Taking quite a bit of time to open, this wine is full of blackberry and blueberry flavors. Those are joined by plum and nice earthy notes with nice acidity keeping things balanced.
The wine was even better the next day and held up nicely over the weekend. This wine is approachable (with decanting) now, but definitely has a good few years ahead of it.

Good Rose for the price. Fairly simple nose with a hint of minerality, and showing a tiny bit of va as it warms up. On the palate, more stony minerality and some nice blood orange notes. Vibrant but well-balanced acidity...finishes ever-so-slightly bitter.

Popped and poured. Paired with a New York steak. Amazing bottle of wine. This is hitting on all cylinders right now. The texture is like putting on silk pajamas and sliding into satin sheets. Soft and supple without any hint of flabbiness. Plenty of fruit on the palate, with notes of strawberry, red currant and cherry. Aromas of clove, cardamom and thyme that then shifted into charred meat. Just an all around WOW bottle.

Showing it's age, this one. Stewed fruit showing on the nose and palate, with some bricking on the rim. Thought this would have held up a tad better. Spicy-sweet red fruit, like strawberries with balsamic drizzled over them. As mentioned, a slight stewed fruit flavor that isn't terrible, but also doesn't bode well for future drinkability. Solid acid and structure, but the overly sweet fruit detracts somewhat. Drink 'em if you got 'em!

Noticed deep dark color on first pour. This was smooth & silky for a chianti. Nose & taste matched the color - dark fruit, cherry, cedar, lead, vanilla. Solid body, decent length on finish. Pleasant surprise.

First taste was very good. Well structured softer than expected but a decent amount of fruit. This continued for the mid-palate however the end let this wine down a little. Slightly sour finish to the wine which only shows its head at the end. Might disapear after a few more years of cellaring. I think this can go for another 10 years and will be a lot better in 5+. Sour finish resulted in a lower score. If it was consistent this would have been a 91

Not in love with this wine -- nicely, it varies with the vintage -- but it goes well with roasted beef, it has some structure, and the dark fruit flavors are in balance with the tannin and acids. Drink or hold.

has hit a drinking window where the minerality is starting to integrate with the tart, lemony fruit
there is a buttery component brought out by the pan fried trout in a traditional butter sauce that it was served with
will try and hold off till at least next summer before trying again

This is a very nice little $10 frizzante. Dry, with a strawberry finish, it goes down quite easily, it's festive, and it will infuriate the wine geek who can't appreciate it for what it is. What more do you want?

2009 Still Waters Vineyards Cabernet Franc

Who knew?! A six year-old Paso cab franc with restraint, structure, texture, and balance? Heck a Paso wine worth the 25 bones -- start there! What a wine! Minerality! Verve! True, low expectations make for a more pleasurable drinking experience, but this is a flat out delish bottle of wine. Impeccably cellared since release, opened at the optimal moment, served with the right food -- on Mr. Parker's scale of eighty to a hundred, this was a six thousand. On the undrinkable/drinkable/tasty scale (my preferred system), this is a tasty. 'Nuff said. If you have one -- both of you out there -- serve at cellar temp. V. important. But if it's being well kept, no rush, either.

PnP at Piccolo Paradiso. Followed a 2010 Booker Ripper grenache. This is usually my least favorite Saxum but this bottle was by far the best Heartstone I've had from any vintage. Great nose of dark berries and truffles with lush fruit on the attack and depth to follow. Very deep. Long finish. Enjoyed immensely. Wish I had more.

The last time I had this was at a Muscadet tasting and a few people noticed that it did taste a little advanced for it's age. I'm not one to be highly sensitive to premox. It has to be a pretty bad case of it for me to not want to finish the wine. I did notice a little that day, but against a set of clean crisp Muscadet wines, perhaps it was easier to spot. Still I enjoyed it that day, and I enjoyed this bottle as well with all the elements of the sea and shore that it evoked. But I will say that I don't think it's worth holding these any longer if you've got them. Drink up.
