Huge nose on this, black fruit, blueberry jam, vanilla bean, and strawberry coming through on the nose, with a touch of heat. Dense, inky on the palette, showing tobacco, blueberry, dark fruits, and some coffee bean on the long finish. Big, fruit forward, in your face wine. Very good. |

1/29/2011 - MattTM wrote: NRDinner at Seaquam's (Vancouver, BC): Popped and poured. Salmon/rose colour in the glass, this is definitely the darkest Riesling I have ever had. The nose is dominated by sulfur/burnt match stick, gunpowder, and peaches and cream. However, what a contrast once in the mouth. Sweet peach, dried apricot, and some lemon peel on the medium length finish. A bit effervescent on the palette. Was real enjoyable to get to experience this, as it's the oldest Riesling I've tasted. This is probably on it's downward trajectory at this point, as was mentioned by the owner of the bottle that this was most likely at it's peak 5 years ago, but was far from dead. Very nice. |

1/29/2011 - MattTM wrote: NRDinner at Seaquam's (Vancouver, BC): Opened and let breathe for 2 hours prior to tasting. Black fruit, cherry, cocoa, espresso, and some spice come through on the nose. On the palette, lots of chocolate notes coming through, as well as black cherry, anise, and black pepper. Long finish, that was a bit tart at the end, and medium acidity. Still young, no rush to drink these up. |

1/29/2011 - MattTM wrote: NRDinner at Seaquam's (Vancouver, BC): Decanted for 2 hours prior to tasting. Dark plum comes through strong on the nose, with a lot of heat and some spice. On the palette, black plum and dark cherry, as well as some anise. I was surprised how well this was drinking despite being so young. Chewy tannins, medium acidity, with a long finish. |

1/29/2011 - MattTM wrote: NRDinner at Seaquam's (Vancouver, BC): Opened and let breathe for approx 6 hours prior to tasting. First impression, very youthful on the nose, dominated by plum, as well as prune notes and some heat. Lots of black licorice coming through on the palette, as well as more plum, and some black pepper. I was surprised how young this is drinking, and although the fruit is on the softer side, and there is a lot of acid present, it had a great long finish and was very enjoyable. No rush to drink this up. |

1/29/2011 - MattTM wrote: NRDinner at Seaquam's (Vancouver, BC): If tasted blind, I would have pegged it as a Gewürztraminer. Sweet fresh lychee and pear dominate the nose. More ripe lychee on the palette, as well as some some nice citrus, and orange peel. A bit of oak comes through on the finish, with medium acidity. Nicely integrated, this is drinking well right now. |

On the palette, stewed red apple, pear, ginger, and some smokey hickory notes. Lower acidity on this, with a medium finish. This is drinking fantastic right now. A real treat, very good. |

Very fresh on the nose, with lots of pear and green apple coming through, as well as some yogurt yeasty-ness. A fine mousse on the palette, showing red apple, pear, and tart lemon juice, and ends with some lemon peel. Nice acidity that doesn't overpower the finish. Refreshing, a great start to the evening. |
