I have always liked this wine. Really drinking well tonight. Tell-tale sweet red cherry fruit and minerals. No green. A balanced, middle weight wine that has plenty going for it. A real treat considering the vintage. Nice to have some burgundy after the Syrah / Grenache binge of ’15 summer. (91)

Leather, dry earth, black cherry and red fruits. Light spice after a while. The tannins on this bottle required more time to moderate. Not quite as expressive as my last bottle, this one could have benefited from more air time but I was too impatient.

Tasting from barrel at domaine. 100% whole cluster from a 2 yo barrel. Dark fruit aromas and flavors with modest density ans subtle spice. This went through very early ML and is showing a bit clumsy to me, which might be the result.

This was a very interesting wine. The fruit has faded into the background and is hardly noticeable at times, but the wine comes off fresh and interesting with just floral and earth notes. Lavender notes on the nose with some red fruit. The palate is dominated by fresh pine, stone, and graphite. Excellent balance in the wine and a medium finish. A unique experience for me. Drinking well right now (now - 2019)

An odd bottle. This had been opened the evening before and I was told it came across as lean and thin. Today it was still lean but showed a bitter edge I'd never expect from this producer in this vintage. Somehow flawed?

Dark cerise. Restrained nose of rose petal, confection, minerals. Intensely focused palate of violets, violets, violets, with some hints of Turkish delight and red currants. Prominent astringent tannins. Tremendous length. Very approachable but probably at least 5 years from peak?

2nd of 6, perfect fill, pnp, previous note very good - purply, dusty red; plums/ dansons, earth; fullish, long, dusty tannins, burly, better than first bottle, needs to settle down. At best very good indeed (17/20).

The cork was 85% covered in wine, including the top of the cork. I let this breathe up in the glass for three hours. The wine was sound. Lovely garnet dust color. Aromas of potpourri flowers, spice and sweat. Slick entry. This offers dried cherry, slate and sweet tarts. Lively acids. There is a lingering, tart calling card. No rush. 90

Rather bright purple colour. Tight nose, and quite a tannic grip. A bit of liquorice and nice tertiary notes. Drinking very well right now. I don't think it'll improve a whole lot further.

7th of 12 - much less convincing than last October's note with fruit more attenuated and a pinched finish, just when this wine seemed to have settled into a fine maturity with the vintage's acidity lifting the flavour profile, it now seems to have relapsed to its slightly disjointed former self. Very good plus (16.5/20).

Nose of light red fruit, dry earth, and chalk. Palate brings much of the same with light spice as well. Sharp and short finish which while typical of many young Taillepieds, deteriorates after 45 minutes, making me suspect of how far this wine is ultimately capable of evolving.

Wow, this was accessible right out of the gate. It was actually very fruity and open - not what I associate think of as the house style here, but I love it. Although there's tons of beautiful fruit on the nose and palate, it's still a solidly old world wine - no powdered sugar or cherry cola here. Lots of chewy structure - shows no signs of slowing down despite the "early" vintage.

Recorked in 2014, stunningly fresh and young tasting, with a dollop of cherry, pine, vanilla right in the centre of the palette. Good gourmand experience and a luscious finish. What a treat.

Lelong Lunch (Pine Close): Montille did well in 1997 – this bottle was one of several good Volnay 1er Crus that we have had from the vintage over the past few years. Its nose showed rich aromas of plums and blackberries, with dusty earth and a savoury meatiness, then wafts of dark floral notes and brush herbs curling around the back of the bouquet. Very pleasant. The palate had a pleasing richnes for 1997 1er Cru, with ripe plum and blackberry fruit notes playing against a meaty backdrop. Well balanced and nicely structured, it was drinking nicely on the night. At the finish, the backpalate was dusted with a bit of earth and herb and something vaguely floral that reminded me of violets. A solid, if unspectacular bottle. This was enjoyable.

A beautiful wine showing a high level of acidity and deep, dark fruit. Beautifully aromatic and surprisingly open for a 1999. It held its own on a table with many impressive Burgundies at La Mangeoire.

The 1997 Angerville Taillepieds opens up in the glass to reveal an attractive nose of black cherry, woodsmoke, chocolate and earthy sous bois. On the palate the wine is rich and quite textural, with a very bright core of acidity that really needs a few more years in the cellar to come into balance. While the aromatics are initially rather torrifed they freshen up and comes together appealingly. A pleasure to taste one of Jacques d'Angerville's wines.

Very pretty, complex and alluring on the nose, but austere and noticeably green and stemmy on the palate. Showed slightly more strawberry and pomegranate fruit the next day, but still not enough. 2007 was an "off" vintage and this was available at a greatly reduced price ($55) when I purchased it several years ago. Still quite disappointing and further evidence that there are absolutely no bargains to be found anywhere in the Cote-d'Or these days.

La Paulée de New York - The Verticals (Colicchio & Sons - New York NY): Tasted in 09/02/99 vertical, brief note. Lots of red berry with classically Volnay spice. Very good balance of fruit, spice and structure that still comes across as slightly backward, so don't race and open bottles in the cellar.

La Paulée de New York - The Verticals (Colicchio & Sons - New York NY): Tasted in 09/02/99 vertical, brief note. clearly rich and ripe red and black cherry with charming spice. Ripeness nicely balanced with very good acidity, minerality and overall textures. Easy to think it ripe and simple, but this is quietly serious and intense, and my fav of the vertical.
