Bottle disgorged Jul-2013, so this might be 2010 base. A incomprehensibly "tired" bottle. Very subtle nose with green apples, flowers and little else... minimal mousse, almost no bubbles and almost no trace on nose nor palate of chalk, yeast, bread or any other typical flavor from this cuvee. Moreover, while carrying medium acidity, it lacked the energy it usually shows in its youth. It wasn't a bad or flawed bottle, just less enjoyable, simple and more boring than any other I had before.

100% Chard from ungrafted vines. This is a serious, delicious drink, with plenty of baked apple on nose and linear on palate, tasty with laser focus acidity and showing some minerality. Perfect for seafood or heavy dishes, makes you go back for more. Tastes young for a 2000.

So this wine was in a difficult position, being tasted between a 88 Lafon Clos de la Barre and a 82 Ramonet Batard-Montrachet but showed the beauty of a very good vintage even for a village wine.
Certainly a mature wine that showed its age, starting by its dark color.

Very closed on glass, had reduction aromas that needed more than an hour to dissipate but when it did, showed an interesting nose made of mature peach, ashes, smoke, toffee and candy. A medium bodied palate mirrors the nose with peach flavors, a remarkable acidity that fades after a couple hours and a tad sweet finish.

A meritorious effort that still drinks well at 30 years old but obviously way past its peak. Understandably, the less enjoyable of the whites. 87-89

Opened for one hour and drank over two more. Opulent, powerful nose with lemon and citrus aromas, kept evolving in glass. More interesting in palate: tasty, grassy, citrus, medium bodied with a high, refreshing acidity that asks you to taste it again to savour that long finish. An excellent example from a fresh vintage that still drinks beautiful now and probably for a few more years. 92-93

Vineyard recovered in 1986, hence 3rd vintage for Lafon. Lot located in the low section of the vineyard that translates into a more opulent but fresher wine than its neighbors.

Much better than previous bottles anticipated. Drank this one during two days. Modern, powerful wine that offers the usual ripe black fruits, vanilla scent, black pepper... but this time it's more elegant on palate, it has velvety tannins combined with a pungent acidity that makes it delicious by its own and even more with a good steak. Fresher and smooth on day two. Very well done, I would say it's well into drinking window and with at least 5 years being at its peak. 91-92

An incredible, gorgeous villages with plenty of everything... lemon, cheese, minerality, superb palate with olily texture, light but with an excellence balance of acidity, weight and structure. It smells and tastes Raveneau all over it. Too bad this is almost impossible to find around.

PnP. Shut down on nose, this wine needs about 1-2 hours of areation and barely showed black fruit and chinese ink on nose. On palate it's still powerful, with plenty of tannins and acidity, black fruit and chocolate. Great with steak, hard to drink alone.

No formal notes. Not as complex nor interesting as the 18/04/14 bottle. Initially showed some acetate but nevertheless this was a good, almost spectacular bottle with plenty of concentration, salinity and almonds. A joy.

Bottle was previously opened for an hour and consumed over two more. Initially showed significant reduction - a decant would have benefit the wine - but it slowy opened, offering subtle red fruit and white pepper. On palate this wine carried a high acidity with a prominent metallic/mineral flavors and overall was elegant, smooth and with a long finish.

PnP at a restaurant. I bit reticent on nose, barely shows some lemon, candy, honey... Palate also tight but gains complexity with air... delicious honeyed and oily texture, very mineral driven and a superb long finish. Obviously very young and a bit too much on the ripe side but very good overall. 92-94

3rd bottle out of 6. Intense kirsch liquor, herbs and violets. Still very astringent on palate, carries medium acidity and with plenty of unresolved tannins. Heat is a bit present at the moment. Palate has gained weight and lost freshness. As of now, earliest bottle was the best. Not sure how is this evolving. 87-88

Similar to previous bottle 04/2015 but more crisp and pungent. White fruit on nose, more crisp and pungent on palate, stones too but also vinous although this bottle kept more present the mousse. I had another bottle from another batch and was clearly younger on palate, so maybe the problem is just my bottles.

Medium to dark ruby color. Pristine cork!!!
This is 04 is very young but already approachable if you like more intense flavors. Nose offers red fruit, licorice, some leather and even a floral touch. Palate is medium to light bodied, with plenty of fruit, some minerality / oxidation style, carrying a high acidity and unresolved tannins. The remarkable freshness reminded me a bit of an Ardanza'05. The wine is already delicious now but needs some time and I wouldn't touch a bottle for the next 5 years. (90-91).

It seems this wine evolves quite fast. 2 years after my last bottle, I bought a 6-pack and so far all bottles consumed are visually evolved, as little to no bubbles left. The wine maintains the pastry, white fruit bouquet along with a slightly sherry-like aroma and taste. It's still fresh but definitely more vinous, actually on palate it's more like a dry wine than a sparkler but drinks nice. Drink up. 86-88

Last bottle of a 6-pack and this wine has been consistently good. Bottle opened 4 days ago and today it's really signing: cedar, red dried fruit, mint and even some floral notes. While very elegant on palate, it drinks wonderful now but still has plenty of room to mature. It carries a lingering acidity that complements the savory red fruit. As noted in a previous comment, these wines seem to age at a glacial pace. To enjoy now and with plenty of years left ahead. Great QPR. 87-89

2nd bottle of 4, bought on release. Decanted for 1.5 hours. Very similar to the bottle from 3 years ago. Red fruit on nose, licorice and a spicy touch. Lush, fresh, mineral driven with a lot of red fruit in palate, still unresolved tannins and some dryness. IMO, FB hit a home run in 08, the freshness, focus and purity achieved in this vintage it's outstanding. 91-93

From .50cl, super intense nose with plenty caramel, raisin, burnt sugar and some acetone scent. Thick, sticky sweet, voluptous with a long finish, and all in all, it's plain delicious specially with that dark chocolate cake. Not very familiar with sweet PX but this one is very good indeed. 91-94

I have been drinking a couple of bottles and this wine is very consistent. It's has a nice mix of old style and young Rioja, leading to an aged, very likeable tempranillo. Nose shows subtle red fruit, dried herbs, mushrooms, old wood (24 to 30 months barrel ageing). Palate it's Rioja. It replicates the nose with just a sweet mid palate touch. Feels medium to light bodied and the 13.5 abv helps a lot to make it easy to drink and looking for another glass.
Despite the youth and the average vintage, this drinks very well now. Add the retail price it's a joke and you have an daily drinker that can age and improve for years.

Drank after a heavy lunch and it worked very well. Mineral, stones and bread/yeast on nose. Very racy on palate, mineral, direct and vertical as it cuts like a knife but also has the volume and structure of the 2008 base. Wish I had more. Plenty of life ahead.

As aperitif. Better than 2 years ago. Plenty of baked apple, some minerality and yeast. On palate the mousse is more gentle, vinous, with high acidity and a remarkable minerality at the finish. Good now and my guess is that should improve over the next 5 years.

P&P. Typical nose with citrus, saline scent, butter and wet stones. On palate it's pungent - carries a medium+ acidity - but at the same time it has an oily texture and buttery taste, along with a remarkable minerality. I drank this over two days and barely felt any difference (maybe more bodied on day two). This-is-good. 90-91

A blend of Viura, Malvasia and some blanc grenache result in an impressive, hedonistic wine. Needs a lot of air, as it's a full bodied white wine, very aromatic with a super bouquet made of white fruit, honey and minerality. Love this wine. 91++

PnP. Slightly oxidative on nose along with hints of lemon and saline notes, a very subtle sherry-like nose because of the veil ageing. Mouth coating and savory on palate with a remarkable salty taste. Very nice, wonderful with paella.
