Some Rousseau 04's (Wine cave): This was the highlight of the 04's we tasted, not quite up there with the 04 Chambertin but outstanding all the same. A step up again in complexity with forest floor, mineral and sweet red fruits coming to the fore. The palate is also understated like all the great Rousseau wines I've had no matter the vintage. Pure class. The finish is what impresses most about this wine as it is so silky and long, even better than the Charmes was by a good deal. There is an element on the nose in all these 04's of the vintage and they probably won't last as long as the great years but they're so rewarding. The vintage is almost taboo amongst a lot of wine connoisseurs and having worked this vintage in Burgundy I can understand the bad wraps. We threw out 40-60% of the fruit on the triage table across all cru's but.................. there's always diamonds in the rough and producers like Rousseau I believe captured the essence of this vintage perfectly.

Some Rousseau 04's (Wine cave): As expected this was also slightly more rewarding than the Cazetieres. Full and rich with no lack of length or expression despite the characteristic stemmy character of the vintage. The class of the Cru shines through and silky tannins help to convey the terroir effortlessly. This is Grand Cru Rousseau no matter what the vintage, understated and silky with a peacocks tail to finish. What's not to like? If your looking for overripe, muscular, bordering opaque Pinot Noir then don't buy this as you will be disappointed.

Some Rousseau 04's (Wine cave): A step up from the village wine showing a more complex gravelly nose and trademark silky tannin profile. A very understated but ultimately very rewarding wine and at around $80 a bargain.

Some Rousseau 04's (Wine cave): I don't think the bottle's provenance was that good but the wine was still very enjoyable. Did have a slightly lean/herbal character but the palate was delicious. Great for the vintage.

This was surprisingly good. Outstanding nose of red and blue fruit, wet stone and spice. Outstanding balance and fully open texture. Broad with nice grip on the finish. I'm starting to think $150 for a village wine may be appropriate...maybe....

Having just had the 2010, I found this noticeably riper and forward with more black fruit and black pepper. Up front and concentrated without the balance or completeness of the 2010.

Color: pale red
Nose: very distinctive, this had a very unpleasant nose at start, not floral, after about an hour in the glass -wow really complex nose, this is hard to pin down, floral now after 1.5 hours,
Palate: medium bodied, good tannins, very finesse, pretty, beguiling, wow full of character, layered complexity, classy

From a 375ml at RN 74. Lovely wine with classic Gevrey nose of dark fruits, sauvage notes, damp earth. The palate is really tasty with lots of fruit, fresh acidity and well integrated tannin. A well made traditional styled Gevrey.

Drank over 4 hours. Lovely red fruit and some floral notes on the nose. More red fruit and a touch a dark/blue fruit on the palate. Nice mineral notes and great spice with just a bit of stems. Easy, forward and not very powerful, but sweet a nuanced. Medium++ finish. Great now and will improve.

At Jade Palace over a blinded Gevrey vs MSD Grand Cru theme. Colour was a beautiful ruby red, looking very vibrant and pure. Nose was very minerally, with a sweet perfume. Pure and elegant. Palate was fresh, clean, with wild strawberries, rose petals and violets. (Where is the MSD profile?) Make no mistake, this is an elegant wine, with lovely finesse and purity, but for all the fuss from the rest of the group, I struggled to (1) find a more structured, meaty and dense wine and (2) find any complexity. This is akin to a Lavaux st Jacques more than a GC from Rousseau. Enjoyable, but not what I would define as a GC worthy wine from such a superb domaine.

From half bottle this had a bit of cellar stink and was relatively skinny at first. A bit of air time and it was rocking. The nose was very savoury with notes of decaying leaves, smoke, pine needle sap and truffle. It gained in sweetness in the mouth and tasted of macerated fruits, brown sugar and soil. It had some minerally freshness to the finish and was a thoroughly engaging drink (whilst it lasted that is, as 375ml was by no means enough).

Opened at the end of a long dinner but glad I did. Utterly glorious and everything that makes a great bottle of Burgundy so compelling. The silky aromas coming in waves fully mature but at a pitch of perfection. Pale mature colour belied the effortless intensity with a multitude of tastes all drifting slowly to a finish in the distance. Glorious wine.

Excellent for a village wine, with fresh, clean fruit (raspberry, strawberry and cherry), good structure and definition and some length. Not the weight of the grand crus, but an attractive and enjoyable wine.

Absudly early to be drinking this. Peppery and primary -- to the extent the fruit is good, it is so in a very Beaujolais way; making one really regret opening the bottle.....As it opens it veers towards the red/tart end of the scale. Again, fine in some contexts, but not this one. Try again in 5-6 years.

A good colour, fairly deep, medium red; ripe strawberry and raspberry fruit with some richness and good length. There is perhaps a slight leanness towards the end, but this is remarkably good for its classification. Still lively and fresh, and should keep well.

A 1964 birthday Celebration (Sepia - Chicago IL): A wine I've never seen before (from Rousseau) from any vintage, I imagine this was an assemblage of the Lavaux and Cazetiers. Popped and poured, this started with mostly mature red fruit and subtle spice along with plenty of earth. This darkened and picked up weight within 10-15 minutes in glass, taking on more classic Gevrey character. I didn't care much for this the initial 5-10 minutes, but liked it considerably more shortly after that.
