Not decanted. I openend the botte one hour before and consumed over 3-4 hours. After two hours the wine improved a lot (next time i will decant it for 2 hours). Pretty good wine, no hurry to drink. 92-93 pts.

Excellent mature St Julien. Ruby red with slight bricking. Decanted and aerated for 30 minutes then drank over 90 minutes. Typical 1990 nose of dark red and cooked fruits, cassis, dark espresso, tobacco. Velvety and rich, coats the palate with rich fruit, excellent structure and balance and finishes long with melting tannins. A true beauty.

Good, typical nose. Juicy on palate, finishing very tannic. A toss-up whether it will die before fully integrating

Union Des Grands Crus de Bordeaux San Francisco. The 2008 was sent by mistake which was a pleasant relief and pleasant surprise, big, rich, black cherry, cassis, and licorice, more of the same on the palate, tasted and was stunned by the contrast of this wine as I was three fourths of the way thru the evening when I tasted this, big body, subtle, elegant, good complexity, needs three years in the cellar and probably merit a higher score, medium/long finish.

UGC Bordeaux Tasting - 2013 Vintage (Bentley Reserve, SF): A nice contrast for this tasting - quite open! Savory fur-forward nose. Warm and pleasantly animal. Soft, stewed peppers. Slight bruised strawberry. Good fruit but missing a deep core of cassis. Palate is ready to go. Between 8.5 and 9.

From 75cl, bottle not moved since delivery as subscription purchase, perfect cork. Decanted 90 minutes. Promising cedar and blackcurrant scent on decanting the best part. This was rather green, underripe, thin, tannic and forbidding; best after 3 hours. My guess is this should hit a sweet spot in about 2-3 years when the remaining grippy tannins melt, and hold well for some time after that. It'll never be a great wine, or as rich as the ripest 2002 super seconds (Lynch Bages). 90P at peak (in 2018?)

This was supposed to be a 2013 tasting event and somehow Poyferré had the wrong stuff sent out. Ha ha! Fair enough, if I were them, I wouldn't send out stuff that wasn't fully ready for scrutiny yet either. I mean, I'm sure it was an honest mistake. ;D In any case, I was happy to check out the '08, as I've had every vintage from the 2000s other than this one. And it didn't disappoint. Dusty mushroomy nose, rich meaty palate....portobello fabulousness.

Btw she said if you have any of their '96 in your cellar, drink it now.

This wine is hitting on all cylinders right now. Vibrant and explosive in the glass with tons of licorice, currant, lavender, cedar, and a touch of olive tapenade. The finish is electric with a core of pure fruit that won't quit as the finish pushes through the youthful tannin and goes on and on. Just entering its adulthood, this wine is going to be fun to drink between now and 2025. It will be hard for me to keep my hands off it. Decant for 1 hour and enjoy. Impressive wine!

2013 UGC Bordeaux Tasting (Bently Reserve, San Francisco CA): Nice nose with roasted red bell pepper, blackberry; palate is full bodied, rich black fruit, excellent concentration, approachable but young tannin; medium finish. Solid bordeaux with some age, but not much... Still needs a lot of time. 91+

Intact but unfortunately very faded, no sign of heat damage or flaws. Minimal fruit remaining, overall pretty muddled, some savory elements on the palate with muted fruit. This bottle probably peaked some 10-15 years ago.

Deep colour, fragrant nose with fruits and tobacco. Rich palate, sweet ripe mostly red fruits, herbs and cedar underneath. Lush but balanced texture. Double decanted, was very good from the beginnng, but better with more air after a while, so I suggest decanting ca 2 hrs before pouring back in the bottle and starting to drink. Perfect drinking window now-2020, but with more complexity from 2020-2030. 92+

UGC 2016 (Chicago, IL): The oak here really works quite well with the density of the wine. This sits on the darker end of the spectrum, and this is among the densest and richest of the reds on display today. An excellent effort.

1/12. Decanted 1/2 an hour. Deep ruby core, narrow pale ruby rim. Nose is aromatic, youthful, with ripe, rich cedary dark fruit, touch of vanilla, hint of moist earth. Medium/full bodied, plush blackcurrant fruit, cedar, ripe and generous but with lovely vibrant acidity, good depth, tannins a touch grainy on the good length finish but overall excellent. Enjoyable now but should improve providing those tannins mellow.

One of those bottles that's finished quicker than you expect. 7th bottle in 4 years. In 2012 it was a little bitter and over extracted. A pointe in 2014 with well integrated blackcurrant. Always very long and persistent. The fruit is now starting to recede and develop secondary flavours of liquorice and smoke. Still plenty of tannic backbone. Drink now. Right now!

This wine is a surprisingly dark ruby red color, deep red rim, opaque center. On the nose it has clean dark fruit and mulberry smells, licorice, bottle-aged complexity, a hint of eucalyptus. On the palate, there is a nice purity of fruit, again dark fruit and mulberry, a nice acid structure with good grip, some tarry notes. A very classic style Bordeaux, still fresh and lively even from a modest vintage. Surprisingly good.
