Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more

Nice experience and fully mature. P&P. Not really typical Pauillac (e.g. no pencil in the nose), but black currant, blackberries and wet underwood. The ladies at the table preffered this one in stead of pinot noir.

Big step up from my last bottle 4yrs ago. Much more integrated and clearly in its drinking plateau, though likely won't fade for a while. Smoke, flint, pipe tobacco and a little green cab on the nose. Palate is finely cut, with cassis and ton of leafy tobacco flavor. Still has plenty of tannin, but the fruit/tannin/acid are all in balance and enjoyable now. Moderate to long finish.

Quite elegant and round perfumes in the nose, cherries, leather, mints, green peppers, lavenders, roses, violets, and smoked wood; chunky and juicy but not particularly complex and lacking some elegancy on the palate, berries, cherries, citrus fruits, licorice, and some wet sandalwood; quite long finish, with noticeable ripe tannins; overall, 92-93 points at this stage; still needed a few more years to evolve further.

Served blind; garnet core with some clarity, crimson maroon rim; nose has lots of roses and dried fruit which led me to Italy, tobacco, currant, green pepper, earth, and compost, firm structure, and cedar brought me to a Bordeaux variety so I called Super Tuscan...should have known but he serving temperature was much too warm; nice wine and one of my favorite producers; this is still youthful and should reward more collaring but it is somewhat accessible like many '04s now.

There is Pichon, and then there are other wines. Might be the wine of the vintage, albeit based on a narrow sampling. Loved it. everything that needed to happen has happened. Forget what I said a year ago.

From magnum. Better than its reputation. Tastes like Ch Musar with a hint of aged Bordeaux. Popped and poured, evolved during the evening, at first a tiny tiny metallic taste, someone suggested celery, but that disappeared after 30 mins or so. A really great wine, in its drinking window but still some tannins, drink now or within 5 years (magnum).

Drinking nicely now, will likely get better, but not sure it has the backbone to go a long time but it doesn't have to. For the price, makes you think- how much does a "lower tier" bordeaux cost and what does it deliver compared to a new world wine? There is much value over there in Bordeaux. The pricing went nutty after 09 and 10, but even so, there are some great wines at lower prices than we get from epic vintage after epic vintage here. Well, not really complaining when it's a question of good wines at different prices - at least there are lots of good wines around.

Very good wine that has hit its Wheelhouse drinking window...and it appears to be a very long window. Wonderful Pauillac nose with tobacco and cedar. Like other notes it does need at least an hour decant and then thirty minutes in glass it evolved even more. The tannins have melted wonderfully into the fruit and the wine just coats your mouth. There is a ton of fruit left in this wine that tells me this wine has another ten years for a drinking window. Purchased this bottle from a friend that had it in his cellar since '91 or '92 and then consumed it at an Anniversary Dinner at Resaurant Eugene in Atlanta. Can't wait to hunt down some more!

Sipping and snacking at Harlan's Penthouse Hong Kong. The “man” himself waived corkage so we went big. Brownish red to the eye. Dark, ripe, red fruits on the nose with a hint of leather, coffee and chocolate. Elegant on the palate, very soft tannins. Perhaps just a few years past her stride in terms of structure, but still silky on the finish. We would have preferred five years ago, but still luvly.

Initially austere; with an hour or two developed with juicy plummy cedar and tobacco backboned lengthy opulence; tannins are rather soft but it is still not at a mature stage.

From 75cl, perfect cork. Decanted 1 hour, about right. "Lynch light", but delicious nonetheless. Cool cedar edge just what we wanted on a hot evening with barbequed lamb. 89P

Deep ruby, almost inky in color. Woodsy, truffle, smoky aromatics remind me a smoking a Cuban cigar while drinking a glass of plum and blackberry liqueur. The aromatics pop along with the cork. Incredibly rich, the wine takes up a lot of room on the palate, with a wall of ripe tannins and a fine grained finish of ripe cassis that does not want to quit.

Truffle, licorice, spice, incense and cedar chest aromas with only a bit of fruit poling through today. On the palate, the wine is lush, powerful, sweet and fresh, but clearly, this is starting to close down for several years. It’s obvious from the complexities in the nose, silky mouth feel and volume, this is a stunning wine. But it’s not much fun to drink now. Give this a decade or more and enjoy the fire-works.

Intense dark ruby core with good vibrant brownish rims.
Nice expressive nose of tobacco, cigar box, dried herbs, earth and some blackcurrant. Beautiful and elegant nose. Simply the nose of the night among the 3 aged wines.
Smooth, supple and elegant, along with tobacco, cigar box, earthy and chalky notes. Still got nice freshness and blackcurrant on palate with balance acidity. Long lingering finish with soft chewy tannins. Not too impressive but it has nice balance and harmony.
Amazing and what a surprise! This bottle is holding up nicely and lovely to drink. Another difficult vintage but it manage to transcend the poor and uneven vintage.

Had this at Fortaleza do Guincho in Portugal for my birthday. We started with 96 DP Oenotheque and moved on to the 89 Baron. Stunning, there is no other way to describe it. Unfortunately or fortunately the sommelier and I know each other but he didn't realize I had confidence in him and he waited to open until we arrived. So our first taste was only after 30 minutes decanted. At that point it was starting to express dark fruit, balance, but some residual tannins and acidity. 15 minutes later in the glass this wine was singing and it held up over a 2.5 hour dinner. I'm neither sophisticated or knowledgeable enough to use all the winespeak everyone uses but I can speak this...one of the finest Bordeaux I have EVERY tasted and want to start my treasure hunt today for whatever is lurking in shops and cellars :-).

Slowly decanted in bt, garnet with rim in brick red. Nose of leather, cassis and autumn leaves. Vibrant in mouth offering good structure and very fine balance of acidity, tannin resolving, black fruits, long lasting aroma, many 80s wines are in their prime drinking windows, this too but shall hold.

Good wine with interesting aromas of blackberries, lots of herbs (forest floor is a great tasting note, but I won't steal it), and pencil shavings (I'll steal that). A bit thin, but tannins are heavy. Fruit is a little muted (something I rarely say). This strikes me as a traditional, old-world-style wine.

Sipping now with good balance and subtlety of fresh fruits on the nose and smooth, mellow, silkiness on the palate with just enough grip to keep it interesting. An classy - think Royal Procession - finish that lasts fairly long. A most endearing palate that should lay down despite being a 2007.
