Lovely dark red fruit nose with slight secondary flavors. Decent complexity and great balance, at a very good time to consume.

A soft, rounded-out wine at this point, with a seemingly less dimensional profile than I recall from past bottles. Still a nice, well made medium-bodied cabernet, with traditional notes of red currant and soft red berry flavors. Very faint Petite Verdot blue fruit on the back end. Paired fine with homemade margarita pizza.

I tasted this a year or so ago, and even two years ago with Karen Culler on release. At those times, the Petite Verdot component seemed to be giving off some darker, purple, plum, and blueberry fruits, helping out this wine and adding some interest. Now I fear the fruit is already fading a bit, as these nuances were nearly absent from this current bottle. After an hour open, the wine offered no significant change. A quasi-decent QPR for $40-50, but less my style of cabernet. Those who like more feminine reds will still find pleasure here.

Light-bodied, ruby-colored; nose shows a bit of pleasant funk / barnyard along with some herbs and barely ripe strawberry. Easy drinking, pairs well with mid-weight dishes; label abv is 11.5%; this is closer to rose' than to a big red.

Lemon yellow with much splendour; focused on the nose, very clear and earthy, mineral. On the palate with strength / pressure, stayss long (without a thick body) on the palate, clear, earthy, piquant, focused. Pure-tone, white to yellow fruit, which overall plays a rather minor role - more herbal, ethereal and mineral. Wonderful acidity, great flow; balanced and harmonious. Now very good, but absolutely no rush for the next few years. Long mineral cool and spicy finish.

This wine is a consistent crowd pleaser, and should be at nearly $100 per bottle. I popped and poured this, by popular demand, but it really didn't suffer for that as many younger Cabs do. This is accessible from the beginning, smooth and silky with a terrific balance of fruit (I get a mix of black and blue fruits mainly), with enough tannins to give it some stuffing, and everything really in balance right now. Great mouthfeel (some body but not viscous), and finish lasts a good 30 seconds if you can hold off on your next sip that long. I'm not sure how this will age for 10 or 20 years, but at the rate I'm consuming my stash, I'm doubtful it will be a problem. This wine has consistently outperformed just about every other Cali Cab blend in its price range that I've tried against it. A couple of months ago, it beat out Continuum, TreasuRed, and Mercury Head as co-wine of the night with La Sirena (which was just a wholly different bottle of high end Cab). Kudos to Plumpjack for a real winner here. I am getting on the mailing list today.

Dark red
On the nose, tobacco, stable and red berries.
On the palate, dark fruits, leather, cigar box
medium + finish

Not as "hot" that I thought it would be due to the vintage.

Cracked and poured at fridge temp. A very expressive nose with lots of black currant leaf/cat's piss, nettles, fresh cut grass, very refreshing. The palate shows good acidity, light lemony tastes with some minerality. A very nice SB, young and feisty.

(Random mid-week bottle) Light honey gold in glass. Gentle aromatics of sweet lemon, hay, hint hessian, honeycomb, and pure white florals. Crisp zippy citrus, green apple, neatly laced with notes of caraway and fennel seed. Pleasant development, but not quite over the hill yet! Finishes with some gentle spritz and pomelo pith, quartz gravel and hints hessian. Still rather primary with some development very much still on-going. Pleasant, and lovely with fried hokkien mee!

Golden yellow
On the nose, marzipan, almond, bakery, white jasmine flowers and a hint of honey.
On the palate, yellow matured apples, more marzipan, a flow of nuts and almonds. There some bakery in the taste as well. What a master piece.
the acidity is very well integrated in the over all impression.

7/28/2015 - MQuentel Likes this wine: 98 points

The best Sauvignon Blanc I ever have tasted. Sorry for France, but this Austrian SB is marvelous.
Deep and extremely complex, because of the IZ = intercelluar fermentation this SB is totaly different from the reguar Zieregg. Yeasty and herbaceous, green berries, fresh fruits, green vegetables and spicy notes, much of wonderful floral aromas. Superb mineral notes. On the palate still young, powerful, deeply concentrated, extremely complex aromas, dried herbs, pepper, peppers, avocado othe fresh vegetables, wow - such a huge minerality an a perrfect and totally well balanced acidity, incredible length. Needs much of air, has a long life to go. Perfect wine.

This is a bit disjointed and the fruit has faded a bit. I did not get the "oak" that earlier reviews noticed. Perhaps it has integrated. The style is heavy, but not in a sweet, vanilla California style. I agree with the reviewers that this is expensive for what it is, and there are far better examples of Chardonnay for a lot less money. It is in the style of WS, and no other, and there are apparently enough people who like this style. The one bottle a year I get is interesting to taste for its novelty.

Well... bought a half case of this hoping it would be as good as it is today. Rich red and purple fruit, cinnamon undertones, candied licorice/anise, mineral energy... and big. Not quite as smooth as higher end offerings, but excellent regardless. The drinking window is open and will last for a few more years. Glad to have a few left : ) .
