. Excellent value for aged Bordeaux. Highly recommended.

Tobacco, minty, licorice, dry plum, leather, violet, raspberry seed. Bottle decanted and drink through 5hrs. Delicious and complex, great value in such high quality. Love it!

Deep ruby, opaque in the center, with some bricking on the rim, showing its age. There is still some translucent rim despite it being 19 years old. There are some legs as well.

On the nose, quite a beautiful bouquet with a great mix of earthy and fruity notes. Leather, wet earth, tobacco, forest floor, some cocoa and peppercorns, black currants, blackberries, cedar, and black plums. There is also some greenness to this in bell peppers. This is quite complex and elegant.

On the palate, tannins are somewhat resolved but it is still somewhat astringent. Medium bodied, with a great mix of leathery and black fruit notes, similar to the nose, and are balanced with the upfront acidity, with a medium plus spicy finish.

Complex and elegant, this is drinking very nicely.

Grabbed another bottle of the 2005 from an open OWC as I was in a hurry and did not know what else to open for dinner at home. At least had a chance to give this for once a fairly long 2h decant. The extensive air did however not deliver any significant improvement over my earlier pnp bottles. This is a solid medium bodied left bank Bdx but just a bit underwhelming in terms of depth for what should have been an extraordinary vintage also at Lagrange. Consistent 91.

This wine is dark purple in color. Decanted for an hour. Wet stone on the nose. Blackberry across the palate. As it finishes, it’s slate and hints of vanilla. Great acidity and tannins. It’ll be good for another decade. Later in the evening, a bit more character with added layers of herbs and stone.

Mid ruby, bricking. Given some air, then lovely. Classic really. Blackcurrant and some blackberry. Cedar. Some mild spices. Great acidity and real lively freshness. Decent length. Very elegant. Some kept for a second night didn't fare quite so well but the first night was lovely, hence 92.

This one showed his beauty once again. If you get a well stored bottle you'll be surprised about the freshness. Nobody on the table would have guessed that they had a 35 year-old Lagrange in their glass. Dark colored, dark fruits on the nose - needs some air to develope the aromas. Fresh and well structured on the palate, medium length. Very good. 94 pts.

After a 3 hour decant this wine impressed and just got better afterwards. Round, silky tannins, intense black fruits followed by subtle to moderate spices on long finish.
Looking forward to tasting this for many years to come.

Still hugely tanic with a closed nose after a 90 minute decant....needs much more time. There is enough fruit to last 10 years.

Decanted for 3 hours, rudy red, outstanding nose, wonderful fruits with good structure although could be a little tighter. long lasting waves of cassis, rasperry, cedar, currants, almonds. Super fine tannins wonderfully balanced with aciditiy. Super long finish. really great wine. At Pnp just not ready, and even at 2 hours. One bottle left, keep until at least 2023!

An uplifting nose. Delivers pleasure on the nose and palate. Some oily brick wall notes. Ends with a tinge of mocha with caramel.
