Black cherry and other black fruits. Touches of appealing jubiness and black pepper. Powdery tannin and acid balanced just right. Finish adequate and as such the only thing holding this back from a higher score, everything else really good on this one. Night two: Raspberry comes out to play, aniseed. The light structure has melted away some to be even lighter.

Blackcurrant, currants, leather, some meatiness, plum. Tannin perhaps the highlight, caressed the tongue, finish outstanding. Pretty close to its peak I think though not likely to fade quickly.

Cherry, mulberry, leather, fair plank of wood. Heaps of tannin but ample balance and length. Really enjoyed drinking this. Stands on the border between macho and masculine. Perfect with a steak sandwich. Screaming bargain, available at Aldi for $9.

Nectarine, almonds, citrus, lots more. Body, texture, balance, length. Great to drink. Enjoyed this bottle over five hours, each subsequent glass had more going for it than the one previous. So I think this is likely to improve with more cellar time. Score for final glass.

Tinned pear and honeysuckle. Body and a nice line of acid. Lengthy finish. Pleasantly surprised by this. A Kiwi Gris, loud. Have seen another vintage of this described as Gris for Savvy drinkers, and in terms of loudness that's a fair call, but thankfully on a more enjoyable portion of the fruit spectrum for my tastes.

Irresistibly ripely fruited. Great to drink. Plums, currants, dark chocolate. Blackcurrant. Dried leaf though is it gum or bay? Full bodied, fleshy, minimal structure, fine silty tannins. Balance spot on, finishes long. Shiraz flesh on stricter cabernet backbone is how it seemed to me at times, unusual for a cab shiraz blend that the components seem so distinct. I like this best of any Scribbler vintage that I've tried.

First sniff mulberry and dust, so immediately in my good books. To taste, at ten years old, comes across as a youthful MR cabernet of restrained, controlled power. Blackcurrant, red berries, dark chocolate. Graphite, a touch of mint, maybe spearmint, also with air a touch of capsicum. Black tea like tannins, lots of. Balanced well enough, though sometimes the acid sticks out. Finish is impressively long. So, many elements of this wine are outstanding, but somehow it doesn't flow from start to finish as an outstanding wine. Not quite the sum of its parts. Maybe in time. Tasted over six hours, so gave it a fair chance tonight. To be truthful that first sniff was my favourite moment.

In short, classic South Australian shiraz. Plums, some raspberry, milk chocolate, twist of pepper. Dark and brooding savoury elements lurking underneath hold great promise for the future, but worth cracking one open now for my tastes. Dusty tannin, well balanced by fresh acidity, alcohol at 14.5% but doesn't stick out. Length more than ample. Probably being a points miser here. Great stuff.

Ripe raspberry, blackberry, plum. Molasses and iron filings. Vanilla. Pepper. Structure and finish both spot on. Yum. Thankfully has restored my faith in The Dead Arm. Had a bottle of this a couple of years ago which was nowhere near as good, both screwcap.

Blueberry, cherry, white pepper, peanuts, spice. Balance, freshness, length. Doubtless lots more going on, but the wife and I smashed through this bottle faster than any other in memory, drinking not thinking. Wasn't in that mood when I opened the bottle, but the wine pretty much dictated that approach. Fabulous to drink.

Glowing greeny gold in the glass. Rich, complex, powerful, looooong. I am no good with chardy flavour descriptors, so will leave those to others. But I know what I like. This. Needs a decant to be fully enjoyed now, years ahead of it. Really only hitting its stride after the bottle has been open five hours. 94 or 95. Sadly, the last of my 3 bottles.

The most smashable red I have tasted in the past couple of years. But more than simply smashable. Wonderfully ripe blueberry, other assorted blue and red fruits, touches of lightly toasted nuts, leatherwood honey, cream. And structure. Gritty fleshy tannin. Fresh acidity. Length. My first Woods Crampton, gotta try more of the range now, and drink more of this for sure.

Screw cap bottle. Decanted and then enjoyed over six hours. After one hour the dominant element was not quite ripe raspberry, also cherry, plum, pepper, florals. Elegant. Super super fine tannin. Perfectly balanced. Hour after hour this built in presence and power and intensity and length, shifting to become more savoury. My final glass smells and tastes wonderfully of meat juices, liquorice, pepper, cigar box, baking spices, sweet core of fruit in the background. Moral of the story is, if you are waiting to drink a bottle of this, it shows as an outstanding wine right now if given a lot of air, but geez I'd be tempted to wait and wait, as this is on the way to becoming something very special.

First night: Raspberry, cranberry, whiff of violets. Juicy, fleshy. Tannins between powdery and grainy. Touch of sourness. Maybe not sourness but somehow not quite balanced. Otherwise a very good to excellent wine. Came back to bottle after two nights in fridge, much improved balance. Bumped up a point and could agree with an even higher rating.

A pleasure and privilege to drink this 10 years +1 day after my 2005 wedding. Black fruits, pepper. Undertones of leather, old wood, coffee, rust. Smooth, balanced, tannin envelops the tongue on the finish. Drank from a 375 bottle after decanting for an hour. I wish the bottle had been a magnum, and wish I had another for a few years time!
