Uncorked DK does 2007 Chateauneuf-du-Pape (Aarø & Co): Very dark red. Extremely intense and deep nose that tingles all the little hairs in the nose and sends a chill down my spine. Great lift. The most intense taste of the evening (which says quite a lot). In spite of its potency it remains balanced and delicious. Yet another wine sure to become 100p. (U98,9) (1420 views)

licorice and fruit pastilles melted in ethanol, with lots of sugar added. tremendously long finish of licorice, sweet grape and cherry liquor, and rather strangely, eggshells.
massive monster of a fruitbomb with numbing tannins and alcohol - hold for a decade!

Opaque purple/black in the glass. Huge nose of oak, dense black fruit, and licorice. Big and juicy on the palate, but very hot and the alcohol hits hard. Long finish with lots of glycerin. Great if you like this style. Not for me. (2555 views)

Incredibly young wine that is packed with potential. The nose is all coffee beans, rasberries and scorched earth - in the mouth great balance of fruit, acidity and tannins. For such a young wine this is actually a pleasure to driink at the moment, but really this wine just needs to sleep for 10 years before even being touched again. This will be a stonking wine in 2020. This bottle is proving that 2007 is not the vintage for my palate. After a disappointing bottle of the Chaupin, I decanted a VV for about 3 hours before dinner. A much better performance, it is rich and lush but not the candied port like experiences I have been reading about. Round core of red very ripe fruit. Still, at 15.5%ABV on the label, you can sense a bit of heat and it carries enough alcohol to make it the kind of bottle to drink much of at dinner. Despite the great pricing I got, the whole 07 Janasse haul is going back to the store. I will concentrate on the less ripe vintages that seem to be more my style. Still - if you like double D vintages, this seems to be one to stock up on. (3104 views)

Amazingly complex young wine. There's absolutely great mouthfeel and a very long aftertaste with so many flavors. I'm thrilled to see what is going to become of this wine after a decade or two. (2977 views)

2007 Southern Rhone Tasting (Bell's): Despite winning WOTN by the group, I was a bit underwhelmed by this wine. I thought the nose was full of candied fruits, and lacked the dense earthiness that some of the other bottles showed. I do think this bottle will benefit from a 10-20 years of cellaring and would love to reapproach this at a later date. (3422 views)

Grenache Smackdown (Wally's, Arlington Heights): nose: very nice nose of red fruits, red licorice, and red cherries. This is lacking some depth and is rather simple in a sense

taste: good medium feel with nice tannins and tones of red cherries, red licorice, red currants and red fruits. Doesn't have a lot of depth and is fairly simple

overall: this was a eye-opener, and not in a good way. Hard to really say what happened or if its a representative bottle, but this was simple and some did love this at the tasting. Looking at the spreadsheet, it was pretty much between those who loved this and those who felt it was non-descript (4142 views)

Only excitement! What a concentration and silky complexity. Hard not to give this the perfect score. I can hardly imagine this will ever become more enjoyable. But no doubt about it; this has potential to age. Is it worth waiting for instead of drinking it now? I wonder! One point left for ultimate perfection. (4079 views)

85% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 3% Mourvèdre, 2% autres. Âge des vignes : 60 à 100 ans. Élevage : 25 % barriques (40 % neuves), 75 % foudre.

Nez charmeur et suave de fruit noir, sur la confiture de mûres, un peu d’épices..
Quelle texture en bouche fabuleuse! On sent un élevage de qualité, certes moderne, mais pas trop appuyé, qui affine la texture mais ne laisse pas de goût de bois. J’ai reconnu le style de la cuvée Janasse Vieilles Vignes. Le vin est concentré avec des tanins d’une grande finesse, une très belle fraicheur et un coté soyeux rare dans l’appellation, qui donne à l’ensemble une élégance exceptionnelle. Absolument délicieux avec son fruit qui évoque une fine confiture de mûres, il est gourmand mais très raffiné, wow!

Black hole garnet. Nose was initially shy but gave up raspberries and garrigue with swirling (This bottle was double decanted 24 hours before this taste.) Taste was a mouthful, rich, full, mouthcoating. Berries and raspberries in the mouth. Wow! but way too young. (4770 views)
