2017 Prospice Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Quintessence VineyardRed Mountain more |
4/23/2024 - Pedroel Likes this wine: 89 pointsQuintessence is in my top two or three favorite vineyards, seemingly producing stellar wines from multiple vintners. However, this time something went a bit sideways. It’s fine, but has an odd plum flavor overriding all else. Prospice’s track record, albeit kinda short, is excellent, so it’s hard to point the finger there. Nonetheless, it’s a step short of well balanced and yummy. |

4/20/2024 - acyso wrote: 93 pointsDinner at Tiny Pine Bistro (Carbondale, CO): Very dark in stature, the way Washington syrah can get, but there was a slightly natural bent to this the way Franck's Sans Soufre can get as well. That said, it's not like this wine is dirty or funky at all -- in fact, it's very clean and though the fruit quality here is incredibly dark and purplish, there is also this silky texture that young-vintage Allemand might have. An excellent bottle of New World syrah, and with a big bunch of Cayuse in my recent memory, this far surpasses that style for my palate. |

4/20/2024 - RichardP wrote: 91 pointsPlum and menthol on the nose. On the palate, black cherry, currant, and notes of plum, oaky coconut, and vanilla, with strong tannins and strong acidity on the medium to long finish. This was better the second day, after the coconut note had faded and the tannins had integrated some. This is much too young; it's probably five years from a reasonable drinking window. Even so it was an excellent value at a little over $50. |

4/20/2024 - mojotojo Likes this wine: 92 pointsExcellent, mature, GSM-type blend from Force Majeure. Dark cherries and other red fruit, lavendar, "french" spices, garrigue, just a hint of olive tapenade, and wet stone. The tannins have fully resolved and are silky and sweet. Lush is a good descriptor. Delicious wine wine that is complex and drinking wonderfully now and can probably last a few more years. |

The sage distinguishes WA from Napa for me. Not super complex but drinking well at this stage with a 2 hour decant. About medium acidity with velvety tannins. |

1/26/2024 - ylkim30 Likes this wine: NRJanuary 2024 Northern Rhone Dinner: A Syrah varietal wine sourced from the Columbia Valley in Washington State. Darker in character than the ‘11 Benetiere, it shared a fresh-tasting vibrancy and textural delicacy on the palate. While it had the smoke, meat, and herbs of the Northern Rhone, that Old World savoriness was married with a restrained, yet luminescent fruit that clearly placed it in the New. Although this cuvee is meant to be held for no longer than 10 years, the intensity of flavor feels a little too serious to be simply glou-glou, despite its easy-going drinkability. I never heard of this producer before, but I’m looking forward to following them in the future. (Apparently, Yves Gangloff consults on the Syrah and Viognier wines produced by Kobayashi). |
