Delicious now and drinking as good as it will get. Double decanted for an hour. Taking on more character, cedar, tobacco, rich fruit- cassis and black currants make this a pleasing pour.

Ripe and rich this wine is getting better. Savory plum and sweet blackberry and cassis, full-bodied, beautifully balanced, and smooth all night long and all the way down.

Triple decanted three hours before drinking this elegant well-balanced, velvet and deep purple poetry in a bottle. Rich blackberry, black currant, and plum with cedar forest, licorice and cassis merge beautifully into a lingering loving finish filling the mouth with wonder and wonderful

Pretty closed on the nose even after lots of air. Dark fruit, coffee and very tannic.

Ripe dark fruit, but thin, sweet and pruiny and a awful, rubber and plastic note.

Not sure where the recent low scores are coming from, perhaps they were not stored properly. I purchased this as a future and had some (unwarranted) concerns after reading the most recent reviews. This could be on the downhill side of peak but I was delighted with it. That unmistakable perfume of mature Pauillac. Silky in the mouth and impeccable balance. Completely enjoyable with a luscious sirloin.

Recommend drinking soon, just in case....

Decanted three hours. Dark, uncompromisingly so on both nose and palate, with slightly grainy tannins and a currently rather unapproachable demeanour. There are aspects of it that are undeniably impressive but I found nothing to really love about this as it stands. Clearly not everyone wants to swoon over their Pauillac but where is the joy when wine is this structured and monolithic?

Quite sweet on the nose, with some earthy tones on the palate. Tannins well integrated. For the price point a very interesting and rewarding wine.

Stored in a cold cellar since release. Perfect cork. High fill level. Excellent condition. Slight browning at rim. Fruit, still some tannin, good length.
Lacks great depth and intensity but actually a perfect gentlemen. Unlikely to improve. Drink to 2020.

Dark color. This came across as ripe, but not roasted. Silky. Blackberry flavors. This may have suffered by comparison in that it followed a 2004 Pavie Macquin, which just crushed it. This is in a good place, but will drink well for years. 90

Flawless cork with deep stained edge. Dark reddish purple in color. Abundant fresh classic cabernet aromas- cassis, leather. Beautiful nose- a long deep inhale showed no sharp edges at all. First sips reveal glycerin, dark fruits, (Will thought he tasted avocado), fat on the tongue but finishing with a freshness, finesse, that begs you to sip again. Tannins are seamlessly integrated. Longer time in the glass heightened the enjoyment- it opened up but never got flabby as one would expect with a great wine. This wine requires more contemplation than what is possible when you just share just one bottle with others. We opened a bottle of Shafer Hillside alongside, which was beautiful. It's unfair to make a comparison, but time in the glass made the Lafite more interesting/complex and the Shafer less so.

Sweet, sour flowers with earth and mushroom. Alcohol. Too young. Tight. Watery. Tart. Let breathe for at least an hour to improve. Age longer (and decant).

The oldest wine in tonight's flight, and the most mature. And even though it might have been tastier 10 years ago, there is still plenty of love left!

Medium+ intense nose with fully developed aromas of tobacco, soy sauce, sesame seeds, cigar box, some green notes, lots of ceder, prunes, and sponge cake. Complex in all its maturity, and a lot better than I had expected. Tasted a '79 Margaux a couple of weeks ago that was far over the hill, and was expecting this to be along the same lines.

On the palate it's quite round, with fine grained tannins, medium acidity and a medium(-) body. Lacking somewhat in intensity (medium) and the finish could have stuck around longer.

There is clear age here, and I would recommend anyone who's fortunate to own a bottle of this to open it fairly soon. Even though it drinks good now, it's probably post peak.
Nose is 94P, Palate 87-88P. Lets go for 91P :)

5/24/2015 - Lilja Likes this wine: 96 points

Medium intense nose with aromas of roasted oak, burned wood, wet gravel, concrete, dirt, dark fruit, wood, ceder, tobacco, coffee and chocolate. Very good depth and high complexity. There is just layer upon layer with classic Bordeaux. Took some time to open up though, and as always the best sip and sniff is the last one.

Medium+ acidity, distinct, medium+ tannins well balanced by a vibrant fruit. High intensity and a long, long finish. Medium+ body. The plate also felt very tight knit at the start, but given an hour in the glas out come a beautifully balanced, silky, elegant wine.

Would love to drink this in 5 years, and the very good '89 vintage really have kept this wine in great shape. The QPR is not very god though :)

Great for the vintage. Decanted and drunk immediately. Deep, ruddy red color. But the nose is what grabs you -- classic, perfumed, rich berry, saddle, and cedar, absolutely lifting from the glass. Similar solid favors. Delicious if not particularly elegant. Excellent now, but 2-4 years from peak., I'd say.

Dinner with Bob H and Elaine (Chez V): [Brought by Bob H. Decanted around 5pm.] On first opening, it is tight as a drum, showing almost nothing. After 2 hours in the decanter, it has opened up as a complex and lovely wine. Nose of sandalwood, licorice, camphor, and black fruits (plums, cherries). Still tannic in the mouth, but with lots of ripe juicy black fruits in a long finish. Appealing now, but may improve further with another 5 years, and drink well for another 10 or 15. 93-94 points.

My first bottle of a case of 12 bought EP and well-stored ever since. Almighty heavy bottle! Opaque purple juice. Enticing nose, almost shy (should have decanted?). Full-bodied yet refined taste giving you the real deal in classical Pauillac flavours. Yes, it finishes with a wall of tannins, but they are of the soft type and will melt away with time. To be revisited in one or two years, I'll take my time with these beauties.
