Pale gold. Assertive but cut nose with prominent minerals and stones, peaches, peach pits, honeysuckle and pollen, some subtle spices. Very nice. The palate isn't as good as the nose - good cut, but it's bitter - heavy on backbone and not enough flavor - it enters with nice minerality, and then the peaches come in. In the mid-palate, the bitter peach pit dominates and a brothy saline aspect comes in - buzzing and a little baroque. Quite acidic with some citric burn. The finish is bitter pits and citric burn. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 4/6, Finish - 3.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 0.5/2 = 13/20.

Open 24 hrs. This is bigger than I expected. Am I drinking it too young, or is it just too big? Agressive primary nose of blue fruits, dark cherry, black raspberry, blackberry - really juicy and alive, almost citric, some spice, some earth, very brambly. A touch of heat shows up now and again. Better on the palate, showing the primary fruit, citric aspect, earth and spice, but the midpalate shows like a more balanced pinot. A bit of structure, good acid, framing everything and keeping it in place. The finish is even more restrained - with earth, spice and brambles. Not bad. Maybe this will be quite good in 5-10 years. Hard for me to say. Nose - 4/6, Palate - 4.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 14.5/20.

Open since yesterday. It didn't show too well then, since the 04 Prum WS Spat smacked it and made it run home to Momma. Better tonight. Spicy nose with cumin, brown spices, minerals, some soft lime, honey, red apple. Palate is gentle. Enters light with lime, minerals. Verging on crisp. There seems to be some sneaky acid humming underneath - not electric or anything, but it is there - not quite integrated. More lime, some honeysuckle and spices come out towards the end into a small but well cut lime and mineral finish. This is, as Salil said, an elegant rendition of Spatlese. Nose - 4.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 15.5/20.

Look, this shit was on fire tonight. Crisp and clear nose of that cumin sponti (Z says burnt), lime, and sizzling minerality. The palate is even better - just dead on: lime, minerals, lemon, maybe a touch of grapefruit. It's really the texture that gets you - the acid/sugar balance is pinpoint - so light, like a cloud, but full of flavor. I could drink cases of this. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17/20

Nose of dark fruits (Blackberry, Dark cherry), an herbal component, and some minerality. The palate enters with a similar profile, but towards the end, the wine brightens, focuses and shows a real purity. Here, and in the finish we see beautiful red-blue fruits with a real crunch, along with that herbal aspect and excellent minerality. Z mentioned the training of the winemaker in Bojo, along with the 100+ year-old vines, and you can really see that in the end palate and finish. Great stuff. Nose - 4.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1-1.5/2 = 16-16.5/20

Off the list at Xixa. Light orange-gold. The nose is gentle and pretty much mature: apricots, orange, lime, red apple, some baking spices and cinnamon. The palate is similar in flavor profile and excellent: apricots, red apple, some citrus: orange, lime and maybe something else. Really classy - the palate is is a perfect place right now: mature, clear, crisp, with good flavors, but light and airy. Good acid backbone holds everything together well. Finish is apricots, spices and some minerals. A treat. Nose - 4.5-5/6, Palate - 5-5.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1-1.5/2 = 15.5-17/20.

AP #6. Showed darker than I expected/hoped when poured. The nose is very ripe and quite mature - baked apples and pears, some sweet spices, and a hint of honey and caramel. The palate is similar - baked fruit flavors, maybe a bit of apricot, honey, caramel, and herbs. Maybe some acid, structure starting to emerge towards the end - we will see how it develops as I have some left. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 4.5-5/6, Finish - 4.5-5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 15-16/20.

Salil's bottle. The nose is light, clear, mature and perfumed: beautiful golden and red apples, cinnamon - classic apple pie, other spices, a hint of citrus, some herbal and maybe mint. The palate is something else - simply heartbreaking Riesling. This is not rich or heavy Riesling, this is quiet, transcendent, everything-in-its-proper-place Riesling. Flavors of apples and cinnamon, spices and herbs/mint like the nose, but there is something more - the acidity is there, something citric and fruit, but like no fruit I have ever had - maybe something like grapefruit and peach combined. The finish is more of the same, maybe the 1994 acid, so on it's own in many other 1994's, is starting to stick out a bit, but just a bit. Phenomenal. Thanks Salil. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 6/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5-2/2 = 18.5-19/20.

Beautiful nose - crisp and golden: toast, bread, ginger, spicy, some apple/pear a touch of sharp lemon, stony minerality. the palate is austere, but similar to the nose: lots of toast and bread, ginger, green apple, minerals, some lemon. This is high acid, and somewhat wicked - but I really like it. Maybe it's cause I haven't had a bottle of wine in like 3 weeks? Maybe it's just good. Toasty, lemon and mineral finish. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 16/20.

Starts out with something odd on the nose - yeast, bread, musty, a little bit of wet cardboard? A tiny touch corked? Hard to tell, but if so, just a bit. Some creamy fruit - banana, golden apple and bit of peach. Sweet&sour. Some brown spice, honey. Very plush on the palate, feels thick and maybe a bit glyercal - fuzzy. Honey. As always with the 08's, there seems to more weight and less acid to me. The finish is good and more zingy than the rest, with the tropicals and peach, some lime, spices and sweet&sour. Nose - 4.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5-5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1-1.5/2 = 15.5-16.5/20.

Same bottle as 4/30/15. There was maybe 1.5-2 glasses of this left in the bottle, sitting in the fridge. Just decided to try it to clear out some space. Little did I know that the wine would be better than when opened. The nose is light and crystalline - lime, flint, metal, white flowers. The palate has lost a little oompf, but it is so clear and pure: lime, spice, flint, slate, metal, white florals. $17 a bottle and it is better 4 weeks later - how often does that happen? Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17.5/20.

PnP. Wonderful perfumed nose of bright, pure red fruit - light strawberry, raspberry, along with a minerals and stones. The palate is similar - bright red fruits and minerals, fine tannins - quite tart. The finish is pretty austere at this point with tart fruit and minerals. It probably would have opened up a bit if we had given it an hour or two. Good QPR. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 4.5+/6, Finish - 4+/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 14.5+/20 (with 15.5/20 potential.)

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion - New York NY): Wow! Nose of bright red berry fruit - raspberry, strawberry, juicy citrus. This is perfumed without weight. Wonderful minerality, very alive and complex. Spice. Superb on the palate with sappy fruit, red-blue, iron, minerals, spice. Grippy good acid.
