The 25 years old vines yield 42 hectoliter per hectare in 2012. The wine is raised for 8 months in for 1/3 in new oak barrels and for 2/3 in inox. The result is a wine with a flawless and elegant bouquet with white fruits, litchi, flowers cardamom and fennel. On the palate a very clean wine as well with white fruits, litchi and some grasses. Concentrated but not thick, rather delicate and elegant. A harmonious and refined wine. Drink between now and 2017. 91+

The bouquet is still a bit lactic with dark and red berries and cherries, some spiciness, minerals, laurel and a bit rustic/barnyard smells which blow off. On the palate juicy sweet red and dark berry fruits and cherries. Some spiciness like pepper and minerals. Good acidity and slightly sticky tannin. Still a bit too young. Wait at least until 2018. 91+

The beautiful bouquet is still a bit locked, but shows very ripe dark berries, blood, dark chocolate and salty licorice. On the palate juicy, mainly dark berry fruits, beautiful herbs and spices, some chocolate, beautiful acidity and in a wonderful balance with the sweetness. Round, but still firm tannin. A beautiful and harmonious wine which is still firm and although really nice already, will improve with a few more years of ageing. Drink between 2017 and 2022+ is probably a good suggestion. 92 – 93+

Beautiful bouquet with still youthful fruits like cherries, red berries, minerals, pepper, some bell pepper, garrigue, smoke and a touch of barnyard which blows off. On the palate ripe red and dark berries and cherries, some flint stone minerals, firm acidity and slightly sticky tannin. The wine improved considerably with some more air time. Overall a beautiful, still fruity, harmonious wine which, although mature, is still quite youthful. Drink between 2016 and 2021 is probably a good guess.

Very ripe dark cherries in the bouquet, some earth and vanilla as well. On the palate ripe dark and red berries, some spiciness, pepper, jammy, medium acidity and soft tannin. Easy going. The wine showed much better than last year, but still is a bit simple and boring.

In the bouquet ripe red and dark forest fruits, some herbs and spices and coffee and laurel as well. Same on the palate; juicy fruits, good spiciness, some sweetness but also good acidity and soft tannin. A lovely and open wine which is completely ready now. Today’s bottle really showed nice. Drink over the next two years.

Spicy bouquet with some rose hips, bacon and tobacco. On the palate juicy red and dark berry fruits, some garrigue, beautiful fresh acidity and soft tannin. Lovely wine. Don’t know the history of this bottle, but if it is exemplary, it is probably wise to drink this wine before 2018.

In the bouquet rust, plums, chocolate, sweet spices, some smoke and tobacco. On the palate a lof of chocolate, sweet spices and some rose hips. Mild acidity and complexly melted tannin. This bottle was still just ok and on the brink of becoming too old. Drink it this year if you have any left!

Red with a carmine rim. In the bouquet a classical Bordeaux bouquet with cassis, other dark forest fruits, vanilla, sweet spiciness and beautiful oak. On the palate dark and red berries, just a touch of bell pepper, well dosed oak, beautiful acidity and still sticky, slightly drying tannin. There was a leftover of 1/3 bottle which I put in the cooler and drank the next day at room temperature. The second day it even showed more of its luxury. Great effort for 2002! Beautiful wine. Pnp still a bit too young. The second day perfectly ready. It should be no problem to cellar this wine until 2020. 90 - 92 for this time. One more bottle to go… ;-)

Not really clear red color with some garnet in the rim. In the bouquet at first red fruits like cherries and raspberries, but with more air time a lot of sweet spices and vanilla from the oak appeared. Same impressions on the palate. Some dark fruits as well and a lot of vanilla. Good and mild acidity as well as tannin. The wine is ready now and has a future of a few more years, but will not significantly improve. For what I paid (less than $15) this is a very good qpr wine.

Red color still with a slightly garnet rim. In the bouquet still cherries, some herbs and earth. On the palate cherries and red berries, a firm amount of good acidity, some noticeable bitterness and still slightly sticky and drying tannin in the finish. Really nice wine, ready now, but also still a few years of future ahead.

No formal notes. After party wine of a fantastic evening! Red fruits, good garrigue and some pleasant barnyard. Not extremely concentrated, but still youthful with good acidity and friendly tannin. My blind guess that it was a 2004 was correct. Beautiful and elegant C9duP.

Let there be no mistake about it; Rieussec 1999 is a great wine! Beautifully rich with botrytis, apricots, orange peel, honey, marzipan and even some crustacean. Beautiful balance between sweetness and acidity and very rich and full bodied. A great wine now and this will be a treat until well into the 2020’s (if you like your Sauternes with some age on it.)

Ready now and the next 5+ years.

Beautiful and very youthful bouquet with creamy dark forest fruits. Same on the palate; juicy dark fruits, beautiful fresh acidity, round but firm tannin with still a good bite and good bitterness in the finish. This wine is in its adolescent stage and will improve with more ageing. If I had any I would probably wait at least until 2020. 93+ for tonight.

Dark fruits, herbs and spices and some barnyard in the bouquet. On the palate a sweet start of ripe fruits, good (sweet) spiciness and soft acidity. The tannin is also soft and round, but still firm and youthful. Holds the middle between modern made and elegance. Really well made wine that might improve a bit with some more ageing. Until 2020 should be no problem. 91+

Beautiful bouquet with cherries, sweet spiciness and beautifully dosed luxurious oak. On the palate quite mature with sweet spices, chocolate, mild acidity and soft tannin. Still an excellent wine, but not as impressive as the one I drank in 2011. In a few days I will open a bottle myself to see how that performs.

Rustic bouquet with sweet spices, blood, minerals like iron and earthy flavors. On the palate firm acidity, minerals, celery and drying tannin. Although I could still appreciate it, most of the group thought this bottle was too old. No score.

Beautiful and mature bouquet with still some cassis and a good dose of barnyard. On the palate a mature wine with chocolate, soft acidity and also soft, somewhat drying tannin. Quite mature and several in the group were not that much impressed, but I still could appreciate the wine for its luxury components and elegance. We probably had a bottle that hasn't been stored properly, but I nevertheless scored it 92. Leaving me wonder what a perfect bottle would score.

A pure coincidence; two blind tastings this week and two times Montrose 1998. This bottle; beautiful bouquet with cassis, beautiful oak, cedar and a touch of pleasant barnyard. On the palate the same luxury. Dark forest fruits, beautiful acidity and round tannin with still a good bite. Much more fresh and youthful than the bottle I had earlier this week and more in line with my tasting note from 2013. This bottle came from a different cellar than my previous two notes, but considering the two bottles of this week, there is bottle variance. Scored the wine of tonight 93 with still a future until at least 2020.
