Pop and pour. Tobacco, coffee, dark fruit, oak on the nose. Big wine with that drinks hot at first but settles down the longer it is open. There is a sweetness to the wine - port-like at times. Low acid and tannins.

On this bottle, back to a plum flavor and nose. Not as much of a reduction flavor as in the past, but it's still there. Enjoyable, but the 2008 bottles had a lot more variation than the 2006, 2007 versions.

An easy drinking, fruity Zin with berry, spice, chocolate and earthy flavors, virtually no tannin, decent acidity and short finish. Makes for a comfortable summer accompaniment.

I tend to like the higher end Four Vines Zinfandels. Biker, Sophisticate, and Maverick all have unique qualities. Maverick to me is a bit jammier than the others. To me, the most predominant notes are raspberry and blackberry jam, closely followed by vanilla and oak. It's a decently complex wine, although a little lighter than the other two. Sophisticate is my favorite, but this is a nice change up.

Rich and flavorful, with notes of wild berry, plum, and spice. Good finish and seems age-worthy as well since it was quite solid on day 2.

This was on sale at the San Mateo BevMo for $13.95 and having seen the WS review (92 pts) of the 2011 vintage, I decided to give it a try. A youthful-looking deep purple in color, lightening a bit at the edge. Subdued aromas of dark fruits, earth and a hint of vanilla on the nose. Medium-to-full-bodied and very smooth, with loads and loads of ripe, sweet fruit. Shows nice depth and length, but this is essentially a plum and raspberry fruit bomb. The smooth finish features velvety tannins, though it is just a bit too sweet. Not exceptional, but nonetheless quite enjoyable - especially for the price.

Dark red/purple center with violet rim. Expressive, ripe nose of plum, blueberry, blackberry, spice, and pepper. The palate is earthy with a peppery start followed by plums and blackberry. This wine is medium-bodied with solid acidity and resolved tannins. The finish is moderate with a peppery edge. Overall, this wine was good but nothing was terribly memorable. I was surprised that this wine was earthy rather that fruit-packed.

This is a big and rich zin, with good structure. It has a lot of fruit, but isn't jammy like a lot of zins. Something this big is best paired with BBQ-type fare. Very nice for the price.

Consistent with my tasting note from eighteen months ago. Fully in its drinking window, but by no means over the hill. It paired well with a plateful of Texas BBQ with black pepper rub.

Developing a brick tint and on the nose there is a mature, earthy character. The palate is medium bodied with jam, blackberry, blackcurrant, and blueberry.

See through dark crimson almost to rim; a touch of sulfur, restrained jamminess, smoke, currant; dark red to blue fruit, mid seemed good without being sugary, blueberry, nice tartness and balance, smoky finish; I liked this a lot more than the Biker.

Light extraction, dull garnet core with pale rim; jammy red fruit, currant, plum, cherry, raspberry, smells sweet; round, simple, jammy and sweet- check for cavities, blueberries on the finish; not great.

Very nice, though simple CA chardonnay. Lemon pith, a touch of creaminess and some minerality, decent acidity and a medium finish. Pretty good QPR on this one.
