somewhat surprised this was even close to ready but it drank quite well, dense palate with good underlying fruit (leaning darkish) and with a really gutty, savory, barnyard-y, side to it that made it both interesting and very enjoyable... a big wine for a burgundy, nice but not something you would want to drink five night a week for sure... well done

Medium ruby center with maturing rim. Multidimensional Burgundian aromatics with an alluring mixture of cooler green elements, dark red fruit, stemminess, and a little woodsmoke. Medium to full bodied for Pinot with a miraculous combination of meatiness yet no sense of being ponderous. Perfectly ripe without any undue sweetness. More blue than red fruit, pomegranate, superb acidity, some residual tannin, excellent soil driven finish. Two years ago I said "better in 5+ years"; while that is undoubtedly true, I could not follow my own advice and hold off until 2018. No matter-it was also better in 2+ years! This is a dream Nuits that is progressing beautifully and will easily last another decade.

Mature black cherry aromas with earthy and slightly rustic aromas. Perhaps less mature flavors, showing black cherry and berry with subtle spice and meaty, minerally textures. I like where this is performing now, but don't see upside from here.

garnet/ruby color. Nose offers up small red and black small fruits, coffee, spice. Lovely chocolate fruit with smooth silky tannins and earthy minerality. Super 1er Cru NSG from a most reliable vigneron.

Popped and poured, moderately intense dark purple/garnet. Wonderfully expressive nose immediately off the pop shows complexities of under-ripened raspberries, sandalwood powder, fresh herbs, iron, rhubarb, autumnal vegetation and spring water. Aeration brings out the spice and other elements which veer into the sauvage. Moderate body, elegant and lithe with cascading flavors of wild berries dredged in iron-laden minerals and subtle spice. Lively acidity and fine-grained, somewhat chalky tannins culminate in an addictive cadenza of continuous intrigue.
Tremendously pure, refreshingly transparent and impeccably balanced; this is wine at it's finest.

I pulled this to open for comparison after the 2012 Gouges showed awkwardly. This one is much more friendly as you would expect, but I was immediately struck how much more advanced it was - been enjoying so many 2010s that I guess I hadn't noticed how far along they'd moved past release. The fruit here is turning more savory and plummy with a mushroom-like earthiness, and the primary fruit having receded enough to highlight a pretty raw and gritty structure. This will probably close down soon and become very tannic but fortunately for now it's still pretty expressive with aromas that hint at something more mature.

Darker ruby hue. Nose of raspberry, violets, stone, forest floor, cinnamon. Layers of iron, black cherry, raspberry, and just a lick of sour on stone (tough to describe) indicated youthfulness and zest. Stern tannins submerged by fruit, and ample acidity to drive things along. Longer finish of iron filings tussling with ringing red fruit. Nicely done and unapologetic about needing further evolution.

a couple hours of decanting and this is singing pretty well, dark fruits and very spicy flavors. Significant tannins remain so aging is not a problem. Not a smooth wine per se but then its NSG. Glad to have more

This showed ripe fruit right out of the bottle, but was better with 20 minutes of air. In a great spot, and really works for me - although at least one person found it to be a little too "ripe" for them. A-

Not ready. Cleary showing hints of incredibly concentrated dark cherry/boysenberry in center palate, a wonderful occasional waft of black cherry, smoke, wet earth and fruit acid on the nose. After a decant for an hour then a short second decant, the wine emerged in parts but still evolving slowly from sleep. Despite the 2015 start date predicted by the reviewers, I would hold for 3-5 more years.

Tuesday Night Double Blind $60+ (Bin 75): Dark dull crimson rim; funk, green, many called this canned asparagus, nice balance, deep tart red fruit; good density, full mid palate, firm tannin, sour red fruit, violets, a plushness to the tannin almost reminded me of N. Rhone; very good; pop and pour, should have let aerate longer to see if green subsided at all.

Pretty good. I would never pick it as a Pinot in a blind tasting. It has almost none of those characteristics. It's somewhat sour, rather tart, and thus the fruit is most akin to cranberry. It is firm and decidedly old school. It can be quite floral on the nose.

Lovely forest floor, mushroom stock, notes of game, with just a wisp of fruit hanging around. Good acidity, nice minerality. This is a very good LSG. Lovely bottle.

A lightly darker, but not oxidized or oxidative, profile is a giveaway this is not chardonnay. Orchard fruits with a nice spine of acidity. Good wine, but the somewhat short finish is a giveaway for it's village status. Better with food.

Probably heading to a shut-down phase, but not fully there, yet. Smoky, spicy nose with red berries. The mouth is medium-weight with a silky texture and smoky red berries. Tannins are round and the acidity is moderate but correct. It appears to be a wine to put away for 3-4 years and then drink for the next 10-12 after that.

Immediately expressive and engaging as soon as the cork is pulled. The nose is full of damp Autumnal leaves, truffles, smoked meats and soot. It is full, meaty and muscular in the mouth with all sorts of savoury flavours. It lacks a little mid-palate flesh but is an ethereal wine that holds your attention right through the bottle. The finish has a touch of fruit rind bitterness that ensures a fresh clean finale.

Another excellent showing. Beautiful clear ruby red color. The nose is a little rustic but full of bright red fruit as well. This is showing *really* young and drinking like its just been released. It has just a little bit of heat but it not at all flabby.
