4th Saturday Group brown bagger (Mark & Rochelle's): Deep color. Chocolate, blackberry, kirsch and blackberry brandy notes. Nice fruit, carries through the finish with just a hint of heat. For just over $20, this is pretty tasty.

4th Saturday Group brown bagger (Mark & Rochelle's): From 750ml, paired with a pear frangipane tart and Domino's brown butter brownies. Golden color with notes of pineapple syrup, honey, mango and apricot jam. Rich texture with honey, ripe peach, golden raisin and tropical fruit flavors. There's a slight austerity in the finish that I find a little distracting, but considering the price it's a decent value. Enjoyable now, and should last at this level for a few years.

4th Saturday Group brown bagger (Mark & Rochelle's): My second time tasting this vintage and it is just as good as the last time. Aromas of black currants, plum, forest floor, iron and green tobacco with a terrific herbal overtone. Medium-bodied and aging nicely, the tannins have softened quite a bit. Plum, red fruit, iron and dried herbs carry through the finish. Long and balanced.

4th Saturday Group brown bagger (Mark & Rochelle's): My first time with the 2003. Aromas of dark fruit, herbs and vanilla. The palate follows the bouquet. Tannins have softened nicely but it's on the simple side and really doesn't stand out as Franc. The finish is on the short side as well. I've enjoyed other vintages quite a bit, but this bottle was disappointing by comparison. 86-87 pts.

4th Saturday Group brown bagger (Mark & Rochelle's): Deep inky color. Plum, black fruit, herb and mint aromas. Big okay black fruit on the palate, with hints of meat and vanilla on the finish. With two wines left in the flight, I knew this was ours.

This had been opened five hours earlier and spent two hours in a decanter. The nose was much more expressive when first opened, but the palate was tight as a drum. It definitely needs a longer decant than I was able to give it.

Flavors of meat, dark fruit, briny black olives and a hint of pepper. Loads of fruit, good structure; long finish. A big wine, but enjoyable in this style. Guessed Syrah.

4th Saturday Group brown bagger (Mark & Rochelle's): Deep color with notes of vanilla, dark fruit, coconut, and herbs. Plenty of wood on the palate, with vanilla and spice, red and black fruit. A nice wine, with enough fruit for the oak, but somewhat generic and nondescript- I don't think anyone had much of a guess as to what variety it is or where it's from.

I'd give this another year or two in hope that the oak is a bit more integrated.

4th Saturday Group brown bagger (Mark & Rochelle's): Aromas of grapefruit, raspberry, cabbage rolls and perfumed red fruit. Sour strawberry fruit on the palate. Guessed Pinot Noir, but wasn't too sure of its origin.

Quite a surprise when this was unveiled as a Loring. This reminded me a bit of the old LWCs under the composite rubber cork. This must certainly be a flawed bottle.

4th Saturday Group brown bagger (Mark & Rochelle's): Light red color. Notes of red fruit, spice, pepper and grapefruit with weedy/vegetal overtones; smells sour. Sour and overly acidic on the palate, with red fruit tones carrying through the finish. Dark fruit comes to the fore as it sits in the glass. There's some nice fruit underneath the citrus and weedy notes. Medium-bodied, with soft tannins and a medium(-) finish. I thought this was a Chilean Cab Sauv as they can often have the vegetal and grapefruit qualities.

4th Saturday Group brown bagger (Mark & Rochelle's): Opens with a dominant Band Aid aroma, with black fruit, leather and blackberry underneath. At times there was almost an Amarone-like ripeness to the fruit. Thin on the palate; flavors of dark fruit and plum turning quite acidic on the finish. There's a plastic quality on the palate as well. No guess on this one.

4th Saturday Group brown bagger (Mark & Rochelle's): Dark color. Notes of molasses, meat, roasted plum and dark fruit. Full-bodied but integrated tannins, with flavors of chemicals/plastic with dark fruit and meat underneath. Develops aromas of plastic and road tar with air. Guessed Syrah.

I was surprised this was ours. This was double decanted off its sediment a couple of hours before the flight was poured, and when it was opened, it smelled fantastic- meaty and spicy. I was very surprised about the plastic/chemical qualities that emerged. Too bad.

This had been double decanted off its sediment and back into bottle about two hours before the flight was poured. Drinking well now- I see no reason to continue to cellar this.

4th Saturday Group brown bagger (Mark & Rochelle's): Light ruby color; lightest wine of the first flight. Aromas of cherry, nutmeg, spice and ripe red berry fruit. Cinnamon, cherry and strawberry notes as it opens further in the glass. Medium-bodied with flavors of cherry and spice. Elegant and very well-balanced with a lengthy finish. Guessed Sonoma Coast pinot. 92-93+ pts.

I am very happy to have three of these, though also disappointed that I didn't purchase more. I'd give this a couple of years in the cellar and then enjoy over the following eight+.

Another wonderful wine that I have been fortunate enough to taste numerous times thanks to the generosity of R&D. Popped and poured along with the '90 Montrose. Every bit as good as the last time I had this, opening with aromas of black fruit and plum with those great scorched earth and iodine notes. Full-bodied and balanced, with softened tannins and flavors of black fruit, iron, tobacco and beef blood. Long and powerful through the finish. Develops notes of wet tobacco, herbs, and bay leaf along with the iodine and burning ember notes. Drink now through 2025+ if this bottle is representative. A great wine- thank you R&D.

My seventh or eighth experience with this wine, all courtesy of R&D, and one of the best. Deep crimson color with only the slightest bit of bricking at the meniscus. An initial aroma of dried hay faded away leaving black currants, dried plum, dusty earth, dried leaves/forest floor. Nicely integrated showing a mix of red and dark fruit and earth, but has a slight austerity. At the half hour mark, a lovely herbal, dried mint note emerged, but this really began to open and strut its stuff at the one hour mark. Notes of florals, black fruit, dried herbs and forest floor. Earthy black fruit, tobacco, leather and dried herbs on the palate. A lovely match for the rack of lamb with plenty of life ahead.
