I can't deny the balance of power and finesse in this bottle. Everyone enjoyed it and it went incredibly well with all types of salads and seafoods. Upside from here.

My note from 2/16/2015 = "Super concentrated and sappy with stewed raspberry and strawberry with cloves and brown sugar. Three + years of age will do this a world of good." - Well, 6 months has served this wine well. Opened 2 hours before dinner, the classic Pinot fruit and mineral characters really shine. There's a real sense of place in Felton Road's Pinots and I think that's why they've had such a strong following for so long. They aren't just new world wines once you get past the sappy and concentrated phase. Lots of upside here.

I like PSTICE's descrption of rock hard and ferrous. I would also add that it's still slightly rustic. This is in an awkward phase at the moment but I think it has balance to go another 10 years as the wine was significantly better after 3+ hours of air. Plenty of fruit and spice from this syrah, especially given that I was drinking it along side a McLaren Vale shiraz. I'm just really pleased to have gotten my hands on half a case...

I can see why some have compared this to Napa and Sonoma Cabs. The silky mouthfeel is really remarkable. Black currant and chocolate drive the mid palate with a finish of dark berries and leather. The only thing keeping this from getting a silly score is a slight lack of grip and acidity. I wouldn't say its flabby I just think if it had a tad more focus on the finish we'd be talking 92-93 points all day long.

Absolutely stunning as always. Opened 4 hours before dinner, the best glass was the last. I reckon it will continue to evolve over the next 3 to 5 years but why chance it.

Edit: I just realized my scores are 4 years apart. Really impressive given that the wine has evolved a lot.

Solid but unremarkable. Sort of plays its part really well but there's nothing there to set it apart. Not a great QPR.

bound4er has it dead on though instead of more fruit, I would like slightly more vineyard character. A little tobacco or leather nuance would get this wine closer to an 89. If it was $8 I would say back up the truck and have your mid-week wine sorted for the next 2 years, especially given the worry free stelvin closure. At $12 I would say it delivers exactly what you want for a $12 wine, which is actually saying a lot since I think most wines don't deliver relative to their price point.

Reminds me of a Sonoma style Cab with plums, tobacco, and mint dominating. Maybe a bit too much alcohol and oak on day one but it did improve overnight. Over delivers for the price.

1/22/2015 - Grill Factor Likes this wine: 87 points

If I had this wine blind I would guess this is a Malbec from Cahors. The nose and the initial palate are very French in style with soil, green veggies, followed by a kick of fruit punch. With a few hours of air it becomes increasingly herbal and floral. I could see it being off-putting for some. On day two I got a lot of violet and cedar box. It was at its best within an hour of being open so I'd say this is a good summer barbecue wine.

Needs food to be enjoyable. Mostly sour cherry notes with a touch of tobacco and vanilla oak. Finish is tight. Well made but perhaps it was a bad year for the wine?

As enjoyable a food wine as I have had in a while. This has gotten better and more interesting over the last couple of years. Red fruits have evolved into darker fruits with plums and rose petals. High quality wine. I found more at $10/ bottle and lifted a case to drink over the next 2 years.

Still young, this is an interesting wine that I think will improve over the next 3 to 5 years. The wine showed quite a bit of evolution over a 2 hour period, starting out quite tannic but evolving with air to savoury cloves with red fruits and a really impressive delicate mouthfeel. As it opens up it becomes darker and more intense. Impressive and interesting.

Rock solid Bordeaux that offers significant value if you bought it upon release sub $30. Plenty of earthy tobacco and green pepper paired with dark fruits and cherry on the finish. Wish I bought more.

User ECOLA has it right. I don't know enough about Chablis to know if this is a traditional style or not. It was a crowd pleaser with everyone enjoying the hint of sweetness and long finish. It definitely has a weight to it that is far from delicate but you can't really argue with the delicious factor. A significant value under $30.

Holding up ok under Screwcap. Personally, I would prefer the old world producers to bottle their expensive offerings under Stelvin and leave the village level cheaper wines under cork. Just my perspective. The wine was fresh and gamy and it held up for 2 days. I can't say that about a '08 CdP I had last week, which was oxidized.

My two most recent bottles have been oxidized. Cork soaked almost all the way through. These were sent straight from the bottle shop to a cellar so I can't fault the storage. Disappointing, as the wine was once magnificent.

"Avid Wino" has this pegged. I'd say it's just starting to shine. Begs for food, not a summer sipper for the porch. I may wait to see if the alcohol calms down a bit. If it does, it's a 95 all day long.

Just starting to get into its drinking window. Dark fruits, raisin, tar, tobacco matched with some chewy tannins. If this was a sagrantino or a super tuscan it would be 5 times as much $$. Great value.
