Ran this through the Vinturi. Nice earthiness at first, but after a couple of hours open it turned sour and acidic. Capped the rest in a 375ml and will try tomorrow. Right now, not all that impressed.

Aerated and drank ... nice! Poured a nice clear light ruby red. Cherries and raspberries on the nose and palate with a nice integration of vanilla and acid. Very enjoyable.

Love it. Not overly complex but hits the right balance of fruit and minerality without that bitter finish I find in some roses. Goes down easy...

Well I didn't comply with my last proclamation that I'd attempt not tasting this wine for a couple years. Glad I failed as the purported tannins seem pretty much resolved. The aromas and flavors are much the same as my tasting on 2/27/15. This time it pairs well with grilled pork chops. Everything I indicated in my last notes are still applicable. And, especially so in the high pines above Prescott.

A bottle that I believed to have all the elements of a flop turned out to be exceedingly pleasant: a great buy, hold, and enjoy at maturity - tremendous QPR.

An interesting wine. Very California-sytled. Notes of cherry, cola, forest floor, caramel, plum and a touch of licorice, and showing its 15.2% alcohol. Not especially faithful to the varietal, this wine would be great with barbecue. We had it with salmon (Atlantic and sockeye) and it was especially good with the sockeye and the sautéed mushrooms.

Good QPR for $15 but not for $40 retail.

Drink now (before the fruit fades and the alcohol becomes more prominent)

I personally did not like this wine. It is a bit sharp at first sip, and never really settled into being smooth. I would not buy again.

Citrus yellow color, medium legs. Green apple and honeysuckle on the nose. On the palate, fresh grass, butter, and a mild pineapple citrus. Buttery mid-palate. Really nice.

Very dark ruby for a Pinot-seems to be aging quickly. typical SLH with cola, dark cherry nose. Not earth. On the second day, more of the fruit emerged for a fruit forward, upfront wine with no mid palate and then too much cola and a too tart acid on the finish which was also too astringent with tannin and not PN elegance or silkiness. A genuine disappoint as I am a fan of the producer and the vineyard, but this wine is way out of balance.

7/1/2015 - Snoman Likes this wine: 92 points

Clean and clear, touch of straw in color, and pretty stone-fruit based aromas. Palate opens with a touch of Meyer lemon, expanding into flavors of white peach and green melon, showing a small splash of vanilla, crisp and lip-smacking acidity, and finishes long, showcasing a slate-like minerality tinged with a touch of sea salt. Delicious, and will NEVER be confused with Rombauer. What a California Chardonnay should strive to be, showing intensity of flavor, clear terroir notes, and age-worthy balance. Will improve over the next 5 years+. Compare to a fine Saint Aubin Burgundy.

2012 Sanford Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict

Sta. Rita Hills more

7/1/2015 - Snoman Likes this wine: 92 points

Good example of why Sanford is back to the label's original reputation, and farming the estate vineyards with the same scrutiny that Richard did when still in ownership. Looks like Terlato is upping the game for the last few years, for sure. Medium-dense in color, offering a richness of red fruits and snappy sea air to the nose, it's apparent at first sip this is a classic Sta. Rita hills classic. Fruit is restrained just enough to not dominate the minerally, sea salt aspects of this fine, cool-climate terroir, and notes of cardamom and spice add complexity in the mouthwatering, long finish. Terrific effort, takes advantage of a superb vintage in SRH.

2012 Denner The Ditch Digger

Paso Robles Grenache Blend, Grenache more

7/1/2015 - Snoman Likes this wine: 92 points

Great example of a California CdP blend, and typical of Denner, shows terrific winemaking, richness and clarity of varietals in the blend, intensity of flavors, and well-balanced all the way through the medium+ finish. Mouthwatering acidity and a touch of tannin predict a 10-year aging window.
