2007 Domaine Paul Autard Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée La Cote Ronde (France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape) 1/18/2010AMM3RD94

94 Pts. This wine is drinking super right now and will improve over the next 5-10+ years. Drank out of a decanter over 3+ hours. Nose started tight and then developed white pepper and dark red fruit essence. Mouth feel is silky and smooth with a finish that lasts for 1min+. Dark red fruits and spice. Raspberries, Cassis, Nutmeg all on a Medium bodied frame, with nice acidity. This is a wine for new and old world fans alike. This is a QPR steal vs anything in Napa, Bordeaux, or Burgundy at the price point. Rhone does it again...AMM (630 views)

Nice--needed more time decanted, but was getting progressively better throughout evening. (719 views)

I like this wine a lot. It is much more forward than the '07 Vieux Telegraphe, but I'm assuming that's the case every year. It is 15% alcohol and the first few sips were hot but the wine settled down into a beautiful, balanced, spicy, classy effort featuring lots of pepper and spice, ripe raspberries, and just the perfect hint of earthiness to give it a very interesting character. Medium bodied, lovely deep ruby color. Very smooth and easy on the palate. Bravo! It's not cheap, I bought four bottles at $49 apiece, but this wine is getting harder and harder to find on the shelves of U.S. retailers. (993 views)

Nose: Rosemary, blueberries, black pepper, kirsch, tobacco, black tea, coffee, strawberries. Had to work a little to pick up these aromas, as the nose is fairly tight at this point. Palate: Blueberries, cherries, strawberries, on the attack. Very rich. Sarsaparilla and black tea on the mid-palate, giving way to grippy tannins. Good supporting acid. Has all the makings of a blockbuster, but its a little shy right now. Hold off. (1377 views)

2007 Chateauneuf tasting at Beltramos: Slightly ripe nose, big, deep, lush, cali-like. 50/50 syrah/grenache. Decent wine, but I can buy wines like this from California. (1516 views)

Solid, with good concentration and some decent fruit, but a bit dark, closed in and tasting of wood. Drank alongside a Clarendon Hills Romas OV Grenache, which is not a wine that is generally to my taste, but the Clarendon Hills beat this out on the fun scale. (1793 views)

"Anniversary" Weekend at Rob & Lisa's; 5/29/2009-6/1/2009 (Scott's Valley, CA): Wow! That's what I thought at my first glass of this stuff. So much vibrant fruit and acid while still remaining insanely balanced and complex throughout the glass and the bottle. In terms of specifics, I can't add much to what the previous taster described. It only improved as the air really took it and these aromatics and flavors really came into their own. Still to young to really show all it had to offer, but this is going to be a real stunner in the next 5 years or so. At $40 it is a steal of a CdP. (2315 views)

The wine was decanted and poured. This is the first experience with an '07 CdP and it did not disappoint. The bouquet shows a complex mix of grilled granite, smoke, fire pit, raspberry, black currant, spice and meat notes. The bouquet is big and expressive without being overbearing. The color is dark purple that is opaque and youthful. The palate shows outstanding texture, depth, weight and balance. At this stage the wine is youthful and intense. This wine will benefit from 3 to 5 years of bottle age and drink in its prime at 7 to 10 years of age. Based on the showing of this wine, tasting other '07 CdP when as they become available will be a great pleasure. (2291 views)
