Again, I opened this with trepidation but again there was no disappointment. A really solid Zin and still drinking well.

Great color and nose. Excellent w a ratatouille appetizer. Never a bad wine from Peter Haywood's Los Chamizal Vyd.

This is holding up damn well for going on a decade. There's a thin brick rim, but no age shows up on the palate. Strawberries and leather on the nose. More fresh strawberries, cherry, cloves, cinnamon, and licorice for flavors. Long, delicate finish -- rides out almost like pinot. Since following the drunken cyclist a while back, I've aged more zin. Glad for it tonight.

Nice deep rich garnet to ruby color, nose was pleasing with a hint of cherry and smoke. Need to let it breath/decant for at least 30 minutes. Good body, easy on the palate with hints of fruit and smoke.

I'm not a huge zin drinker but this bottle was very worthwhile. Traditional styled. Fruity. Medium bodied. Alcohol in check. Strawberry. Blood orange. Raspberyy. No chunky thick fruit bomb at all. Good.

Based upon some reviews, I thought this might be past it's date. Still great with food. Two bottles left for next year. We shall see.

Decent wine paired with food, especially something a little spicy. Nothing special on its own. Tried to give it a few hours of open time but never really changed. A little bit of a bite to it.

Medium dark red color. Mostly a chocolate raspberry nose, with a bit of raisin, prune and a growing stamp of oak spices. On arrival, low tannin and medium-low acidity. Fruit is still here (raspberry, cherry, dried and fresh each) but are succumbing to time's reduction in freshness. The original balance with oak is gone, and this bottle has swung towards a more forward heavy oak effect and a more oxidized fruit basket hidden behind. Not really my preference in aged zinfandel. Drink now - don't wait - to experience something close to its original charm. Bottle #6 of six.

This is a spicy, delicious zin. Fruit up front but not jammy at all. Nice finish.

Dark red color. Ripe nose, raisin-y, and burnt skins related, if not a high percentage of raisin-ed clusters. On arrival, medium tannin and medium-low acidity. Flavors are correct for straight ahead zin from a very warm site (Amador county, Lodi, etc), but gosh - this comes from a beautiful vintage for zin growing, sourced from typically well-tended, mature plantings, fairly low yield and much cooler Sonoma Valley hillside parcels. Harvested too late for my taste but there is something here for lovers of that style.

I was going to rate this a solid 89, but I saved some until the next day, and wow, we are at 91 (so I averaged at 90). Had it with food at first when we ran through a bottle of cab, but second day we drank by itself. It was incredibly smooth, fruity, and delicious. Slightly sweet, perhaps, but terrific after dinner.

Open for 30 minutes. Followed my own advice and drank this in one sitting. We enjoyed it very much. Dark fruits with a touch of pepper at the end. Not a great Zin but a pretty good one.

Very nice. Nose of fruit, spice, and a hint of vanilla. If you really search for it, you can even pick up a bit of butter hidden in there. There's not a lot of fruit on the palate, which is typical for older Zins. Very good spice, going to some oak. Good tannins provide structure, but the tannins have been softened with age. A very good Zinfandel, as long as you're not looking for a "fruit bomb."

The wine is a violet color, with slow-forming legs. Wonderful nose of raspberry and peppery spice with a little vanilla and nutmeg.
On the palate, a little heat with loads of raspberry, some cherry pit, blackberry, creme de cassis and brambly pepper. Mild oak with medium, almost-but-not-quite chewy tannins with powdered mocha notes on the medium finish.
There is a lot to like about this wine but there is also a little bit of an "off" note. I can't quite put my finger on it. It's slightly bitter and metallic in nature, yet also seems almost vegetative - like asparagus (queue the "Sideways" jokes).
After some time in the glass, the bitter note does not blow off but it does fade into the background as the fruit and spice become more dominant. However it comes back into focus, lingering as an aftertaste long after the finish.
It might become better integrated with additional bottle time. This wine seems like it is just now entering its optimal drinking window and should peak over the next 12-24 months.

Got caught short and had to PNP this one. Still cool from the cellar but what a gem. Perhaps our best one so far.
