The cuvée “Chaupin” is an unblended Grenache wine, with a 14 months maturation in barriques (30 percent – ¼ new) and in vat (70 percent). Upon opening, there was no much nose to speak of, and the palate was completely covered by thick jammy fruit. After about four hours in the decanter, it opened up very nicely, with an intense purple-black color and a really explosive nose of cassis fruit, licorice, incense, lavender and sweet cherries. Sumptuous, superbly concentrated but fruit driven palate with great depth and balance and well behaved tannins. Lengthy, complex finish, with lots of spicy and Mediterranean elements. Extremely well drinkable for being so young (after decant), but with great potential for improvement. I would leave it alone for three-four years.

De cuvée “Chaupin” is een zuivere Grenache-wijn, die een rijping meekreeg van 14 maanden, 30 percent op barriques (1/4 nieuw) en 70 percent op roestvrij staal. Zeer bescheiden neus bij opening van de fles, en de smaak werd volledig gedomineerd door dik, “jammy” fruit. Na een viertal uur in de decanteerkaraf, een totaal andere, mooi open gebloeide wijn van een intens zwartpurperen kleur en met een bijzonder explosieve neus van cassis, zoethout, wierrook, lavendel en rijpe kers. Weelderige, zeer geconcentreerde maar ook zeer fruitige smaak, met perfect versmolten tannines , een immense diepgang en dito balans. Extreem lange en complexe afdronk met heel wat kruidige en mediterrane elementen. Ondanks zijn jeugd is deze wijn nu al buitengewoon goed drinkbaar (na decanteren), maar hij heeft alleszins nog een geweldig ontwikkelingspotentieel. Ik zou hem zeker nog drie-vier jaar kelderrust gunnen. (791 views)

I guess I just like this wine .....lots of complexity and layers, fig, tar, spices, tropical fruit intermixed with the tannins, long finish a bit hot and alch shows through nose of spice ans sweet fruits ...from the nose you know it is good (966 views)

Nez très réglissé, un mélange d’anis et de mûres, moins complexe que les Garrigues à ce stade mais plus puissant. La bouche montre une qualité de texture impressionante et il y a un fruit magnifique qui cache des tanins de grande qualité. Cette rondeur, la gourmandise du fruit, alliées à une solide colonne vertébrale en font un Chaupin d’anthologie. Il me rappelle 1998 en jeunesse mais je le crois supérieur. Nez de kirsch, plus fruit rouge que noir (ce qui m’étonne), avec passablement de garrigue, de la viande grillée.

La bouche montre une texture épaisse, le vin est dense et concentré mais maintient un bon équilibre tanins/fruit/alcool avec une acidité adéquate. Il y a de l’alcool bien sûr en fin de bouche mais rien de trop agressant pour qui est habitué aux équilibres typiques de la région en jeunesse. Et puis surtout, il y a ce fruit gourmand et pur, style confiture de mûres, à peine caché derrière de bons tanins. Il a aussi une certaine minéralité intrigante et plutôt rare.

Moins précoce qu’à mon souvenir, il se boit assez bien mais se montre compact et un peu fermé, confirmant qu’une moyenne garde serait bénéfique. Il gagne en précision après quelques heures d’aération. Moins fin que la cuvée Vieilles Vignes, c’est un très beau Chaupin pour qui aime le style de la maison. (1523 views)

Bright jammy raspberry fruit in the glass. A hint of spice too. Jammy red fruits on the palate followed by some black pepper and licorice. Hot and alcoholic on the finish. Not for me. (1806 views)

Purchased as my first bottle of 07 CdP. I had a feeling I would not be a fan of the ripe vintage and I was correct. 15.5% alcohol and noticeable heat. Fleshy core of fresh red fruit, at times a bit like wild cherry candy, dark and brooding, smoky. Not my kind of wine as I prefer the less ripe vintages more and more. (2462 views)

I had very high expectations from this wine and it delivered a big impressive wine but we all picked the 07 vieux donjon as better wine with a 4 different game dinners - great food selection for these CdPs
openned at 2p left standing , decanted at resturant and drank around 630p
massive dark color very rich, great spicy nose and a little heat
huge mouth full of spice, one of the most spicy wines i can remember but matched well with the grilled,herb rubbed ostrich I had

Grenache Smackdown (Wally's, Arlington Heights): nose: real sexy purity on the nose with well balanced tones of red licorice, red fruits, red cherries and red currants. Excellent balance with good depth, but seems to be holding back a bit though it has good purity to it

taste: very young and pure medium feel with good tones of red fruits, red cherries, and red currants. Has a lot of polish, but not enough depth and seems to be a bit too slick on the palate

overall: a disappointment. When I tasted it out of the bottle, it came across as having more depth and a real sexy style to it. While this didn't come across as simple by any means, there was a lack of depth on it at this time and came across as extremely young (3037 views)
