Typical ruby color, with typical Santa Rita Hills nose: strawberry, black cherry, slight hints of cola, and some earth and spice. Nice Raspberry and dark cherry on the palate, with some subtle spices and a smooth finish. Still tasty, but I don't see this wine improving any with more time. Will revisit the '04 and '05 side by side soon! More to come! |

5/1/2010 - markjahnke wrote: 87 pointsNow here is a wine that I would have guessed would be a bit over the hill, not showing much, and being on the sour side. Thankfully, this was not the case at all, and this made for the perfect summer sipper to enjoy during this year’s running of the Kentucky Derby. Grabbed this out of the “wine and beer fridge” down in the cellar, and it was served nice and cold, just how we like our whites. In the glass, this was very light, faded salmon in color, and really reminded me of the same color of Pali’s rose blend a few years ago. On the nose, nice nectar hints, pear, strawberry, and kiwi. On the palate, a very nice acidity for a 5 year old white, with lots of citrus tones. To say that this bottle is past its prime to me is a total mistake, and I think that it is still drinking very nicely. Pleasant, crisp finish made this wine a joy to drink and made this wine perfect to sip while seeing Calvin Borel ride to his 3rd Derby win in 4 years on Super Saver. And leave it to Zelda to once again pick the winery of this year’s Derby. 87 points! Cheers! |

Nose had a frontal note of sulfur that was somehow not unpleasant, and then in the background pineapple, lemon, vanilla, light spice, and perhaps a little hay. Fairly intense forward tropical flavors are broad on the palate, along with some vanilla and caramel, and a moderate finish of toast. Medium acid. Overall, straightforward tropical chard flavors that are not overblown, but also not remarkable so I don't fully get the the RP score and hype. Drinks at its price point of 18. |

Some light cherry with earth, cola and a degree of minerality. Would have liked a liitle more fruit. Hint of tannin. Decent, but won't run back for more. |

2/25/2010 - PackerJon wrote: 87 pointsWine was tightly wound, I rarely decant a pinot, but this one needed it. Had a strong backbone, but was a little too tart for my tastes. Flavors of cherry and some oak. A medium purple color in the glass and a good nose of raspberry and spice. A nice wine if you are looking for a slightly tannic pinot. It did open up and I'm sure it would pair nicely with food. |

Palate is in line with nose with dark cherries, herbs and hints of cola...This seemed out of balance, slightly closed, and angular. Wondering if things will come together with some bottle age or more air time. Least impressive of 5 Alma Rosa Pinots tasted at winery |
