4/23/2024 - Paul@bbott Likes this wine: 91 pointsLight garnet red, pure cherry nose that deepned to include plum over a couple of hours. Gentle tannin and acidity, lovely cherry in the mouth, good to go from half bottle, will keep a few years though. |

4/15/2024 - NickA Likes this wine: 92 pointsAnother 2004 horizontal (Hawksmoor Guildhall): Initially more attractive than the Rauzan, its charms much more conventional. Big, rich, smoky nose, with some exotic musk. Smooth and luxurious on the palate, with attractive blue fruit. Tannins now very well integrated, but there was a nice chew to the finish. Definitely tasty, but the consensus seemed to be that the Rauzan ultimately offered more interest. |

4/15/2024 - NickA Likes this wine: 93 pointsAnother 2004 horizontal (Hawksmoor Guildhall): Same bottle as SimonG (the other notes from today were from an adjacent table with a different bottle). A compelling nose, with some sweet decay that at first was slightly offputting but increasingly made sense. Quite complex on the palate, which was slightly lactic, had some graphite and game as well as purple fruit, and (its best attribute) was refreshingly pure and middleweight. Something of a dry finish, but oh-so-friendly to the food (bone marrow on toast in my case). My and the group's #2 wine tonight. |

4/21/2024 - Francophile1 Likes this wine: 91 pointsPoured from a 375ml bottle and decanted for 90 minutes. Consumed over the subsequent two hours. Aeration was rewarded on the nose as it opened up into a lovely lady. Wonderful! The finish was a disappointment as it was tight and lean with grainy tannin. The nose did not match the finish. Very typical of the 2005 vintage. What this tells me is that 2005 is the longest lived vintage of the ‘00 decade. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

4/21/2024 - Geoff7777 wrote: NRLunch Bistro Rex: Opened 4-5 hours before service and slow-ox, this was unimpressive on opening but was transformed in the glass later. Medium scarlet red in colour and no more than medium body, Merlot fruit, violets, red fruits and coffee on the nose with a suave creamy palate and a long finish. This would have paired well with the Albert Morot, as the wine is quite Burgundian in structure. Consistent with the bottle from a few years ago and delicious but not for keeping 18.5. |

4/20/2024 - salil wrote: 89 pointsGrand Sichuan, Jersey City edition (Grand Sichuan, Grove St.): Leftovers from the bottle that Seth posted his 4/19 note on. It's still holding up quite nicely, though doesn't show quite the same array of aromatic depth Seth described. The red fruited flavours here are quite gentle and play a supporting role to more savoury dried floral, herbal, and faintly leathery elements. Feels fully mature and perhaps slightly on the downslope, with the structure fully integrated here, and a graceful, silky texture on a mediumweight frame. |

4/20/2024 - AlphaMikeFoxtrot wrote: 87 pointsDark chocolate, tobacco, over ripe dark plums, over ripe blackcurrants, ripe black cherries, black licorice and a hint of green bell pepper on the nose. Smells like what I expect for 14 year old Bordeaux, though surprising it smells THIS old given that it's a 2010. Medium + intensity of aromas. On the palate, the oak makes its presence felt. Flavors of cedar wood, smoke, baking spices and anise dominate the over ripe dark fruits. Definitely more secondary than I like my left bank Bordeaux, though with a nice medium + intensity of flavors. Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

4/20/2024 - sdr Likes this wine: 94 pointsThis was a Mähler-Besse bottle released in 2005 that I purchased maybe a decade ago. Beautiful deep ruby robe. Gorgeous fragrance of pure “Margauxberry” (violet and dark plum). Medium weight. Very, very pretty and nice acidity. Elegant. Soft to no tannin. Lovely flavor - but very light since there is no grip. |

4/19/2024 - Wine Canuck wrote: 96 pointsPerfect bottle with a high fill into the neck. This pours medium ruby in the glass with faint bricking. The nose is just soaring with classic Margaux perfume showing violets, plum, barnyard, charcoal, tobacco, and wet soil. The palate is youthful and silky showing loads of plum and violets with silky medium tannin and medium acid. The finish is long and layered replaying the classic violets and plums. All in all this was an incredible and regal showing from the 1970 Palmer. About as I good as I could imagine it showing. Just a hair behind the incredible 1983 and 1989 I've had. What's particularly amazing here is the amount of life this 54 year old wine is showing. Should easily make it another 54 years and beyond. |
