Very honest Pauillac. Nice blackcurrant, very elegant, almost Burgundian.
Fine tannins, Miss D says yummy. She guessed the vintage correctly. She wants a medal.

Drinking brilliantly but with a little life left too. Beautiful deep burgundy, with notes of polished dark redwood and few signs of age. On the nose cassis with hints of chocolate and a little mint - which become more menthol-like at the back of the nose. The smell is both restrained and powerful. Good structure. Black fruits with notes of mushroom and wood. Dryness resulting from some soft, nicely integrated tannins. Cassis and some slight spice on the long finish.

Removed from cellar this lunch time and stood for 4 hours. Opened 1 hour prior to decanting just before serving. Good colour and lovely bouquet on decanting. On the palete a little astringent to begin with but came together ok. Some fruit and reasonable length for a 34 year old wine. PS the picture of the 81 bottle is not mine but my bottle has the same red mark on the label. Spooky.

Good classic Bordeaux. Very dusty and dry appearance, but still flawless left bank Bordeaux. Probably works best with food.

After 21 years in the cellar I was very curious to see how it had developed since last visit some years ago. Great intense bouquet with cigar box, black current, very classic Haut Medoc. Poweful tast, still fresh, a lot of dark fruit, black current, quite smoth tannins, but with a grip. Would have continued to develop another 10 years. Perfectly balanced with a long, long finnish. Great stuff. I wish I would have had another bottle!

High acid for the vintage. Good stuffing but not much charm. Needs two or tree more years.

This is in a very good place right now. No notes taken at the time but this held up very well on night two and should age further.

From Magnum bottle. First slightly closed, but opened up significantly over the course of the evening. Very classic and old-school St-Julien aromatics of dark berries (black currant/cassis, black cherries), pine tree, spices, some cedar wood, graphite/lead pencil... all in a cool/classic style. It's medium-full bodied with high acidity and high tannin that is present but very good quality. Good length. A very impressive classic and restrained kind of Bordeaux from this vintage, that produced very classic and old-school (in the best sense of the word) tasting wines. I would give it a few more years in the bottle though. (95+)

Excellent. Équilibre, puissance, finesse. Nez qui s'ouvre sur des notes de poussière, de bleuet, de fruit noir. Profond. Tannins serrés et enrobés. Bouche ample et longue. Finale réjouissante. Peut vieillir encore plusieurs années. De la classe.

Remarkably good for the price. As you'd expect there is plenty of black fruit and tannin but it's has already integrated pretty well - retaining a touch of chewiness but nothing overbearing. The palate and is surprisingly interesting - some raspberry, licorice and the oaking is refined and in the background.

Bang for buck - for sub-£20 this is an excellent left bank "petit"

Enjoyable but it seemed a little greener this time. Definitely not showing as well as the last few bottles I've had. I'm hoping this was caused by the Riesling we had earlier.

Perfumed nose with toast, cabbage, cassis, plum. Deep and pure. Velvety texture on the palate, some oak, medium body, berries, decent mid palate and grainy tannins. Very good, nicely evolved but missing some finesse, great for the price though.

Moderately dark red ruby color with some bricking around the rim. Filtered / decanted. Pleasant old world nose of leather, some forest floor, a little tar. Palate similar to nose, but still tight. Consistent notes over 2 days.

A pointe. Perfectly integrated but not tired, this attractive middleweight shows dark brambly fruit, some earthy secondary characteristics, and a hint of graphite. Expressive both on the nose and the palate, and the texture is silky smooth. Not super concentrated but the balance is impeccable and time has given this some complexity. Absolutely lovely.

Fourth of July at Wes & Cassandra's (Ravenna): This had been opened for a bit when I got there. Obviously young and there is a lot of room for improvement. Cassis, some leather, blueberries, spice and fresh cut lumber on the nose. Very pretty and young. Lovely, lush texture. The palate is very tight but is delicious right now. Cassis and spice mixed with slight oak in the glass. Deep and bottomless. Lovely balance. Long finish. In twenty years, this may merit a close to perfect score. Wonderful today though with some air.

Dinner with Mrs L's lawyer girlfriends + other halves (At home, Hong Kong): Since there weren't any serious "wine folk" among tonight's dinner crowd, I thought there was no need to break out the big guns. But we still needed something very decent and enjoyable. This fit the bill perfectly. Nicely mature, with a dark and dignified mineral character and generous helpings of beautiful black fruit, this magnum was a treat (as last bottles of anything often are, I find...)

Very good nose when decanting. Good fruit on first tasting - mainly dark berries at this stage. Good balance. Set aside for a few hours to 'stretch its legs'.
3h later, great nose, still. Some cherry fruit on the palate but turning to damson/skins with blueberries and mulberries later. Some 'vanilla ice cream'. Good acidity, soft tannins and unusual length.
Accompanied roast loin of pork with the usual trimmings very well.
Later, 5h after opening, the 'maraschino cherry' flavour I mentioned in an earlier note had emerged. Have faith - this wine is still developing but doesn't offer everything as soon as the bottle is opened.

Brick red but still a very deep dark core. A somewhat subdued nose of cigar box, plums, and apple pie. Plush, ripe and very much alive palate. Some slightly baked/raisiny character to the fruit, but hey, there's still fruit after 39 years so I'm not complaining. Overall much better than I expected. (92 Very good wine)

A good whiff of dark fruit and creamy vanilla in the nose, which after some decanting gave way to some familiar lead pencil and faint tarry notes. There is good balance in the wine, and it wasn't overly heavy. But even for a youngish wine as this, I thought follow through on the palate was a little short, and there wasn't much complexity that could hold my interest for long. Not bad, but not remarkable either -- for now
