Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more

Impressive nose. When it comes to palate, this is now showing signs of fatigue. At end of, or just past, drinking window. Sour cherry. Tertiary notes developed. A little hollow on mid-palate. I had a 1966 bottle which was solid and full-bodied. Not 1970. Drink up.

This is some serious Tempranillo. Barnyard nose blew off after 30 minutes of air exposure. Very balanced, focused, and robust...covering palate with dense layers of dark fruits, so chewy I can have it as a meal. Tannins softening at age of 14. No heat. A little oak which should integrate as the wine continues to age. Drink now (aerate for at least a couple of hours) or hold in cellar. I won't be surprised if in few years some wine critic calls it a rock star!

Wide range of input. James Suckling 100, Parker 94, and Tanzer 93. Decided to pull a bottle out of cellar and give it a try. New world fans, this is intriguing but not what you might hope for. Old world wine drinkers: stick around for a minute.

Very slow to release aromatics. At hour # 4 in decanter, the magic starts. A profound nose of berries, molasses, roast meat and a green hint of something, may be asparagus? Big and bold, robust body, with noticeable but fine grainy tannins. Plum, black tea, dark fruit, macerated berries. High acid - parotid gland squeezer! Finish is long...very long.

I am not sure how this will develop in the near future, but it has a long life ahead of it. Suckling scored it 100 which I believe based on potential. Bob Parker did not get this one right. Holding on to the only remaining bottle to try again 2020. I wish I had more.

Almost 30 years old and still vibrant, fresh, and tannic. A complex nose of tobacco, forest soil, berries and mineral. Bold and chewy, packed with black fruit and ripe cherries.
If trying a bottle soon, slow ox then 1-hour decant for more enjoyment.

Well-integrated, fabulous complexity. Nose of tar, pine needles and roses. Then come flavors of bitter chocolate, tar, and sweet red fruits. One of the better Baroli we have tasted. Interestingly, we can find not a single tasting note from any critic about this '71 vintage.

Decanted 30 min consumed over 90 min dinner. Nose impressive. Sweet aroma of black fruit, cedar. Lots of fruit on palate packed with berries, molasses, sweet cherries but no tertiary notes for someone who also enjoys old world wines. I did not appreciate depth and balance which Bob Parker described in his 99-pt tasting note. But hey, I am no Parker, and obviously others liked it more than I did. Medium finish. A bit of Alc heat. Not sure whether will continue to age more and pick up more depth and balance.

Brick color. Berries, mint, tar and floral aromas. Wine saturates palate with dense chewy fine tannins. Long finish. Judging by its solid core of fruit and tannins, this has many more years to age. Will try again after 2020.

First of all, tasting notes are merely for "taste" not for $. However, I felt compelled to say this wine is a major pass for me - at current price sticker and release price.
Nose much better after 4 hours decant time (per host, I was not there when wine was first popped). Powerful, profound black fruits, cedar, vanilla. Tannic. Needs many years to integrate, at least 10!

James Laube gave this wine a score of 87 in 2002. Well, 12 years out, we could say either some sort of bottle variation exists, or this wine simply aged better than expected. Much less oak. Nose and palate of old Rhone style wine, unusual for california fruit-forward cab. Minerality, pepper, iron, wild red and black berries. Medium plus finish.

A nose of blackberry and graphite. Palate is covered with light-citrus sour cherries. Wild berries, cedar, beef blood, forrest soil and a tiny tertiary green note. Acidity and fine grainy tannins - this has not hit its peak at an age of 32. A Pauillac juice that is at the same level of many first growth Bordeaux wines.

Wine Spectator 96 ! I suspect this is based on future potential and age-ability. Pulled 5 oz through Coravin. All components for a nice Pinot is there. Concentrated, tons of fruit but not OTT, and wonderful aroma. There is some tannins and a little etoh bite at the end. A couple more years and all that should integrate well. Bottle back to cellar (thanks to Coravin).

I bought this bottle from an auction house so I was holding my breath - god knows what type of storage condition this bottle had been in. Well, I received it in mint condition labelled "acquired from a private cellar". I was curious to find out what an old Verite would taste like. Nose of macerated berries, some tobacco. Tons of pleasure in mouth. Yet, if Dominus comes an inch close to old world, this one stays a mile away. A nice effort from winemaker. Ready to drink.

7/16/2014 - Old Vino Likes this wine: 95 points

I have given 95 for new world wine only on few occasions. This bottle sure deserves it. There is a plenty of enjoyment the minute you pop and decant. Then comes a smell of wild berries and flowers everywhere within 3 feet! Big and bold but not OTT fruit bomb. Dark berries, smoke, cocoa and molasses. Only fear is whether this california cab will hold it together for 20+ years. Dunn, Montelena, Mayacams, and few other Napa vintages had longer lives, but they appear to be a minority of california wines. High Alc in this particular 07 Materium and already-mellowed tannins might affect its longevity.
