2008 Loma Prieta Wines Merlot

Santa Cruz Mountains more

This is probably the most interesting and satisfying wine I've had from Loma Prieta. This is surprisingly dense and jam-packed. The color is almost black, the nose is incredibly floral, on the palate there is an abundance of thick, black fruit. The concentration is pretty huge. This is so impressive for its power and attractiveness.

Much better on the 2nd day; takes on more depth and richness. Not as complex or engaging as some brunellos I've had. This is a more simple, fruity style.

Full-bodied, thick, concentrated dark fruit. This is one of the best '12 cabs I've had - so decadent, so much coffee and dark chocolate notes. Showing well already but amazing to think it will get better.

2010 Cerbaiona (Molinari) Rosso di Montalcino

Sangiovese more

7/24/2015 - Anonymous wrote: 93 points

Possibly the best rosso I've had, this is compact and striking at first, but opens up to lovely fruit after a while. A bit limited and one-dimensional compared to some good brunellos from this vintage, but it's such an impressive rosso nonetheless. Probably not worth the $50 I paid for it, but exciting to try all the same.

Slightly vegetal on the nose right out of the bottle, but on the palate this is delicate and caressing with some nice dark fruit. This is so soft and subtle. After a half hour or so the wine takes on a more caramel note which is a new welcome dimension. This was such a treat, similar to the few previous bottles I had. Drink now.

This was dreamy stuff - has great lift, a slight zestiness, some backbone and a rich and expansive taste profile delineating a range of fruit and floral notes. I really liked this - captivating and exciting.

At first this is quite austere and thin, but after some decanting some charm develops. This is nicer on the nose than the palate. Better vintages of this really show so much better than this. Not a wine I'd seek out but if the price is right it could be useful. This is likely on the decline or at least won't be improving with more age. 89 - 90pts.

This wine seems a bit lightweight at first, but becomes more composed after a half hour or so. Light to medium-bodied, very attractive, just a hint of spice, lush.

This was exquisite right out of the bottle. Beautiful creme de casis and masses of dark fruit. I've had other vintages of this that were uninspired, but this vintage is excellent. Has a lot more life too, but showing well already.

Better than the one I had this time last year. This is more complete, racy and inviting. You can really taste the terroir here; so much leather, burned/toasty notes. This has so much charm. 92+ pts.
