Golden yellow. Not much botrytis in the nose, exotic fruit (ripe mango, papaya), some honey and spicy notes as well. It pleases, but doesn't excite. On the palate, it's quite dense, a bit alcoholic, medium, slightly diffuse acidity, rather oily sweetness. Not 100% harmonic. This is one of the weaker Climens vintages, the neighbouring 97 and 99 are a lot better.

Pale golden yellow. In the nose, there are linden blossoms and camomile notes, some honey and lemon curd. Rather mild than spicy. On the palate, it's mild as well with a lot of camomile again, rather mild acidity, no alcoholic bite. Very harmonic, concise in its aromatics, not too sweet. A pleasure to drink.

Decanted for 3 hours. Dense cherry red. In the nose lots of leather, juniper berries, dark cherry. In the mouth, there's leather again, the tannins are still quite tight despite the longish decant, also the acidity is marked. Nonetheless, this is fine and transparent in nature. Slightly brittle tannins in the long finish. This is good, but it still seems quite young.

Medium cherry red. Very spicy in the nose, earthy, peppery, quite a lot of wood, but of the good kind. Fine fruit on its way to secondary aromas. Very fragrant and noble. In the mouth, this continues, this has good grip, it's dense, concentrated, deeply mineralic, but always flows in an understated way. A wonderful village Gevery that can still use some cellar time, but already drinks well now.

Medium yellow. A bit undefined in the nose, greenish-yellowish fruit, a bit wishy-washy, hard to asses. In the mouth, it's much better, creamy, dense, with harmonic acidity. It's much better with food, but never breathtaking. I was expecting this bottle to give more joy, actually.

Pale yellow with medium fine bubbles. In the nose it's creamy, saffron, some hay, pleasant, not easy to approach. On the palate, the perlage is a bit coarse, equally the acidity. It's fairly austere due to no dosage. Fairly short finish. Very good, but not outstanding.

Transparent in colour. Very finely woven in the nose. Red currant, raspberry, both as freshly shredded coulis with a bit of powdered sugar on top. Very direct and animating. In the mouth, it's also very direct, full of tension, but very harmonic at the same time, very fine as well, detailed. Long finish that is slightly tart. Grandiose, but still with potential.

Slightly cloudy cherry red. In the nose, this is very fine, slightly plummy, very spicy, stony, a bit of red currant here and there tickles the nose. In th mouth, this is very structured, transparent in its aromatic, fine fruit, fine spiciness, fine tannins. Very fine from front to end. Great wine.

Colour as the last bottle. Quite shut down in the nose, slightly powdery fruit, but not much more. Very edgy in the mouth, austere, clean tannin, fine acidity, but very monolithic. Wait.

Cloudy plum coloured. In the nose, there are hints of oxidation and volatile acidity, foul and musty fruit (rotten strawberry marmelade), mouse pee. Yuck. On the palate, there's rotten meat, dead rat, mild acidity, some hints of quality here and there, but overall this bottle was pretty disgusting. I still have a bottle of it and really hope that it will be better than this one.

Fairly transparent in the colour. Very spicy in the nose, plum and cherry. In the mouth, it's a bit edgy and green (typical for 2012), but also nicely juicy and tart in the finish. Rather to drink in the short than in the medium term.

Cherry red. In the nose, it's super fine and clear - cherry, cassis, a lot of detail. On the palate, it's nicely tart, cassis and cherry again, very fine acidity, transparent in its aromatics. Long and very consistent from start to finish. Not as deep as the first bottle, but excellent none the less.

Oldish colour. In the nose, this seems too old, there's a lot of lovage, coffee (old coffee), dried flowers, some Madeira. In the nose, it's fresher than in the nose, has quite a lot of tannin, a fine port-like sweetness, plum stone and is just very slightly bitter in the finish. Not too bad, but I guess it was better five to ten years ago.

Transparent rusty red. In the nose, this is really clear and transparent, just very slightly animalic, leathery, but also with nice fruit (cherry). In the mouth, this drinks like a white wine, there's hardly any tannin, fine acidity, clear fruit. It tickles the palate. Great wine, great to drink.

Medium yellow. Honeysuckle, lime-blossom, fennel, fresh tobacco in the nose, It has style. In the mouth, there's a lot of force and also a lot of wood that dries the mouth. It's quite compact, has medium acidity and a long and nice finish that is just a slight bit too much marked by the oak. This bottle seems a lot fresher than the last one.

Cloudy golden yellow. In the nose, this seems slightly oxidized with bruised old apple, honey, fresh wax. With air, this gets better, but always seems a bit old. In the mouth it's slightly sandy in texture, there's a hole in the middle and the finish is rather short. I had a fantastic bottle of this at the end of 2012, but this one was by far not as good.

Golden yellow. Very expressive in the nose with hardly any fruit, but more herbal notes, some hay, a bit of Williams Christ pear, bee's wax. In the mouth, this is pretty dense and direct, a lot of white tannin, bone dry, medium acidity. This has a lot of density and drinks almost like an Orange wine with the "white" tannins.

Medium yellow. Very Chenin like in the nose, a bit waxy, apple and quince, white flowers. In the mouth, the acidity sticks out a lot when the wine is drunk warmer and develops also some sweetish notes. It's much more elegant when drunk cooler, has better balance and expression. Good bottle, will likely improve.

Pop'n'Pour. Very denke cherry red. In the nose, this is breathtaking right out the gate. Unbelievably clear and precise quite ripe fruit - cherry and fresh plump - fine spick notes, a hing of oak. On the palate, it's denke, crystal clear, very pure, has very fine acditiy, again very clear fruit notes, it's silky, feels noble on the tongue. Very long. This is definitely in the top 5 best young Beaujolais Crus that I've drunk so far.

Full cherry red. In the nose, this is very direct, fragrant, it displays - for my taste - an almost perfectly integrated oak note, rippe cherry fruit, some blackberry. On the palate, this is very, very expressive, quite spicy, savory, quite fruity still and with a dense, almost creamy mouthfeel. Dynamic acidity in the finish. Excellent.

Almost 30 years of Bordeaux: Cloudy ruby red. In the nose, very light, there's some lovage, tangerine juice and orange zest. Wouldn't have thought that it's Bordeaux. On the palate, it's sweet, quite delicate with fine tannin, fine to strong acidity, rather red fruited and with dried flower notes as well. The finish is dominated by grapefruit notes. This is interesting, drinks well, but it's got more the charme of an old wine than of a great wine.

9/23/2014 - octopussy Does not like this wine: NR

Almost 30 years of Bordeaux: Dark red. In the nose, this is dense, opulent, but with clear fruit, cherry mainly. There are some toasty oak notes, but they're not dominating, there's dark chocolate as well. This is really heady. On the palate, it's lighter than in the nose, there's a hole in the middle, and it's quite angular around the middle. It seems slightly awkward right now. The tannins are quite robust for Pomerol, there are bitter notes in the concentrated finish, in which blackberry liqueur notes come through as well. Who knows how this wine will turn out? I won't take the risk.

2009 Château Saint-Pierre

St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend more

9/23/2014 - octopussy Does not like this wine: NR

Almost 30 years of Bordeaux: Very dense, dark red. In the nose, there are copious amounts of oak, cold, hard, repellent oak. The nose is really dominated by oak. In addition, there's some vanilla, Kirsch liqueur. It seems very modern, a bit thin right now, too. Not inviting at all. On the palate, it's equally oaky, it has a really deep hole in the middle, it's hard and repellent again. Kirsch Schnaps, tar and cold ash as well as really strong bitter notes dominate the finish. This wine is terrible right now, but I believe that it's just closed down heavily. I don't have it in my cellar and I won't buy it, but this should turn out much better than it is right now.

2005 Château d'Armailhac

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more

9/23/2014 - octopussy Likes this wine: NR

Almost 30 years of Bordeaux: Clear Bordeaux-Red. In the nose, it seems super young, a bit lactic at first (blackberry yoghurt) and rather modern. With more air, it shows more nuanced, the young, tart fruit stays, there's cassis, blackberry and black cherry, lighter (raspberry) overtones. On the palate, the wine is compact, has strong, but fine tannin, fine acidity, it's very dark overall, has good balance, but seems super young and underdeveloped. Good length, but dark and brooding and unfinished. This is hard to assess now, but has the potential to be great in 10 years time.
