2006 Ségla

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend more

Lovely bouquet with dark fruits, mocha and sweet currants. The finish is also excellent with medium length and sustain fruit. The palate was the weaker area, as this wine had its hard edges and struggled a bit to find the right balance. Excellent and an improvement over the same bottle I had a few years back.

2 hour decant. Drank with grilled Sockeye salmon, corn on the cob, fresh cooked green beans, green salad.
Good pairing. The wine is medium to heavy, fruit forward, nice mouthfeel with medium tannins, medium acidity and 14% alc.

Delicious and more balanced than expected given the year. Of course it was drunk next to a 2004 Harlan Maiden and blew it away. Not the leanest Sociando but a great 03

Starting to enter its drinking window in my opinion. Decanted 3 hours since it was completely shut down on opening. High toned red fruit on the nose. Similar profile on the palate with cherry and cranberry dominating. Nice acidity to keep it fresh. Tannins still noticeable but not detracting from the wine. I will keep my last bottle for another couple of years.

A great claret. Cool, dark, fruit with undertones of soot and earth. Give your bottles some more time and their secondary tones will build. Love the weight on the palate...which is minimal. comes across as something approachable and tasty.

Definitely better than expected based on other's notes. Definitely aged. Brownish color, lots of sediment and that characteristic taste of a 20 year old wine. Other than that strawberries, a bit on the lighter side tannins are mostly gone although there is still just a tad of astringency left. Not particularly deep but not unpleasant in any way.

Inky in the glass with a nose of plums, violets and saffron. A bit tannic still, the wine is a bit closed, but has promise. Some notes of forest floor, blackberry and spice, but it needs more time. I would say at least 2 years before it mellows a bit.

Tasted blind, this wine had a red/purple center and orange rims. The medium+ intensity nose displayed ripe cherries, soil, and some spices.

In the mouth it was reasonably well balanced in a mature, light-weight manner.

I see no reason to wait.

Classic Margaux. Lovely floral nose of lilac and violet. Medium, ruby color with no evidence of bricking. Raspberry, cassis and currant on the palate, balanced nicely by leather and earthy notes. Medium bodied with a long, lingering finish highlighted by silky tannins. I admit to having a challenge calibrating these 1998 Bordeaux. By all "experts" a mediocre vintage that should be consumed now. Yet my experience with them has been very good. Friend and wine buddy Rick brought a 1995 Chateau Clerc Milon Pauillac which presented an intriguing comparison in terroir and style. Accompanied a dinner of NY Strip Steak, new potatoes and haricots vert flavored with a touch of pearl onion.

Creamy, cherry black fruits, greeness, a bit of spice toward the end. Fairly short finish. While it's not a memorable bottle, we definitely enjoyed it.

Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend more

Three times decanted and afterwards kept for five hours. Color: dark purple. Nose: good cassis fruit. Taste: much, good cassis. Good acidity. Still much tannins and with 13,5% alcohol a bit burning. At the fourth day with a nice herbal nose with laurel, and the tannins were resolved. This might going to be an attractive wine because of the fruit, but for now there are no signs of future complexity. Also I wonder whether there is enough stuff to balance the alcohol. To keep for at least two years. Potentially 86-87+.

Color: dark purple with a ruby note. Nose: cassis, minerals. Taste: good cassis, good minerals. OK acidity. The tannins were still dominant. At the fourth day markedly less tannic, with a nice herbal, brett-like note. With 13,5% the alcohol was a bit burning. In the quite fresh style that I know from this chateau. Although lacking some more concentration, it was already quite enjoyable, but this wine will probably be better with keeping. Potentially 86+.

One hour decanted. Color: quite dark ruby-purple, no orange rim. Nose: poivre vert with nice floral notes and with depth. Taste: a bit poivre vert with a bit harshness, nice black fruit, some mint, with a nice sweetness and nice depth. A quite delicious wine already that needs one or two more years of cellaring. For now 87-88, potentially 88-89+.

Color: dark purple. Nose: lush fruit of mostly black berries. Taste: lush fruit with a mint-like note and a bit of chocolate. Good concentration and acidity. Soft tannins, that were not fully resolved yet. Like all 2009s to much alcohol for me (14,5%) and because of that quite burning. A good Medoc, that will benefit from one or two years cellaring. Potentially 86+.
