6/3/2018 - Avid Wino wrote: 91 pointsStill richly fruited. Cherry, blackberry, mulberry. Meaty. Spices and touch of cola. Excellent balance and plenty of length. Looking at my note from four years ago, I wasn’t so wowed this time and didn’t pick up so much detail ... have a mild cold, wonder if that’s the reason, or if simply that the bottle four years ago was better than tonight’s. If the latter, does it say something about the super ripe 2009 Canberra reds that were so seductive in their youth? Just musing out loud, is all. |

5/27/2018 - Avid Wino wrote: 91 pointsFantastic Chardonnay. Delicate and complex. Compelling, but so subtle that it is magnifying my usual block on Chardonnay descriptors... look up the other notes especially GW’s @ TWF. I might be under rating this significantly. Suspect it’ll look even better in a few years. |

5/13/2018 - Avid Wino wrote: 91 pointsCassis, blackberry, mint hits the nose. Palate has those too but in equal measure has savoury dried herbs, cigar box, mushrooms, sweet tannins. Excellent balance and length. Mellowed nicely and probably now at its best for my tastes, but should be fine drinking for a few more years. 91 or better. |

5/11/2018 - Avid Wino wrote: 81 pointsSO sweet. Syrupy black fruit. Little bit of spice and grip. Look, it is what it is, and on this Friday night I was in the right mood to enjoy slurping my first glass. But during the second found myself thinking “never again”. Perhaps in a few years curiosity will again get the better of me... I remember rating a previous vintage of this quite a bit higher. |

4/27/2018 - Avid Wino wrote: 89 pointsEnjoyed this! Strawberry, cherry, musk, sweet spice. Some mulchy Pinosity. Silty, shapely tannins. Touch and go for higher points but length is moderate. Huge bargain. Suspect this wine augurs well for the higher range 2017 De Bortoli Pinot Noirs. |

4/24/2018 - Avid Wino wrote: 87 pointsMulberries, currants, bay leaf, savoury elements, dusty tannin. My 1000th tasting note on cellartracker and indeed of all time... many are more descriptive than this one, some less, but I hope a few have been informative and enjoyable for others in the cellartracker community. I cracked this bottle open knowing about the 1000 note milestone, as it seemed a nice symmetry, given that my first note all the way back in 2010 was also a humble Brookland Valley Verse 1, albeit a Rose. |

4/22/2018 - Avid Wino wrote: 93 pointsCherry, raspberry, touch of sour cherry, wallet leather, liquorice, earth, coffee, vanilla. The primary elements are dialled down. Plenty of tannin but softened. Some of that mature shiraz sweetness thing. Balance and length excellent. Entering maturity and the drinking zone now, though will go another decade easy, and it’d be an interesting journey to go along on, if this wasn’t my one and only bottle. |

4/14/2018 - Avid Wino wrote: 91 pointsIn a good place. Beef, plum, berries, milk chocolate, touch of black pepper, liquorice. Mellowed. Plenty of years of evolution ahead, not anywhere near tired, though whether it improves from here will depend on your tastes. |

4/13/2018 - Avid Wino wrote: 90 pointsCherry and black fruits, pepper, spice, and some stalkiness with a confected edge... or maybe stewed... I wondered if it was something to do with the storage of this bottle. On the light side of medium bodied. Excellent balance and finish. Needed an hour of air and improved from there. |

4/9/2018 - Avid Wino wrote: 93 pointsFantastic to drink. Youthful maturity in enchanting full bloom. Lemon blossom, lemon & lime, lemon drops, some rubber. A mineral spine and fresh acidity. Make sure you don’t chill this too much, serve at 10-12 degrees. |

4/8/2018 - Avid Wino wrote: 95 pointsI have never before tasted a wine of such balance and poise... almost otherworldly, the mouth feel. Tremendous length. Berries, cherry, florals on the nose, beetrooty earthiness, a little vanilla oak, liquorice. Gentle tug of tannin. Vinfanticide I know, but I wanted to try this young, and I have more for the decades to come. Balance and length had me pondering higher points, even 97. Yet it left me wanting something more. Perhaps in time. |

4/6/2018 - Avid Wino wrote: 90 pointsConcentrated blackberry, black currant. Cedar, touch of Dutch liquorice. Cigar box. Rich, almost syrupy. A mouthful of thick, silty tannin, with air more velvet. Fresh acidity balances it up pretty well. Plenty of length. Wouldn’t be surprised if this shows better in a couple of years when it has calmed down a bit more. |

3/25/2018 - Avid Wino wrote: 93 pointsGreat drinking right now, a joy! Still primary ripe fruit - currants and black berries - also cassis, cigar box and wallet leather. Feathery tannin and plenty of length. Beginning to mature. Screwcap... and I’m starting to think that’s both good and bad for cellaring reds. In general need a lot of patience to see signs of maturity, with benefit being more reliable linear development. We’ve both gained, and lost, perhaps. I’d like to hear the thoughts of others. |

3/10/2018 - Avid Wino Likes this wine: 94 pointsFair whack of kero up front, and if you see that as fault, you won’t like this so much as I did. Beyond that, wonderfully intense citrus and citrus zest, some apple. Minerality and river pebbles. Length and finish outstanding.... still has that leprechauns dancing on tongue thing going on that it had many years ago when I first tasted as a younger wine. 94 or 95... superb drinking, in any case. |
