A "dry sweet", apple, pear, exotic fruits and honey. Late harvest, rs 50-60 g/l depending on the vintage. Vinified in stainless steel (70%) and oak barrels (30%). Classy, super pleasant to drink, well balanced.

Immediately after opening the bottle, apricots, oranges, and almonds, with a fairly long aftertaste. After very approximately ten minutes, baked pears and maybe a whisper of cloves join in. A touch of harshness leading into the aftertaste, but with more time in the glass this fades away. Very sweet, with distinct acidity, and just the faintest accent of bitterness. Really very nice. The cork was extremely fragile but the underlying wine was in lovely shape--should be a pleasure for at least four more years, but the cork worries me for the longer term. [Tasted over an hour and a half from the Jancis Robinson glass and from the old (no longer available) Dany Rolland Cristal d'Arques Oenologue glass--the Dany Rolland glass brought out peaches in place of apricots but the results were otherwise nearly identical.]

Faded but lively still , with a long line of acid in the background. Deep gold colour , full bodied, focused palate.
Aroma of a pungent Apple sauce, toasted bread, kerosene, kaffir lime. Lovely silky texture & Strong finish.
So good :) Traditional and beautiful.

Nez d'abricot puissant. Moelleux et long en .très bien équilibré. Pas trop sucré. Le meilleur vin de dessert que j'ai goûté

Nose has tangelo - citrus orange & grapefruit and a white flower/ honey suckle bouquet.
Fresh ripe apple palate. Appealing mineral and acidity contribute to a pleasing mouthfeel and finishes with a nice tang finish that is palate cleansing. Enjoy with or without food.

Has taken on an old gold colour. On initial opening, there was a lovely fragrance when first nosed. But it seems to be the kind of fragrance that quickly saturates your nose, and soon becomes imperceptible. It was there again on days 2 and 3, when first a new glass is taken, but then vanishes.

There is nice weight and richness on the palate, but not too much. There is a lovely fresh acidity, and citric elements. A bit richer than an old auslese, but much closer to an auslese than to a Sauternes. It's really nice on first taking a sip. But then it coarsens, and as I go further down the glass gets less enjoyable. Pouring a second glass the same day was a mistake, I didn't enjoy it. I couldn't smell it any more, and the palate and finish were coarse in my mouth. But then we were back to stage one the next day, and I was careful not to drink too much too quickly to get to that disappointing situation, though I could see it could arrive again. Day 3, and we restart.

These are really odd features of wine that I have rarely encountered. I don't really know what to make of it. So no mark. It could perhaps have got a 92-94 for that first impression, but then spoiled it.

This is the last of my really old sweet Loire chenins that I purchased some 30 years ago. Quite a few of the later ones were disappointing, which is why I opened this one on a Tuesday on February, and also to avoid any passing swinish pearlers who might want to share it. This was really odd, because the first few sips said it t was going to be lovely, and then somehow it wasn't. But then restored itself after my mouth had had a rest from it. When it first started going funny, I thought maybe it was just too old and falling apart. But its repeated resurrections in my mouth showed that wasn't the case.

Pulling the cork was also an interesting game. I usually head straight for the 2-prong device with such old bottles, but I couldn't get it in, and it started pushing the cork inwards when I applied too much force. After several attempts, I reverted to a traditional corkscrew, and then it came out perfectly easily. Don't remember that happening before. It seems the cork had become a little sodden, but then the sugar had solidified to a degree in the cork.

Nez complexe, fruits murs, confits, sucrés. En bouche, c est tout en rondeur et douceur. Très belle longueur. Excellent avec le gâteau au fromage

This is one of those wines where (despite all we identified on the nose) it seems to have more going on in the mouth than in the aromatics. Jessie says it's a 90 but Max knocked it down to an 88 for the nose he found unremarkable.

Medium intensity nose with quince, honeysuckle, hay, lanolin, wet stone, lemon, and nutmeg. Medium body, medium(+) acidity and bone dry with a rich, medium(+) intensity of flavors including honey and wet stone, and some almonds on the mid-palate, and a nice, zesty finish. 14% alcohol but not hot. Youthful but suitable for aging.

Really nice for the price. Best served around 40-45 degrees to take the edge off. Crisp, nice minerality, slight tang, very dry.

La Cave se Rebiffe, Tours. On the nose a bit shy with brioche, green apple, a hint of sweet flowers and hazelnut. On the palate dry and fresh, full mouthfeel and long finish, really great, everything fits together. Best to enjoy it in the first one or two years after release. Incredible price to quality relation.

Pale gold. Light intensity - honey, green apple, pear, wet wool, peach, honeysuckle. youthful. off-dry, medium acid, medium alcohol, medium body. Grape, pear, peach - medium intensity. Medium finish. Drink now, potential for aging. Very good.

Straw color. Beautiful aromatics - white flowers, spices, apricot, pear. Medium-light bodied, with a bright beam of acidity that accentuates a mineral note. Great spices and yellow apple on the finish. Bright acidity! But balanced without being sweet. Very nice! Great with shrimp.

I was quite excited to try our 1st Vouvray. This did not have the acidity that I was expecting and seemed almost more like a resiling or even chard. Still nice, but quite muted, wondering if it was the bottle as there was obvious mold on the cork?? Honey, apple on nose. Oak and honey palate.

Lemon in the glass, moderately aromatic nose with green fruits and citrus, palate is dry and crisp, acidity is lively and bright, tart fruits lead with green apple and Meyer lemon, note tropical fruit as the wine warms, citrus blossom, gravely hints, medium + body, long lingering finish. Very nice, good QPR. Pair with a higher fat seafood.

I am neutral on this wine.... so far.

Color. Palish yellow, tinge of gold.

Nose. White flowers. Peach and apricot.

Palate. Muted. Light mouth feel. Fair level of acidity.

The only thing that keeps me interested is the alluring nose.

Bracing acid in this bottle. At the high end for what I can find enjoyable. Actually quite a bit better next day after putting in vacuum cork and storing in the fridge. I think a tad of oxidation helped tone down the sharpness.

Fruit character is tropical and unripe pear, fantastic length. Gravel in the direction of saline mineral characteristics, particular in the late palate.

We had this with a cheese plate and the soft cheese worked ok. I think it’s be better with something like crab legs dipped in butter or a white cream sauce over pasta.

Would buy again to have on hand for an by occasion that demands that sort of thing, beware of pulling this cork for a generic occasion, it’s not a mindless sipper.
