2003 Graham Porto Vintage

Port Blend more

2/5/2006 - pwarms wrote: 93 points

Extrodinarily dark purple. Great noise of fruit, at this point noticably less sweet smelling than most ports. Excellent range of tastes, predominantly strawberry on the first sip. As expected, this is a bit hot now, but should be great after at least 5 years.

2002 Arger-Martucci Odyssey

Napa Valley Red Bordeaux Blend more

1/4/2006 - pwarms wrote: NR

WINERY TASTING NOTE: The 2002 Odyssey is our first-ever release of a proprietary red wine based on the Cabernet varieties. The grapes for this blend are grown in our Odyssey Vineyard property 1,350 feet above the valley floor and the wine is heavily influenced by Cabernet Franc, which makes up 40% of the blend. The remainder of the blend is comprised of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% merlot with 1% Petite Verdot. The yield from these vines is low at 3 tons per acre.

Each varietal in this blend underwent extended maceration on the skins for 31 to 32 days. We believe this gives our wines a silkier texture and more intense fruit extraction. The wine was aged in a combination of France Nevers oak and Hungarian oak for 20 months, and then bottled in September of 2004.

The Cabernet Franc contributes a violet-like perfume in addition to giving roundness and elegance to the blend. The small percentage of merlot adds softness in the mouth and a touch of chocolate. The violet-like bouquet carries through with a silky feel in the mouth, which bursts with Cabernet flavors and finishes with the nuances of oak.
