Hint of berry, leather, earthy, sour cherry, mixed with wood smell. Acidity make the high alcohol not become so hot, but still feel the fat of the taste.

Good to pair with food rather than drinking alone.

Dark crimson red. Bold and complex reminiscent of grilling over an outdoor fire. Ripe cherry, red plum, smoke, roast, moss, and firm tannins. Good for many more years. Needs food, needs time open, or can be a bit palate tiring.

Dark, nearly purple. Decant. Quit a mineral nose with slate, graphite, mushroom, moss, along with cherry plums. Rich, complex, and beguiling wine with prominent elements of black pepper on the palate to compliment the nose. Medium long finish.

Food: Chinese Northern
Duration: 1.5 hours
Condition: perfect
Aroma: honey, light hints of petrol, some citrus
Notes: hints of coffee and caramel in the aftertaste. High side on the acidity. This wine doesn't offer too much complexity but I have to say it tastes much better with food than without. I highly doubt if there can be much future development in this wine so I recommend it to drink now-2020.

Deep ruby red.
Red berry fruits, light dried herbs, hint of fragrant mustard seed and garrigue. Clean and bright.
Red and some blue berries, tar and licorice spice, very smooth and balanced. Very classy finish, subtle acidity and very fine but plentiful tannins. Comes across as still very youthful, not especially developed, could be a bit more interesting. No hard edges, impressively suave. Come back in 5 years.

Only the second time having this wine, the first was 2 years ago. A GS blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah from 55+ y.o. vines, aged in French oak barrels. Deep bordeaux red towards purple, with on the nose blackberries, plums, smoked wood, leather and coffee. Medium to full-bodied, with on the palate ripe blackberries, cassis, raspberries, loamy dirt, earthy minerals, pencil shavings, followed by tart cranberries, smoked meat and tobacco with medium-plus acidity and ripe tannins that coat the mouth with notes of charcoal and dark chocolate on the long and balanced finish. Another great QPR, I like this wine a lot. 14.5% Abv. 91-92

From magnum this was terrific. It smells of brown sugar, forest floor, smoked meats and raisins. It is sweet and vinous in the mouth with some truffle notes and plenty of earth. It is only just mid-weight but well balanced and is quite fresh on the finish.

Impromptu Saturday Double Blind Tasting $30-$50 (Bin 75): Very dark core, opaque, reddish violet rim; tar, blackberry, inky, menthol, dense, compact, graphite; dense, plush, tannin, sweet dense dark fruit, good acid but sort of restrained- ripe vintage, pencil lead, young; not giving a bunch of clues but I nailed it.

Rich, fruit bomb style of CdP. Heavy on the cassis; so rich it is almost port like -- scratch that, it is like a liqueur; huge amount of oak to offset that fruit; a bit too hot. Tons of black licorice and spice; really over the top but still enjoyable. A good value if you don't mind the fruit forward style.

Despite my misgivings about this producer, the wine proved to be quite fresh and mineral with distinct olive notes and a red fruited profile. Plenty of acidity here, but with air the wine fleshed out without losing its freshness. Distinctly N Rhone Syrah.

Dark red/violet in the glass. Wine was clear after double decanting, which was needed, to remove sediment. Completely integrated nose composed of blackberry, anise, bitter chocolate, and mint. Wonderfully supple on the palate with black fruit, violets, and earth. Fully resolved structure, with some barely detectable powdery tannins. Very long, and smooth, blackberry/mint finish. Outstanding bottle, fully resolved and integrated.

Deep, dark garnet in color with ever-so-slight clearing at the edges; almost opaque. Full, fragrant, attractive & complex nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & blueberries with kirsch & garrigue overtones, floral notes, dried Provençal herbs, earthy, dusty, spice notes, some sandalwood & mint, licorice, beefy, leather, minerals, a hint of pepper followed by cedar. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of complex, smooth textured, well balanced, seamless, ripe fruit flavors of sweet cherries, tart cranberries & dark plums with herbs, exotic spices, anise, pepper, mint, minerals & toasted oak. Long lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & airing, but it is still in its ascendency with the potential for further development from additional 5-8 years of aging.

Evidently some severe bottle variation here. Opened and decanted several hours before dinner. Very dark red color. Nose is black fruit, repeating on the palate. No plummy, pruney or oxidative notes. Not terribly complex but a good wine that can hold for some time still.
