6/18/2007 - Rayburn wrote: 90 pointsDecanted about 2 hours prior to tasting. Color is deep, dark purple. Nose is very fruity with loads of currant and cassis. Plenty of oak. The palate is quite tannic at this stage in typical Napa fashion with cassis, blackberry, currant, leather and black cherry. Finish is medium long. While quite primary at this point, I believe it will develop well. Just give it some time in the cellar. Better than the first bottle I had. |

5/10/2007 - Rayburn wrote: 89 pointsA blend of Cabernet and Syrah that was decanted for up to 2 hours. Opens with a nose of raw red meat coated with dark cherry, leather and spice. Palate evolved over the night releasing smoke, red cherry, currant and some mild blackberry. Tannin is restrained, although was heavy at first. For a measley $18, damn fine wine. Well Done. BTW loved the label as well. |

2005 Carlisle Zinfandel Sonoma Countymore |
4/26/2007 - Rayburn wrote: 90 pointsMy first Carlisle and I wasn't disappointed. Showed well with some air (about 45 min). Deep dark fruits on the nose with blackberry and a touch of black cherry. On the palate I picked up some of the bramble that others say they missed along with some more blackberry, blueberry and spice. Finish is medium with snappy tannin. Let the others rest for a while, but it's yummy now. |

Palate is full bodied with raspberry, red cherry up front joined by some mild black fruit in the mid-palate with well integrated tannins. The finish is at least 45 seconds. Very nice and will let the other get some age. |

4/3/2007 - Rayburn wrote: 95 pointsWhat an impressive wine! Decanted for about 45 minutes. Nose opens to lush, fragrant cassis, eucalyptus, currant and black cherry. Palate is full of the same with mild leather and a touch of vanilla. Mid-palate has soft, fine, well-integrated tannin. Finish is lingering with a mild touch of sweet blackberry. This wine is singing, but has many years ahead of it. Buy and enjoy. |

3/12/2007 - Rayburn wrote: 92 pointsAfter reading Jay's notes on the new vintage I had to bust this out. Color is deep, deep purple. Nose is chockablock of black fruits, blackberry jam and a hint of dry mustard and black licorice. The oak is still living large as well. Palate is really juicy with more blackberry, cassis, vanilla and licorice. Some black cherry and red raspberry is hiding in there too. Mid-palate is thinner than I would have expected, but the tannins are fine grained. As it warmed it became fuller and bigger in all aspects. Will be even better in another year or so. Wish I had more. 91-92 pts |
